Cookbook title puzzler

While browsing in the book section at the Exchange yesterday, my eye caught a cookbook. I picked it up,looked briefly at it until my DH came by to get me and off we went to another section of the store. Now I'm trying to remember the title - maybe one of you know this book so that I can see if the city or county library system has it:

The title was really cute, "The cheating cook" or something like that. The premise was getting your husband to eat better by hiding healthy foods inside stuff he'd probably eat.

Any clue here? I'm not planning another trip to the Exchange for a few more weeks, and stopping by is not easy to do (it's 12 miles away).

I lived with an Indian for a year once... very authentic curry. I was stunned when I ordered a "curry" in a nice restaurant and out came this delicious but mild and sweet dish. Ahhh.... the adventure of it all! In the following years I've learned that India is a huge country with regional variations as different as our southern cooking is from our western styles. You will need to hunt out places to buy items for your dish. In the USA we have lentils... in India they have several kinds of lentils. Cumin is a loser until the US makes more friends in the middle east... they got the good stuff. Tamarind can also be found in Mexican food stores... I've found canned tamarind juice in a large grocery store. I've posted a link to the best canned curry I've every had... authentic Indian flavor. Keep in mind that in India the women start cooking dinner in the morning and cook all day long to get that authentic taste. Cookbooks and booklets are great fun, especially old ones. There were many versions of Rumford cookbooks and were quite common to most households, so aren't valuable (about $15-$17). Fannie Farmer wrote a 1922 version (plain red and black cover) and 1906 Rumford Cook Book. I have the Lily Maxworth Wallace version. I sometimes think the hand-written recipes inside the books are the most interesting part of the book. In my Rumford Complete Cook Book (1908), originally owned by Mrs. Jack Bush of Glen White, W.VA. (I purchased it for $3 in central Kansas), is a typical-for-the-times Jell-o recipe for "Under-the-Sea Salad" and "Date Surprises" (scary, huh) on the MOMORANDA (blank) sheets. I wonder if this hand-written recipe was a family favorite.... Baking cookbooks - Baking With Julia, and the W. S. Bread book

Sally, Baking with Julia is one of my favourite cookbooks. I use her recipe for French bread and it is her recipe I use for Croissants and the Pain au Chocolate. I can highly recommmend both recipes. If you are really in the mood for baking you can't go wrong with the croissants. Make half croissants and half Pain au Chocolate. They freeze well too. I know that there are a few more recipes in that cookbook that I have made, but unfortunately, Moe already boxed up all my cookbooks so I'm without any cookbooks until after we get moved. Or until I have at least 80 feet of bookshelves built. LOL! Ann

THAT'S IT! Thanks!

I'm giggling, though - both of you answered the post with the exact same answer at the exact same time.

I'd like to take a longer glance at the book to decide if it's something I want to buy for myself - my usual thing is to borrow one from the library to look it over. I did that with several other cookbooks that I now own. Some, I was lucky enough to find in the Friends of the Library bookstore!

Update: our library system had the book, and it came to me within a day or so of requesting it. I'm in the process of reading through it. The author has it right: if the DH thinks that the recipe might taste "different" because it's healthy, he won't eat it - or he'll throw a statement like "I don't like (blank), why did you put (blank) in that recipe?"

Thanks again - I may be purchasing this book. Now - does anyone have Lisa Lillien's "The Hungry Girl" cookbook? What do you think of it?
