My mom could use your prayers...

My poor mom. She's been through so much. I'm afraid her little body won't take much more. Some of you know the situation but for those who don't - she has NPH or Normal Pressure Hydrocephalous. It's excess water on the brain and her particular circumstances don't allow for any treatment. So that condition just worsens over time.

She also has severe eye problems. She's had a cornea transplant, resurgery to fix the stitches and a valve implant (for glaucoma) on her right eye. So much damage over the years - she only has about a 2% vision left in that eye. Now the other eye is giving her more problems and she faces surgery next week. I have taken her to see no less than 8 doctors in two weeks and she still has to see more. All this stress doesn't help the NPH either and I'm afraid I've been less than pleasant to live with as well.

She's had to see her PCP for medical clearance, who did an EKG. She didn't like the result so she is to see her cardiologist tomorrow. Had a chest x-ray this afternoon and will have blood work tomorrow. Ugh... I think I have run out of patience with all this.

All we're trying to do is stabilize the pressure in her left eye to preserve what's left of the vision in that eye.

I'm just beyond frustration. My job has been less than helpful. I don't feel 100% comfortable with my brother taking her to the cardiologist - but that's what has to happen tomorrow. I've missed too much work already this week.

Thank you everyone - had a family Christmas party last night at my nieces house and my 7 year old granddaughter was there. I held her so close and was so thankful to God that I could. She was so full of life and so excited about new dance moves she was learning and a new song she is learning. I just 'drank' it all in. So many many parents and grandparents will never see their 6 or 7 years old ever do that. There are times when I say 'why God??' but in the end I know he has his plan and one day it will all be made clear. Oh, I hope they're able to figure out why she's got a fever and that they're able to whip it and that she's back home and healthy really soon, Sandra. I'm glad they kept her, though, because enforced rest is a good thing when you're that ill. (((((Sandra and Lady)))))

Barbara....you and your Mom will be in my prayers. You are a wonderful daughter for doing all you do for your Mom.
It does get overwhelming, so you have to take care of yourself, too.

Barbara,

I'll most definitely offer prayers for your mother, as well as you - you deserve them too. All too well I understand the "position" you are in. It will get better and/or change.

Employers need to be a little more understanding, afterall, aren't they someone's son or daughter?

Be strong, keep the faith and find someone to lean on - if only for a minute here and there.

Oh, gosh, Barbara, that's a lot of worries for you and your mom. Poor thing. I hate watching our parents getting older and less strong. I hope for the best for all of you.

I'm sorry you are having to take the brunt of these troubles, and I agree that you are a very good daughter. Perhaps you can write out a list of questions for your brother to ask the doctor? Or maybe put in a call yourself to the doctor's office soon after her appointment so you too can hear what the doctor had to say. In my situation which is not nearly as difficult as yours, my sister has to make all the visits with my mom because she is the only one of us who lives in the same city. She is lucky to have a job with flexible hours that makes this possible. It really bothers me when I hear about people struggling to keep their jobs while attending to medical situations with either themselves or their families. Good will shown by employers goes a long way. I wish you and your mom well.
