I really think you needed to get rid of those valances!!! However, I'm not 100% sure the scarves are great. there is a lot going on already, I would be tempted to just leave the windows as is with just the blinds. They don't need to be dressed any further.
JMO, but if you are committed to the scarves, I would rearrage the fabric so it's a bit more full and spread out and less ribbon like. Maybe not looped so many times.

I think you are on the right track, it looks fresher, but I think some tweaking is in order. Maybe the fabric needs to be wider and with fewer loops over the rod? Or wider fabric, same number of loops, but the middle one being longer? Just one opinion.

I find that you have to be careful with looping white scarves; otherwise you can end up looking like someone toilet-papered your house while you slept.

I love the white so maybe try white sheer valances. This will still give it interest making it light and airy and not too heavy.

LOL graywings. I couldn't figure out what was bothering me about the scarves... Tergar, I had a similar treatment in my DD bedroom 15 years or so ago. They only draped once over the window, then were secured with these special rings which formed a rosette when you threaded your fabric through them kind of like this:

Rubberbands can do the same thing, with a cup hook, with one or two rosettes per window.

Or, just do something like this without the rosettes.

But, I think the number of loops you have draws attention to the curtains, rather than just softening the window and letting the view shine.

Looks much better than with valances, definately needs some tweeking though, I agree about less loops, however IMO I wouldnt put anything. The room looks lovely just with the blinds on the windows. You have so many windows, I would keep it simple with blinds only. The room does feel as it needs some softening with fabric, what about upholstered chairs, that would soften that area.

I think the idea is good since it treats the window wall as a whole instead if dividing it in half, but it does look a bit loopy. Could you spread out the swags so they were filled in with fabric instead of open in between?

I think it looks great! I love scarves but they're a pain in the butt to hang; especially that high. Did you hang them yourself or did someone do it for you? I can never get the fabric to stay put.

Too many loops - it looks like a maypole or holiday bunting. Ending the scarves partway down the window makes it look like you ran out of fabric.

Make a long streamer between each window, all the way to the floor, and shallow, more spread out loops as valances that cover more of the pole and window. Leave the tallest window plain - it will have a streamer beside it.

Am I the only one who thought the original valances looked nice? If you want something lighter maybe try a white or light colored valance. I'm not loving the new scarf look.

Much, much, much nice looking now. I would not add anything to the middle window; it is decorative enough to stand on it's own. Agree that you may want to lessent the depth of the loops. Without that valance, you have created a great look and, as I state previously, it looks so much nicer now.

I would also have NO window treatments. The windows are so beautiful, I wouldn't distract from them. Could we possibly see it without the scarves??

tergar, your room is lovely, but I too would vote for no scarves or valances. The windows are fine on their own, I think, with good lines and lots of wonderful light coming in. To me the scarves add unnecessary confusion. But as one of our contractors said, "I can't see your house from my house, and you know what makes you happy."

I would leave all of the upper windows uncovered, like you did when the valances were there. Those are decorative windows that, to me, look best naked. If you want to use scarves on the lower windows, a design like deeinohio posted would look better, but they might interfere with the blinds. I think the windows look nice with only the blinds.

Another vote for nothing on the windows. I think the valances being gone is great, but the replacement scarves remind me of crepe paper streamers for a party. They are too loopy, and too delicate for the huge amount of windows you have.

Honestly, why do you feel you need something hung on the windows other than the existing blinds? I think the windows are spectacular kept simple.

Beautiful room! My friend has the same kind of windows and she draped sheers just like you did, however she hung the rod just below the transom windows so that she didn't cover the decorate windows. It looks really nice. Maybe you could move your rod down.

You do have beautiful windows with a great view. Have you considered some plain panels between the windows? Or maybe just the blinds? I do like how you can see the window that was covered up by the valance, it's very attractive.

Another vote for Nothing. The windows and the view are beautiful just the way they are.
Maybe a live (not fake) plant in the corner.

Much better without the valances; though agree with others the scarves need some tweaking. I understand your wish to soften the windows and since I can see you went to lots of work to hang the rods, I would definitely give dee's suggestions a try first. I would treat each window separately, draping similar to the rosette style so that each window is framed with the scarf training down. Play with the center drape a bit, but don't make it come down so low. It should only cover about 1/3-1/2 of the transom, no more, as you also want to showcase the decorative windows on top. I seem to recall you had young children to decorate around. I would do nothing in the middle and let that window stand alone to showcase the view.

Did you paint your room also or is the difference just do to lighting?

Thank you all!! Wow!! So it seems that most people think either no window treatments at all or I need to severely lessen the loops. Let me tell you a few things about why I did what I did...

My 2, 5 and 7 year old eat, color and whatever else in there, so I don't want a lot of fabric hanging down. I hung the loops that far down because when they were up a bit higher the swags seemed to cover the whole decorative window and I like that this allows the window to peek through a bit. But I don't want them where the valances were because when I took the valances down I realized how much of the view I was missing out on from the top of the regular window. BUT I am not so concered about the view from the decorative window because all I really see out of them is the sky. And I can see plenty sky through the big half circle window in the middle. OMG does that make sense??? I hope so.

That being said... I will play with it tomorrow and see what else I can come up with, try speading them, less loops and maybe even try them all off, although I don't think I want that. Thanks again.

I don't love the scarves, but then, I've never much cared for scarf treatments. I don't care for tab-top curtains eiter, but know that they work for some.

Since you donâÂÂt care about the view from the top windows (all sky), what about hanging the old valances up there? The one that was below the arched window could go on the small windows on the left (is that above doors, perhaps?)

I think your windows are lovely, and I understand wanting to soften them up with treatments. The white is a great improvement over the valances (which feel much too dark for the room, for me). As it is now, for each set of windows there are three "loops"; can you try two loops for each set of windows and see how that looks/feels? And I think the middle window is fine to stand alone on its own. I think you're getting very close!
