I'm confused. You'll have four ovens in your kitchen, and the question is whether to trade a cooktop, special-looking turned legs, and functional pot drawers for a range + 5th oven? I'm probably missing something since I think the answer is so obviously to pick the cooktop.

But you know, I'm struggling with a range-top. I'm really used to my Capital Range, and the look. It's a real struggle giving it up.

Option 1. Bluestar is a contender for us. But you have four ovens. It's oven overkill. Go with the great cooktop and the extra drawer space. You can use the drawers on the right or the left for something else. You do not need an extra oven! Plus it's just spending more money to do it. Option 1!

I have the Blue Star range and love it. If you don't really need to have the range, why not the Blue Star range top?

FWIW - have been using the range for about 8 months and have not found the oven to be hot. I would not have known there was an issue if I had nor read about it on Appliances.

I vote Bluestar. Only because I think it's what you want and an I am a big fan of getting what you want. And if you do have grandkids, maybe you could use the fifth oven for toy storage ;-)

I too have a BS range. It's a 36" 6 burner It's been up and running since October 2010 and to date I've suffered none of the problems that some others have.
It is a cooking machine.
While I wish I had room for 2 ovens, 5 seems like overkill and to pony up an additional almost $500 for an oven you'll likely never use, seems like an awful waste.
As "sayde" suggests you may want to look into a BS rangetop or go with your first choice the CC.

bee, because I don't think you will use the Bluestar oven with the Miele's being more convenient being wall ovens, I would vote that you go for the CC rangetop. I think because it has the knobs across the front you will still get the look, especially since it allows you to integrate a special detail with your cabinetry. I know the bluestar is a phenomenal cooking machine but the CC is too (although I hate the look of the bulbous oven door handle - which you wouldn't have to worry about). I was at Eurostoves recently --Trevor made me a steak lunch using the wok feature on the CC. Just crazy how quick and easy it was to get such a good seer on the meat and the veggies nice and crispy. I was totally SOLD on the CC and planned to get it myself (just the rangetop with seperate wall ovens) until I realized how it would pinch my space and now I am looking at either Bluestar drop in or Maestro (and giving up the pro style look that I also really like!).

Either way seems like a win /win!

Ummm...5 ovens?? CC rangetop (biased as that's my appliance) for sure. I'd rather have the storage than a fifth oven. Plus, the CC ROCKS!!!!

Are the Mieles a for-sure purchase? Because I'm wondering why not Bluestar wall ovens plus the CC cooktop?

I don't know enough to know if the Miele's are superior enough to the BS wall ovens to make this a ridiculous suggestion. But I think the BS wall ovens are dang cute (love the 36" with the double doors) and I really like the sound of the looks AND functionality of your CC cooktop plus drawers plus sexy legs.

How about this... can you post some elevations? Then you can photoshop (or I can help if you want) the different options you're thinking about. Maybe visualizing will help. Then again maybe it will make it more confusing, in which case it's time for more wine.

If you are almost never going to use the range oven and it's just for looks, then it doesn't matter if you happen to get a model where the doors are hotter than you'd like.

The only functional concern I'd have is whether you have another place for your pots that would be just as, or maybe even more convenient. Pots near the stove is handy, but having to back away from the stove to get one is less so. If you have a nearby drawer for them instead, you should get the look you want. If getting the range means the pots are across the room ....

Well, as much as I like the look of the pro ranges, I am an absolute sucker for a cooktop with turned legs and drawers... Yum.

Cracking up about the comment about posting this to the enablers... Sorry, I really did try to say "Go for it, get what you love! So what if you have TWENTY ovens!", but this came out instead, because I so love that look and the functionality is great.

I considered a cooktop and wall ovens, but am sold on the look of a pro style range. We have a 48" on order. I just can't get past the fact the range is the look I've always wanted, still love, and I'm the one that gets to look at it every day. For cost reasons, I didn't get to do a lot of the things I wanted in my last house kitchen remodel, and I hate that daily "I wish I could have....".
I say do what you really want. You have to live with it.

I had a hard time enabling you on the built in Miele coffee maker, but I too am a sucker for a range! We have a small kitchen and are switching from a cooktop and wall oven to a range.

If you really want the blue star, and 5 ovens is a bit excessive, can you change the meile double ovens to a single? Then get the range and still have 4?? I personally don't love 2 double wall ovens, I like the idea of a single, can you maybe gain some of the storage space with drawers under there than?

What about the Blue Star Range and instead of double Miele wall ovens, just get the Miele speed oven. It is a fully functional convection oven but also a speed oven and a microwave. I have one of these together with the Blue Star range. The Miele is actually quite large even though it is not full size.

This has been a great combination -- I love the gas infrared broiler in the Blue Star oven and it is great for big things. But for baking things like a 9 inch square pan of gingerbread, the Miele is really nice. It handles most of what we do on a day to day basis. I also have the Breville convection toaster oven which I find I use a lot.

So you might want to open up your choices to some other combinations. Combine different things -- gas oven/electric oven, large oven/small oven -- so you get the best of everything.

5 ovens is ridiculous overkill. So are 4, unless you run a cupcake bakery out of your home. A range plus a single other oven alternative is overkill for the way most people use their kitchens. A 48" range with two ovens ought to cook anything on the planet that you want to cook for a crowd of 30. There are plenty of restaurants that don't have that capacity and serve world class meals. You are getting caught up in conspicuous consumption wants here rather than actually analyzing your needs. You need a reality check.

I never really considered a steamer as an oven. Do people use them for baking? Do people who have double wall ovens not have a microwave either?

Holly, you don't know me or how I cook or entertain. You seem to have a lot of issues with how I spend my money. You assumed that by having a slipper tub in my bathroom I would be increasing the cost of my bathroom by $5,000. Funny, it cost me nothing since the builder bought the tub and installation is part of that.

I am not looking at a 48" range. I have a 36" range top with 2 very expensive drawers under it. My question was simply should I forgo the drawers, spend a small amount extra and get the LOOK I want of a full range rather than a CC rangetop.

I am waiting for a new cabinet quote from another custom cabinetmaker. His costs are surely going to be lower, therefore the 2 drawers below the range top will not be so expensive and the option of swapping them for a range is going to be a moot point.

I know people here can be very judgmental about how you choose to use your money. I've gotten that before too. :)

Questions:
1. Have you made a decision? I'm actually just considering changing my plans from a 60" CC range top to a 60" CC range (my wife is really into the look of a range, too, and the main oven fits 22 x 28" full sheet).
2. From my own experience with kitchen design tradeoffs: can you afford to lose the cabinet space the range would take up? We are designing a fairly large kitchen (19 x 22) but with an open peninsula plus a 12' window, storage is at a premium for us.
3. Why is the CC range not a consideration? I really like the look of it.

I think you should get whichever you'll be happier to see when you walk into your kitchen each day.

Go with what looks best to you. Either way you'll have enough ovens. Despite what some may say 4 ovens is the ideal minimum. You should have 2 in the main kitchen and another 2 in the bakery and these should be steam ovens.

Oh no, I missed that thread, is it too late? You HAVE to get the miele coffee maker. It is the best thing since canned beer bottled wine! I would actually kiss it every morning if I didn't think family was watching.

Is it too late to change your mind? This is seriously the best machine on god's green earth. You have to get the coffee maker. Maybe you can 'downsize' to only 3 or 4 ovens to justify the coffee maker. :)
