Anyone see Chef Ramseys new show???

Last nights show featured Peters Pasta in Babylon Long Island ...funny enough John and I frequent this place and its one of our favorites local eatery's . We had no idea that there was a problem the food is always excellent. Funny though a couple of months back we went with my nephew and his wife and we went to the bar area before dinner hubby orderred a Bacardi and Coke with a twist of lime and the bartender said "We are out of Bacardi"...we were like "How can you be out of Bacardi?" So we had a 1/2 hour before dinner...we went next door to the Post Office Cafe and had our drinks there before we went back to eat...hubby joked that they probably owe the liquor vendor! Guess that was the case. Anyhow,I was shocked when I turned on the tv to see one of my favorite haunts!

Is it as full of bleeps as his other show? He is the one that does Hell's Kitchen, isn't he? I thought about watching it last night, but forgot about it. Oh, well. I used to watch Restaurant Makeover on the Food Network when it was on. It was kinda interesting, but sort of odd, too.

Is this it? Looks very good. Tomato Sauce: Cook 1 cup minced onions in a 2 qt. saucepan stirring until tender Â remove half and reserve for the white sauce. Stir in 2 large, chopped tomatoes, cover and cook. Drain 2 cups of canned crushed tomatoes. Stir in herbs (thyme and bay leaf), 2 cloves of garlic, a pinch of saffron threads and Â¼ - teaspoon dried orange peel, and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer slowly, partially covered for 30 minutes, adding juice from the canned tomatoes when needed. Boiling the Lasagna: Drop 10 to 12 curly lasagna into boiling water, add salt and some olive oil and boil slowly, uncovered for 15 minutes until al dente (or chewy). Drain and rinse in cold water and hang on edge of colander until the other components are ready. White-wine onion sauce: Blend the reserved Â½ cup onions with 6 tablespoons of butter in a heavy 2 quart saucepan over moderate heat. When butter is bubbling, blend in 8 level tablespoons of flour at once and cook, stirring for 2 minutes without browning the flour at all. Remove from heat. When mixture has stopped bubbling, pour in 2/3s of a heated mixture of milk and stock (3 to 3 Â½ cups) all at once, blending with a wire whip. Blend in more, leaving about Â½ cup for later. Beat in 1/3-cup dry wine and set over high heat, stirring until sauce comes to a boil, continue for about 5 minutes. Thin out with remaining hot mixture if necessary until the sauce can coat a spoon. Salt and Pepper to taste. Assembling the lasagna: Line the bottom of oiled baking dish with a layer of lasagna. Reserve 1 cup for top of lasagna later; spread 2 to 3 spoonfuls of white-wine onion sauce over the lasagna. Spread half the green vegetables (1/2 well-seasoned cooked, chopped green vegetables Â broccoli, asparagus and/or spinach). Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of grated mixed cheese, a mixture of 1-Â½ cups of cooked chicken, pork or turkey, and (optional) 1 cup diced mushrooms sautÃ©ed in butter. Spread over this a few tablespoons of white sauce. Cover with another layer of lasagna, and spread (same measurements) over the rest of the vegetables, more cheese, the remaining meat and mushrooms. Spread final layer of white sauce, cover with 1-cup ricotta cheese and finish with a covering of lasagna. Tuck ends of lasagna into edge of dish. Mask top with white sauce Â spoon tomato sauce over the top and sprinkle cheese all over. If not baking immediately, cover and refrigerate. Bake in the upper third of a preheated 400 oven for 30 minutes.

I saw bits of it but kept getting bored and surfing off because few of the projects were of any use to me at all, and the 'tude of "only $5,000!" that got to Oceanna made me twitch too. About the only thing I really found interesting was the same fix that brutuses did, the convert-recessed-to-pendant fixture, although that's probably because I am notoriously passionate in my loathing of "ceiling acne"! I knew about the conversion kits where you can easily rewire a recessed can into an attachment point for a pendant, flush/semiflush or small chandelier - one is called the Can Converter - but that's the first one I've seen that just screws into the socket. I am pretty sure that fixture is from A Well Hung Light (love the name! LOL). I also found another sort that has a corded pendant instead of a rigid pole, made by Worth Home Products, and they are cheaper but the style selection is quite skimpy.

Sjerin, the paper towels do work pretty well in that spot -- and looking through the photos in this thread, november and rayminkle have them in the same spot! How funny is that?!? The only time they are not convenient is when my kids spill something at the table (happens about 7x/day) -- it's about 6 paces away and not quite a straight shot. However, if I put the paper towels closer to the table, I think my two-year-old might "notice" them and start raiding the roll... There was a huge thread once about where people put the paper towels. Very entertaining. If I had a huge kitchen and no kids or dogs, I would have a little custom nook right under the counter, hidden from view behind an island or peninsula but without a door, so I could grab them quickly and easily but they'd be hidden. Doubt it will ever happen -- the kids will grow up and go, but there will always be dogs. :-) As for living without a dish drainer, when I was trying to figure out where everything would go in the new kitchen, I couldn't fit both the coffee maker and the dish drainer in the one logical spot for both. So I decided to try living without the DD (living w/out coffee is not an option) and not only could I live without it, but I was surprised by the difference in "cluttered-ness." Removing just the DD (and my old one was small, probably 14"x6") made a huge difference. And scootermom wins a prize -- my screen name means Champagne Tastes, as in "Champagne Tastes and a Beer Budget." I chose that b/c I found the kitchen forum when I was confused and disappointed after getting two quotes for our kitchen project -- both more than 50% over our budget. So when it asked me to choose a screen name, that phrase came right to mind. (see above about huge kitchen with custom paper towel nook) ;-) I did find another pic of the kitchen in action:

