Did you see 'Light it Up' the new show?

Did anyone tune into HGTV to see the new lighting show Sunday night? I caught the second run. It was good and they showed some nice lighting design solutions. One thing I found very neat and maybe I'm the only one who didn't knwo about these fixtures. It was screw in pole type pendent fixtures that just screwed right into recessed lighting outlet. The person had recessed lights over the tub so they took out the bulbs and screwed in these attractive pole type pendants. I was impressed with the ease of that fix.

Just curious about everyone's thoughts on the show.

I saw it and I really liked it! i am tivoing any new episodes. I really liked the string light ideas.....not sure 100% how they work though

I recorded part of it but was a bit busy to watch it. It did look good... though the gal said "it only cost $5,000" and she rather lost me there.

Violetta, I love your random post showing your sproutings. I wouldn't worry too much about the reddish colored leaves on one of your Palettes. The first leaves a clematis throws up in the spring may be adversely affected by alternating periods of cool and warm weather. Let the plant mature before attempting to decide whether it is a mislabeled clematis or not. Like you, the warm weather here is prematurely causing some of my clematis to begin pushing up new growth. I have several that are already 4 to 6 inches up and we are still about a month away from our last average frost day (April 15th). I have gone back and forth about whether to pinch the tops out since doing so is just going to encourage more growth. I finally bit the bullet yesterday and did pinch back a couple of the taller ones since if I wait, I know I will be hesitant to do it later if we don't get any more frosts this year. I guess it is a wait and see game from here on out! Once again thanks for showing pictures of your spring growth.

I personally cannot believe Peter could go from a "big baby" to a reasonable adult that quick, unless someone explained to him that if the restaurant closed the gravy train would close too. I thought it was interesting to watch after having watched all the shows in the British version. I think I will probably prefer the British version, I almost felt sorry for Chef Ramsey, Peter swore him under the table! I read an interview with Ramsey about the lawsuit, I'm not really surprised by it. There are a lot of lawsuit happy people here and plenty of unscrupulous lawyers willing to help them make a fast buck. It seems to me if he was fired, it had to be the owner who fired him. If a waitress losses her job because she does not do her job properly, does she get to sue all the patrons who complained about her lousy service? A general manager's job is to oversee everything that goes on in a restaurant and keep it operating profitably. Obviously this was not happening. Having work in kitchens, I doubt anyone needs to sabotage a kitchen at a troubled restaurant to make it look bad, most people would hate to see a restaurant kitchen mid service! And I have personally seen bill collectors (and bookies) show up at restaurants, and if they could not get in thru the kitchen door, they did waltz right in the front.

Amazing, I thought I wanted a white kitchen but I am drooling over this! Gorgeous. Buzzy, can I trouble you for all the gory details about cabinet manufacturer, style,and finish? Also, do you have a layout that you can post or email? are those upper 30 inch and 42 inch cabinets interspersed? (if you don't mind me possibly "lifting" your work). Did you work with a cabinet designer or do the design yourself? Is this a custom kitchen? I love love love the decorative details and practical details- like those amazing spice pullouts hidden behind the columns in by the cooktop! For the other columns, did they come attached to the cabinet fronts or did your contractor/carpenter do that? I'm tellin ya,this world is going to hell in a handbasket and quickly!!! JMHO Everything is about sex these days~~~~~~WHY??? I watch the TLC channel for the dr type shows,mystery diagnosis etc,then lately i turn that channel on and the shows are about how to have great orgasms,how to have a 3 some etc.Why do they think we need all that crap,people have been having sex for thousands of years and we never needed tv to tell us how or when.To add insult to injury these shows are coming on early enough that kids are still up!! Then yesterday i turned on dr oz and his show was about your errogenous zones and sex stuff,hello,it's the dinner hour when he comes on here,and i don't want to see that kind of stuff them or any other time. No i'm not a prude,but i am 72 and i've seen a lot in my life,but this is too much.As i said this is JMO,and you all are entitled to yours!! kathi

You mean HGTV actually has a new show that isn't about buying, selling or fixing color?! Egads! Where was I?!! I'll have to look for this one as lighting does so much & I'm so bad about knowing what to do w/ it. Thanks for the heads up.

Was it the episode where the homeowners were having a party? I watched it also. Pretty interesting and some newer ideas. I loved how they transformed the outside of the home. Very pretty.

I watched it last night - thought it was terrific. Can I just say that the house that was showcased was GORGEOUS!!! It was killing me that the couple kept saying, 'yeah, we don't use this room very often...or this room...'
If I owned that house I would be doing cartwheels all day in every one of those rooms - lighting or not!! Absolutely stunning!!!!

I enjoyed the show - but everything was overlit IMO, not from what they installed, but whoever did the set lighting.

That foyer looked terrible because of the set lighting - they didn't do the gorgeous fixture they installed any good in the process.
I really wish the set lighting would have let the lighting they added come thru.

The bedroom looked washed out as well.

I just went to the show's site to see what you all were talking about, and found one interesting tip:

"For determining the correct size for a fixture, add together the length and width of your room. The result in feet will be the fixture size in inches."

Love little formulas like that. Wonder how true they hold.

But above that, in the reference pic, were several big column candles resting *directly* on a beautiful wood table. Yeah, great idea. not.

I saw bits of it but kept getting bored and surfing off because few of the projects were of any use to me at all, and the 'tude of "only $5,000!" that got to Oceanna made me twitch too. About the only thing I really found interesting was the same fix that brutuses did, the convert-recessed-to-pendant fixture, although that's probably because I am notoriously passionate in my loathing of "ceiling acne"! I knew about the conversion kits where you can easily rewire a recessed can into an attachment point for a pendant, flush/semiflush or small chandelier - one is called the Can Converter - but that's the first one I've seen that just screws into the socket.

I am pretty sure that fixture is from A Well Hung Light (love the name! LOL). I also found another sort that has a corded pendant instead of a rigid pole, made by Worth Home Products, and they are cheaper but the style selection is quite skimpy.

I was initially skeptical--given the other HGTV fare--but I liked the episode that I saw. I noticed that they used rope lights in a number of applications. I have been told that they can melt (the rope itself) and become a hazard. Does anyone know if this is the case or if there are better quality rope lights that do not have this problem?
