Tomatos Sprayed with Chlorine Bleach Report
Comments (50)Oh Dawn, I feel for you. They are extremely painful. We moved from Wilson to Lone Grove between my 6th and 7th grade. I had lived in the same house since 2nd grade so knowing that I was moving was kind of exciting so I started packing really early. I had some boxes stored behind a door and I reached down to pick up a smaller one so I could put a large one under it, and a scorpion got me on the little finger. At that time, I had never had a pain that was that bad and of course the only thing we ever kept for pain was aspirin. I remember being on the bed crying with my little finger stuck down in a glass of rubbing alcohol. It didn't help, but it was all I had. With all of your critters, I think you are smart to keep liquid Benadryl for quick action against swelling and such. I wish I could do that but all the liquid that I have ever seen was red and I think it is colored with Red 40. My reaction to dye is so severe that I can only imagine what a liquid dose would do to me if I was already in stress. I drank some pink lemonade one night and almost had to go to the hospital and since I hadn't had anything else for hours before, it was easy to isolate. I was relieved to finally find the cause, but I do have to be careful. I read a lot of labels to make sure I don't get it. When it all started, I would have reactions to meds for no apparent reason because the meds were not related. It was driving my doctor and my pharmacist nuts. We finally learned it was the color, not the medicine. I was sick an awful lot of times from food and medicine before I finally isolated the cause. Years before I had spent the day in the emergency room after taking "pink" medicine. They finally released me, never having known what sent me there. I had to fly quite a lot for my job and I would always take motion sickness meds. I would feel sick, have severe cramps, and more....after every trip. I guess I just thought everyone did. I sure was happy to learn that all I had to do was change brands and I could buy it in yellow. LOL It is a weird allergy and Red 40 is in so many processed foods where you would never expect it. I have hated the taste of Red "things" all of my life. They tell me that only a few people can taste red dye, but it has a very bitter taste to me and leaves a bad aftertaste. Even before I started having bad reactions to it, I tried not to consume it because it didn't taste good. I always loved hard peppermint candy, but there was only one brand that tasted good to me. I love cinnamon but couldn't stand Red Hots because they were bitter. Of course, I could never figure why other people loved red things that I thought were gross. Turns out they didn't taste that way to others, and I was the weird one....See MoreChlorine Bleach for disinfecting
Comments (28)“When Clorox® Regular-Bleach is stored between 50°F and 70F° and away from sunlight, it will maintain label strength of the sodium hypochlorite active for up to 6 months (at this point hospitals should replace it). After 6 months it starts breaking down into salt and water, but it will still work well for the home consumer up to a year. Since it’s always diluted before use, you can just use a little more. Beyond a year, it should be replaced because the rate of decomposition into salt and water speeds up, which is a big part of why it’s environmentally friendly.”...See MoreMiele and Chlorine Bleach
Comments (17)I think Miele states that because: 1. Bleach can damage the heating elements, and 2. The fact that Miele can heat the water itself, with or without oxygen bleach, can potentially clean better than a dose of chlorine bleach. I am talking laundry, though, not a machine cleaning cycle. As we all know, most people do not follow the directions on the bleach bottle. I think it is a preventative measure to prevent washer or clothing damage, and then have the customer blame the company. The Bosch FL I had a few years back said absolutely no chlorine bleach was to be used, or it would void the warranty....See MoreChlorine Bleach Crystals + Dishwasher Detergent
Comments (24)Over the past few days. I had my own little experiment with bleach in the pre-wash. The first picture is my tea cups, stained with Early Grey tea + milk + hard water. This is is after the pre-wash with a teaspoon of the wonderful Aldi ''Alio Compact'' powder. This wash last 15 minutes, starts cold and heats up to about 120F. More tea-stained cups, waiting to be bleached. I poured a little Dan Klorix right into the water, after the dishwasher had filled. 15 minutes later... Final thoughts... The bleach pre-wash probably had the tea stains knocked out in minutes, while the detergent needed the hot wash cycle (or an extended low-temp wash) to get the same results. Opening the door to check on the results also took me right back to the mid-90s, when I used my aunts GE dishwash with Cascade powder - the smell of bleach. On the other hand, I wonder about possible negative side-effects on delicate, unprotected patterns on glasses and on the dishwasher itself. After all, chlorinated dishwasher detergents for domestic use were phased out some good 20 years ago and modern detergents conatin buffer agents to protect dishes. In the end, I will stick with a teaspoon of powder in the pre-wash, as it's easier to dose (goes in even before the machine starts), potentially gentler, and I get perfectly clean dishes either way. The bleach smell is nice, though....See Morelivebetter
