TGIF July 17 2009....one week to go!!

Happy Friday everyone!

One week from today we move! Am I ready?? Well not exactly.

I am ready but the fam is another story.

Still waiting for the kids to start packing....the lower level is not packed and the car (76 camaro DH bought some 20 years ago that has been in the garage) has not been moved.

I figure I will stop cooking on Sunday and pack uo the last few things I left out to maintain a usable kitchen. After that I will rely on frozen grub and take out.

Today I have to take Drew over to the new city and sign him up for school...I also want him to check out the Acme over there (he works at the acme here with me but he can transfer to a new store without losing anything-I on the other hand will lose seniority and pay) to see if its a place he would like to work.

I will of course swing by the house to see if they moved the fridge out yet as well as the debris in the garage.

Later I am going out to dinner with SIL.

I am working the weekend but in my spare time I will be out looking at cars for Amy. She and Frank want her to have an SUV. Truth be told its really a good time to buy a used car as there is a lot out there to chose from...hopefully we can get her into something she likes this weekend!!

All in all I "think" its all going to start coming together and by this time next week we'll have already started to sign our names oh about a bazillion times!!

I raise my glass of water to you all for listening and helping me thru this whole ordeal...CHEERS!!!

good luck on everything, susie.

Here I have the farm and the same old stuff. I'll get some fresh lettuce out of the garden for salads and the ducks have grown about 4 times their original size.

Elery and I will do "something" tomorrow, but I don't know what. He keeps asking me what I want to do and I keep explaining that when he's not here I don't "do" anything except housework and the farm, LOL. He needs to be entertained, I guess....

Happy Friday!

I am going camping this weekend, we are having a welcome cool spell for this time of year and it was in the 60s this morning and I think the high will be upper 80s or low 90s for the next couple of days. The husband does not want to go and neither does my brother in law so I will just be me my sister and 2 year old nephew. This will be his first camping trip so it should be a blast.

Been a few days since I bored y'all. Donna glad to hear about the rain. My ideas on hay must be whacho. I see grass hay that was cut and bailed since last friday. Seems overdue to me as I can walk through my patch and see the seeds falling. Been a long time since we made hay when I was a kid but I thought the right time was shortly after bloom and definitely before the seed heads were shattering. Garden. Mine consists (or did) of two tomato plants plus one in a pot on the patio. Went out to weed the two in garden and found weeds buried in dirt. Hmmm? What happened that there is no more 'dish' for water around them?? A little scraping and found a mole or more likely a gopher had surfaced in both places. Rebuilt the basins and watered but don't have much hope they'll survive. Must have been a busy little bugger as every step I took around there was collapsing another tunnel. Starting around on the watering again. Got the front done last night. On to the N end of the back tonight. Senior moment yesterday. Hit dental appoint and on way back was stopped by the jail captain. He wanted to borrow my PU to haul some brush. I told him I would pick it up as I was going wooding again today. He noticed the 'punk' willow I had on the truck and I told him I was on the way to deliver it to the patrol sergeant for tanning purposes and also to borrow their ladder. He suggested I borrow his instead. Good idea as it will save me a 20 mile drive to return it. Delivered the 'punk'. Back to town and loaded the brush as captain's. Only needed to load the ladder from the garage that was right there. Did I? Must not have as it wasn't on the PU when I got home. Somewhat good day in the woodpatch. Out of bed, loaded and gone by 6:30 with a lunch. More clearance of stuff in my way to get to the down log. Not a lot but it did cost me about an hour. At last got to actually cut some good wood after 3 trips. Cut a batch, load, cut some more, split now and load again. Go to cut some more and the Stihl MS310 won't come out of choke. Quick inspection and managed to get it freed up. Back to cutting but when I went to shut down the saw wouldn't go to OFF. Finally died. More inspection.. nope, my eyes don't see all those small thingy bobies anymore so it is off to the dealer in the morning with it. I had had enough sweating by then anyhow and had 3/4 of a load so quit. Home by 12. Still have about 8' of a very solid 24" log for my next trip plus a big snag that -may- have good wood in it plus another good size tree that should be good. All right where I have been working so only minimal clearance getting to them. re: all the wood in town I was hoping for. Looks like that is no-go. The town park has some over-age trees coming out (a few) that I will probably get (maple) but all the locust (big and old) no. They are removing them due to 'locust borer' and are only permitted to burn the entire lot - over 30 trees. What a waste! Did volunteer to help with cutting them up. Harry K

