How would you disguise this?
Comments (18)Joy and Cj, thanks for the personal experience. It sounds like the right solution. Cary, I like the looks of that too, not too ornate and would blend in nicely. Cienza, jewelry rather than girdle, I like it. :o) Jakabedy, the plywood is quarter inch, I think. We probably need to use the same molding that will be used in the dining room, so everything will look uniform. All of the baseboards in there were removed for the tile install, so we have to replace them anyway. Would guys use white around the cabinets? We have white trim everything, door, windows, etc. I am thinking it would look strange to have wood stained around the cabinets and white everywhere else, plus the cabinet wood color would probably be impossible to match perfectly....See More4" Gap Between Wall and Gas Range: how to disguise
Comments (7)Agree about moving the gas line. When we remodeled our kitchen we had our gas line moved and placed to accommodate a certain range. We later changed our mind and selected a different range, necessitating another relocation of the gas line. Every range we looked at had different specs for the location of the gas line. It was a fairly simple DIY project, but our gas line was in the wall. Not having the range flush against the wall would be my "last resort" option....See MoreHow to disguise exterior after garage conversion from 2 doors to 1?
Comments (9)Depending on the cost, I intend to do a full-fledged professional conversion of the left half of my 23 ft wide x 20 ft deep garage into a 10 ft wide x 20 ft deep practice space for my very loud drummer husband who currently practices in our aluminum sunroom (bless our neighbors who have put up with him for 15 yrs! & me for having no sunlight entering the back of my house ; ). Most say I'm crazy to do this, but this is probably our forever home, Charleston is a hot market, and I could describe it as a theater room if I ever were to sell. We live in a flood zone so our house is 5 ft high. There are steps leading down to garage which is at ground level. We would begin by framing in half of the garage facade & installing a new single door to replace the current double door. Once that is done we would have the most expensive part: the concrete piers extending from the garage slab floor to support the new floor so it is level with the rest of the house. We are lucky to have a garage with a huge ceiling! Sooo back to the original question, how do I make the exterior look normal? It helps that we have a huge oak tree in front so the driveway is only a few feet long in front of where the new room will be, helping it blend. My concern is merely what will become the dead/negative/blank space. It will just be a wall of nothing but boring vinyl siding 10 ft wide and 8 ft high (see photos/it will be the left side). Thank you all so much!!! Sorry for being so long winded....See MoreHow to disguise/change huge front arch window?
Comments (15)We had two of those in our vacation home, one in front and one in back. I hated them. We removed both of them. The one in back was over a set of french doors flanked by double hung windows, and we replaced it with transoms. The one in front was over double entrance doors, which we removed when we redesigned the front of the house. It now has a single door with side lights on the first floor, and a double hung window with side lights on the second floor. It's a much more classic look, which you could get by replacing it as nexp described above....See MoreAnnegriet
