Treadmill Upstairs
Comments (2)If it really is a treadmill, you might want to hold out for awhile. If he/she is like most anyone else, the interest will fade and he/she will stop using it. If you do ask that person to move it, be aware that he/she may move it somewhere that could be even more bothersome (like over your bedroom). Also, maybe it just needs a mat under it (a good exercise mat can help to absorb some of the sound). But maybe it is something else - could it be a washing machine and dryer? I don't know too many people that can sustain a couple of hours on a treadmill....See Moreshould I worry about putting a treadmill on the second floor?
Comments (16)From a personal experience, my wife moved the treadmill to a spare bedroom on the second floor of our last home. The home was only 6 years old. Anyway, the master bedroom was on the other side of the house. That thing was SO loud, it would wake me up when she worked out in the morning. The vibration, when she jogged, rattled the things on the walls. Since you live in a duplex, your neighbors may have concerns?...See MoreHow to disguise holes in kitchen cabinet
Comments (28)There are a couple of issues that I don't see being addressed: 1) It's possible that the ends of the valance are also glued in place. If so, removing glue residue and trying to restain the areas to match will be much harder than suggested. 2) The areas on the cabinets on each side that are now covered by the ends of the valance may be a different shade after years of not being exposed to sunlight. If so, staining these areas to match the rest of the cabinet may also be hard. I'm not trying to discourage you, but simply trying to prepare you for the issue that stain matching may be more of a challenge than making the holes disappear. Instead of spot-staining, it might be easier and better looking in the long run to mount a simple, low profile 3/4" trim strip covering the area that will be newly exposed and running it from top to bottom on the two flanking cabinets (so it will look like an intentional design element). It will be easier to blend the finish of this trim with the rest of the cabinet than to deal with trying to make the isolated, exposed areas match the old finish....See MoreHow to disguise wheelchair ramp
Comments (27)I can think of some fixes. May be some combination of these fixes will help. I straightened your picture which I think was making some people question the ramp. I would try to disguise the railing and ramp as much as possible. Where you can see under the ramp, add facing so that it is solid white. Then as you look up towards the front door, you are not contrasting the white railing and ramp with the dark area under it. Is repainting the front of the house in the budget? If so, paint it the same white as the ramp and railing. Choose a white front door. In short, anything that is not white that you can see behind a railing, should be painted the same colour, white. So remove the shrub that is against the house, again because its dark colour emphases the railing in front of it. Remove the tree for the same reason. Plant evergreen shrubs across the yard. No need to plant close to the ramp, as long as the shrubs are tall enough to cover it from most angles. My drawing is sort of blah just to give you the idea. Hopefully you will have a few different types for interest. So, then draw the eye to the attractive areas of the house. I would add eye-catching contrasting shutters in dark or bright colours. Add pots of flowers at the front of the bed that repeat the shutter colour. If you want, you could even face the chimney with stone or brick, or even just paint it differently from the rest of the house. It's an attractive feature. I don't really like the triangular holes near the chimney top, and I would fill them in....See Morecearbhaill (zone 6b Eastern Kentucky)