Hi Everyone! I've been MIA. My laptop died, got another one and managed to spill and entire cup of fresh coffee all over it, soaking the keyboard....talk about getting depressed. Really could not afford the laptop to begin with but hubby said it's our only real form of entertainment and he insisted. We don't have cable or satellite or antenna out here. I wanted to use an older laptop of his but apparently it's dying too. He's working on removing all data now before it shuts down for the last time. I left the laptop to dry for a couple of days....fired it up and the keyboard still did not work. Major depressive. So I hooked up a keyboard. I did not feel like talking much because the laptop was the icing on our financial cake...we're fine at the moment but still watching our pennies. It just got to us. Dave was even looking to spend a further $200 to get/replace the keyboard. I said no. I'll use the keyboard. Today I tried the laptop keyboard and it is working completely fine. It apparently needed more time to dry out. Thank you Toshiba for continuing to build better and better laptops! So I'm back. Emotionally it's been a rough week but I'm snapping out of it now. Dave just installed our first piece of kitchen yesterday - the sink unit with 3 drawers on the side. It's beautiful. 6 ft long with the second piece to be built as a mirrored image on the other side of the stove. First he's taking a break from cabinet making to make some storage shelves for his shop. It desperately needs to get stuff off the floor properly and room to sort his small stuff better. Safer working environment. It's late and I'll be off to bed in a few minutes. Tonight I watched Joan Crawford's 1945 Mildred Pierce online. WOW - what a great girly movie. I love black and white movies. She was fabulous in this movie. We're hitting a 5 day run of hot weather (by my standards) - 86F or 30C. Tomorrow morning I'll be watering my gardens and again in the evening. I don't care to lose my started tomatoes and peppers that are finally appearing. Socially this week has been very good. Finally got to spend decent time with our neighbour/friends across the road. They had us over a few times last summer/fall for proper dinners when we were living in the trailer. I was able to do something nice for Gail - I made her bedroom curtains which she loves. I was pretty pleased the way they turned out considering we went to a major charity shop and got a beautiful large silky looking table cloth in a purple/burgundy and a lavender/gray heavy curtain for the backing to add weight and keep the light out at night. We also had great girly time and got together here for a card night. Much needed. Very much needed. I'm back - I'm sure BJ will be back soon too! Still maintaining my weight, drinking water or heavily watered down ginger ale. I'm not nuts on pop, just bored with water sometimes. I only use part of a can. The rest goes back in the fridge for another day. Sweet dreams everyone - will be in touch tomorrow! LOL Peggy

sharon, you definitely got a keeper with that one! Chase, have a great week and relax about that trip. Everything will happen anyway, it'll be fine. Nancy, have some fun, don't just clean. Diane, 18 grand kids? Wow, I have my hands full with two of them, LOL. I'll be keeping that Marine of yours in my prayers, that he comes back safe and sound and that DIL's pregnancy goes well and uneventfully. Here? I'm fixing fence. Again. Elery and I fixed fence on Saturday, again on Monday. Horses need to be groomed, post holes need to be dug, manure....um....fertilizer needs to be spread on the garden and tilled in. Pens need to be cleaned and my yard needs raking and, well, it's spring. 65 and sunny tomorrow, so I'll work outside all day. 50 and rain on Sunday, so I'll bake a coffee cake and start some cinnamon rolls, Administrative Professional's Day is Wednesday, I'm taking breakfast for my office staff on Tuesday morning because Wednesday Elery and I are going to visit his Dad and stepmom in Ohio. She's back in the hospital, she's never really recovered from that heart surgery last year. I feel horrible for his Dad, Elery's Mom died three years ago, his Dad married Francis and now she's so ill. Sigh. Anyway, TGIF, I have lots to do this weekend and only two weeks until we meet Chase in Grand Rapids for supper! Hooray!! Annie