I have had no particular theory of perpetrator/s and began watching the 2-part special "Case of" with an objective mind. I had not formed any opinion of who committed the crime. Like many people, I always found the reports and statements a sloppy and incomplete mess. I've been around various blocks in life and although I will forever have trouble understanding and 'wrapping my mind around' the how and why of people behaving horribly, I will acknowledge that humans are capable of shocking behavior -- some planned, some the product of sudden events. So, when viewing" The Case of" I had no dog in the fight. Many years ago I bought a used paperback on the subject (the Larry Schiller book), but read less than half before losing interest. @Snookums - I see my long post above. Perhaps you looked for it while I was finger typing editing. Thanks for the comments and links. I don't think that anyone involved could be called a 'sociopath.' Rather, a horrific situation could have caused people to panic and behave in ways they otherwise wouldn't. Sometimes character that appears wholesome or virtuous can be lacking or unable to hold up against a sudden threat to a person's fundamental security. A churchgoer or preacher may not be who they appear to be. I could site some examples. People with no history of violence or bad or criminal behavior can and do commit crimes. I've seen no evidence that anyone was "paid off." It is not unheard of that people with money or social status get deferred to or are treated as special. No cash need be exchanged. OJ Simpson was treated "carefully." @Cynic - yes, even rich young men in crew neck sweaters can exhibit bad behavior. Things cannot be expected to add up when a combination of entities and misdirection, sloppy or hindered investigations, lies and influence get into the mix in heavy doses. It takes careful digging by qualified objective experts to thoughtfully sift through the debris field. It helps if they have unfettered access and cooperation. @arkansas girl -- a trial does not necessarily mean that only truth and solid, untainted 'facts' will be presented or secure that truth be revealed and the truly culpable will be found guilty. Unfortunately, people sometimes do lie and mislead under oath, experts have been known to not be particularly expert, to exaggerate and perhaps even lie. Innocent people get convicted and sent to prison or death row. Or the truly guilty are found "not guilty." False "evidence" can be (and is sometimes) admitted as evidence in a trial as well as into an investigation. Or evidence may be incomplete, manufactured, or (surprise) not completely understood, even by experts, or ignored. A partial fingerprint in a London ? train bombing lead to a completely innocent man being held under suspicions s taken into custody. Experts had never seen (they reported) a case where a partial fingerprint matched to more than one person. Remember the OJ Simpson trial - a huge "political" mess. I suspect the real killer got away with two murders. I strongly suspect that if the watchcap hat was tested today, they would find OJ's DNA on or inside of it. Unfortunately a trial does not guaranty anything. I support science-based evidence, but science can be misunderstood, processes can be faulty, scientific finding can be ignored.

Oh Eileen, you must be thankful you are still alive after eating there. I was gagging when they showed the inside of the walk in cooler.

I have watched most of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, most of which are in the UK so I watched his new show last night too. I enjoyed it, but I did find the transformation of "Peter" unbelieveable. The guy was such a buffoon.

Although I like Hell's Kitchen, I purposely didn't watch this show. I was turned off by the accusations of sabotage for the sake of the show, in a law suit filed by an Indian restuarant. Made it all seem too contrived for my liking.

I watched it too..There were way more bleeps lastnight..that Peter fella...could put Gordon's FU's into a nursery rhyme. LOL

I'm sure that show was taped 6-8 months ago..
Did you ever notice a change in the venue Eileen?

As far as out of Bacardi...Peter probably used it up!

I watched and I don't want to spoil it for anyone that has it taped but I agree with Ann T & terri. Lord, that walk in cooler was awful. If I had known that I had eaten there, I would have died after seeing this. Peter more then likely did drink up that Bacardi along w/being behind on bills.

You know, I really got the feeling that a lot of it was... contrived... for camera. The whole deal with the quasi-mafioso "bill collector" coming around for his due...

Is Peter really that much of a jerk in real life?

I personally cannot believe Peter could go from a "big baby" to a reasonable adult that quick, unless someone explained to him that if the restaurant closed the gravy train would close too. I thought it was interesting to watch after having watched all the shows in the British version. I think I will probably prefer the British version, I almost felt sorry for Chef Ramsey, Peter swore him under the table!

I read an interview with Ramsey about the lawsuit, I'm not really surprised by it. There are a lot of lawsuit happy people here and plenty of unscrupulous lawyers willing to help them make a fast buck. It seems to me if he was fired, it had to be the owner who fired him. If a waitress losses her job because she does not do her job properly, does she get to sue all the patrons who complained about her lousy service? A general manager's job is to oversee everything that goes on in a restaurant and keep it operating profitably. Obviously this was not happening.

Having work in kitchens, I doubt anyone needs to sabotage a kitchen at a troubled restaurant to make it look bad, most people would hate to see a restaurant kitchen mid service! And I have personally seen bill collectors (and bookies) show up at restaurants, and if they could not get in thru the kitchen door, they did waltz right in the front.

We met him several times...he is very full of himself acts as if he is too good for his patrons...hes a Joey wannabe imo...but everyone else is so nice and like I said the food and service is great they even have a Italian old man who walks around and sings old time songs its really a nice atmosphere...we were very shocked...but definately not at Peter who like I said wouldnt no us from a hole in the wall because thats how much of a jerk he is! That said...I havent been there to try the new cusine...they uised to have awesome steaks its a very small restaurant.

They don't bleep out any of the f words here - the Dutch use a lot of American and British shows/movies and add their own subtitles. Radio, too - a lot of American music without the bleeps LOL!

I'm not a Gordon Ramsey fan. Not so much because of his language, I just think he's a jerk.

Honestly when we go there 90% of there entree are between $12-$17 dollars
