Oh wow, sorry I am so late reading this post. The days just aren't long enough even with the longer daylight days, LOL. I guess you all know how much I love pink roses, thanks so much. Krista you know I adore that rose, I can smell her from here. UMMMMM, good. Duchess is that a hellebore? Wonderful plant. I have one I planted last year. As soon as the snow melts enough on that side of the house I am hoping to find it thrived. Carol, yes my birthday was the 9th, I think I made a mistake when I did my profile years ago. I am still 39 though, LOL. Florence your pictures always make me smile, they always seem to contain sunshine. Celeste, lilacs are sent from heaven, I love them, that fragrance is divine. Hamp, Buddy is wonderful, still the main man in my life. I got him a baby sister a couple of weeks ago. I little black cat, 6 months old, named her Sissy as she is Buddy's baby sister. They adore each other. Judith, someday we are gonna meet in person and I will personally give you a tour of my little yard and we will sniff roses together. Jackie thank you for the great pic, I love it. He is a gorgeous rose. Pugwash is great. I love it here and my little garden is growing all the time with new additions. Jon, I'll take one rainy day with you over a hundred sunny summer days without. Zeffy, isn't that Lavendar Lassie pretty? And I'm glad to read you're feeling a little bitter. Gean, my Buff Beauty has been a disappointment but now I will aspire to have one as pretty as yours, thanks Patricia, I'll obey any "order" that requires kissing my pugs and thank you for the kind words Sue, I'll just go and give 'em another round of smooches :-) LA I said what I meant and I meant what I said--you have a painter's eye Rosefully, I smiled at my garden but the weeds winked back. Hmmmm. Carol, give that Beau a kiss for me (someone else has to be playing loose with the pooches) and I bet your garden is as beautiful as ever and yes, Joe is perfect Olga, ten, yes, ten decrepit pugs in varying stages of decay (we rescue them that way) and they are delightful and amusing at all times except when food or the whiff of it is around and then they turn into fuzzy, near-sighted, short-snouted jackals. You guys are the very best! This thread lifted me up and carried me through a delightful post-birthday weekend despite continuing triple digit heat. What beautiful flowers, what silly, smiley and noble canines, what sweet sentiments (and I'll pass along the greetings to DH "Holedigger"). You should've seen the blind pugs lined up at the "magic box" (refrigerator) for baby carrots--we went through 5 bags this weekend :-) Love to you all

THANKS everyone!!!! Wow.

Yesterday was the best birthday of my life. (I'm 58 so that means a lot!)

Andrea (a modest cook) made the entire dinner (except for the asparagus, which I blanched and then tossed with olive oil, butter, parmesan, and garlic).

She made a roulade of flank steak with mushroom stuffing, a simple salad and steamed carrots.

She even made my favorite cake -- carrot cake. I gave her the recipe.