Lots of fun stuff goin on this weekend for the GW gang! Well except for Linda but I am sure she'll put a good spin on it all and come out smiling!! I took a day off from interveiwing fance and cement guys whew...I need it....turning the cell off too!! I think we pretty much made up our minds anyhow. I have to work tonight...as a checker-something I don't do very often and to top things off, I fell coming onto the house last night and hurt my left foot...OUCH!! I just banged it pretty bad and its ok but I am sure todays shift is going to be "LOVELY"!! I have few appts tomorrow and then working regular job at night. Then I am off for the week!! I an going to lay tile in the lanai-FINALLY!!! Plus we have a few small jobs to check off the list before the big work starts next month!! Have a happy and SAFE weekend!! Cheers! Susie

Sounds like you have it all under control, Susie! I know you are going to love, love, love your new place!

Annie, you deserve a break! LOL I hope you and Elery find something fun to "do" tomorrow!

Melissa, enjoy your camping trip. We have been unseasonably cold here the last couple of days, too. Highs only in the mid 60's.....very weird.

Only plan I have for this weekend is to find time to go shopping to pick up last minute wardrobe needs for Erin's wedding next weekend.

Gotta find time to get to the hospital to see Frank, too. Although he is still not as responsive as they had hoped he would be.

Was up all night with a sick dog, so I am draggin' this morning. Geez, when it rains it pours.

I will be so happy to get on the river with the girls in a few weeks and just relax!

It's 2 pm and I'm still working on my morning coffee, so a clunk of my travel mug to you.

Susie -- in your SPARE time? What spare time?? Hey, glad that Acme settled. Too bad you have to come back to this store to keep all your perqs.

No sleeping in for me tomorrow. The carpet for the den will be installed at 8:15. Hope I like it. I can't even remember what I ordered. Something beige.

So tonight I have to clean out everything but the big stuff from the den. I already did that a few months ago when the den was remodeled. Oh well, I should be getting good at it.

Saturday night is dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. We're going to George's which is George Perrier's place in the suburbs. His city restaurant is Le Bec Fin.

SUnday, I don't know. On Sunday I'll do everything else, like laundry, yard work, etc.

The boss is on vacation (or holiday as she says. She's from Toronto)for the next two weeks. I have plenty of work to do but it will be nice to not have her breathing down my neck.

Happy weekend. (Linda, hope Frank and the dog are doing better).

Susie - I am also happy to hear tha Acme settled. It had to be unnerving to think what all the possible outcomes may have been. AND good luck with the packing! It will all be worth it in the end, just keep your eye on the prize!

Annie - happy farming! Maybe it is time to teach Elery how to fix fences, muck stalls, etc. If all else fails, teach him to can! LOL!

Melissa - more power to you. I am NOT a camper so I shudder to think of taking a 2 year old camping. Hope you enjoy your outdoorsy time with your sister though!

Linda I am still sending healing thoughts your way - hope Frank is back to his old self soon.

Dedtired - have a blast at George's! You have to let me know how it is (well, I know it will be FAB, but tell me what everyone ordered LOL) And good luck with the carpeting - maybe you opted for the eggplant or chartreuse instead and it will be a huge surprise!

We are laying low tonight. It was supposed to be "Dive In" Movie night at our pool, but it is raining, so I think it will be cancelled. That means the boys have a Spongebob Marathon in the works and DH and I will watch a non-kid appropriate movie in peace (I think he got Role Models, but I'm not sure). Tomorrow we aer going to MD to see my mom for her birthday. Sunday I am camping out on the computer to buy Brewfest Tix as soon as they go on sale - it sold out really fast last year (less than 24 hours) and promises to sell out just as fast this year. THen it is of to the car show (classic Corvettes, oh yippee) and hopefully getting the last of the moulding cut to finish the trim in the batroom. I won't bore you with the whole story here, but since last Sat, my entire bathroom was unexpectedly gutted and rebuilt. I ended up drywalling, spackling, sanding and painting into the wee hours several days this past week.
