The movie: Fireproof. Starring Kirk Cameron.

I saw this at Rogers and figured why not? He hasn't done anything that I know of in eons. How bad can it be? Well, we tried. We honestly *tried* to watch this movie. It made my ears bleed. It was like fingernails on a chalkboard. I actually apologized to my husband for picking it out. It's 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back. And $5.00 we can't get a refund on.

I thought I had better warn you all............ Trust me, I was even being nice about how bad this movie really is.

we also rented Lakeview Terrace. And it keeps stopping 52 minutes into the movie. We cleaned the disc and ran the cleaner through the machine. It still stops at 52 minutes. So I can't tell you a lot about this movie. Not my cup of tea, personally but my husband thinks it's okay. From what we've been able to see, anyways.

debby ~ I hate to hear how bad Fireproof is. I like Kirk Cameron so much or at least I used to when he was more popular. I hadn't thought of him in years.

I've heard Fireproof has a very religious theme. I haven't seen it.

I did just watch "Ghost Town" on pay-per-view. I laughed out loud in a few parts (and I RARELY do that)... a very good movie. Got a lot of good critic reviews too.

I love a warm fuzzy. I saw one on Hallmark channel, The Good Witch. It was sappy and predictable and I enjoyed it. Catherine Bell from Army Wives was beautiful.

The movie is worth seeing for Streep's performance. She accurately captures the endearing goofiness of Julia, even down to the awkward body language and that weird voice that sometimes would drift into an unmodulated screech. Stanley Tucci is excellent as well. I found the structure of the movie a tad strained, though. Putting those two stories together--well, the parallels seemed artificially strained at times, or at the very least unbalanced. The portion of the movie dedicated to the lives of a couple of struggling NYC yuppies just isn't as interesting as the story of a diplomat and his feisty wife (who will soon revolutionize American cuisine) living in postwar Paris. If the Streep scenes are fresh figs and Sauternes, the NYC scenes are Fig Newtons and skim milk. And, when the movie drifts away from cuisine into some political/social commentary, it does so in Hollywood's typical preachy hectoring tone. But that's a minor cavil. Fred Astaire movies weren't known for consistency and logical plots, either, but they were enjoyable. Have a glass of decent bubbly before the show and enjoy this confection. As Julia would say, "Bon..." oh, you know the rest.

I think Gran Torino got bad reviews also, but I loved it. What was funny/strange, though, was the fact that after the movie was over, no one moved...everyone stayed seated while Clint Eastwood sang that song...and he's no singer. I know someone else who went at another time, and he is the one who brought up the fact that no one made a move to leave after the movie was over...usually people get up and try to be the first ones out the door :o)

I just watched one last night - "Funny Games" starring (and produced by) Naomi Watts, with co-star Tim Roth and Michael Pitt. Scariest darn movie I ever saw and I don't usually like them because they seem to be dumbed down to me - just a "slice 'em and dice 'em, bag 'em and tag 'em" mode - but this was not your run of the mill horror movie - it came from a different place.

Ghost Town is a keeper! I told my husband I want to buy that one. And yeah, Lydia my husband even said he thought they were about to start preaching any second now. That's not the bad part though. The acting and script were horrible. And it seemed more like a public service announcement with a bunch of really cheesey lines.

Actually, I heard that Fireproof was from the same church and production company that made Facing the Giants. I read somewhere that Facing the Giants was done by non-professionals or non-actors. I think I read that Fireproof was the same except that Kirk Cameron was in it. But I could be wrong.

I caught several Pink Panther movies the past few months on cable and thoroughly enjoyed them--again. It had been decades since I had seen them. Peter Sellers was good.

I can't use the remote fast enough when I catch Cameron doing his preaching thing.

I knew about his movie, so would never watch it..sorry you didn't have a headsup, Debby.
