Best Place to Buy LG? Did you get a deal?

I'd like to buy a stackable LG washer/dryer. I also wouldn't mind saving a little on the price tag. Anyone found any great resources for making this big ticket purchase? :)

I went to Best Buy and got a 10% discount with free delivery. PG&E will give you a $75 rebate with the purchase of some of the LG models as well.

I have a house full of LG appliances, some purchased at Home Depot and some purchased at Best Buy. It all depended on which company had the best offer at the time I was buying. My last purchase came from Home Depot. They were offering 10% off with Home Depot Credit card, free delivery (via rebate) and a $75 rebate for purchasing an Energy Star model. I have already received all my rebates and my purchase was in mid June. I was also given an extra $50 back as an apology for horrible service by the delivery company, so all in all I got a good deal. My fridge came from Best Buy with free delivery and $100 LG model rebate. You just have to do some research.

I got quotes from 3 of the major players in my area. Plus I simply asked them why I should buy there. I also wanted to know return policy, 30 days 0% restock was appealing. Once I asked for a quote on everything I was surprised the discounts on KA or JennAir where 25% and 20%. All stores quoted prices close enough it really came down to policies. My fav has a large repair department that fixes anything. A small dealer showed me that while Miele has UMRP their price book has 3 prices, a MAP, and a Min Price that was about 6% to 7% off. So they can sell for less, but not like 20% to 25% off. The lowest prices are had buying floor models and returns. That can take a lot of time depending on what you are looking for, it might become a weekly pursuit. Many larger chains have a location for all that stuff, get the word to someone there abut what you are looking for. I did a complete remodel so I wanted to buy new. It concerns me to know my appliance had its door opened and possibly abused, its buttons hammered, etc, by 1000's of adults and children. I am hard on floor models because I want to know if they feel solidly put together before I buy them. I work the handles, racks, etc, hard to know they feel solid.

I'm posting on the general subject of using a fridge before kitchen remodel starts, and not on the specifics of this model. I bought an LG when Best Buy had a particularly good sale and began using it as soon as it was delivered, even though the remodel didn't start for 5 weeks. I had them just plug it in without ice/water hookups as a temporary measure, and keep the plastic film that protects the stainless finish. I'm using the little trays to make ice as a temporary measure. I absolutely loathed my 1980s fridge and was very anxious to have it hauled away. My electricity bill dropped 20%! I already love the fridge and it's one oasis of calm in the chaos of a kitchen remodel! It's been moved around a bit during the remodel, and once it was accidentally plugged into a non-working outlet (no disaster though). So using the fridge before the remodel is doable, especially if you're willing to live without the ice/water features.

Another vote for the local Habitat for Humanity store!! In our area it's called Builder's Bargains. We scored nine (yes, nine!) older solid wood, clear fir interior doors, complete with hinges and doorknobs for $50 each! We couldn't touch these at our local lumber yard for under $300, and then we would still need to purchase the hardware. We have also gotten our shower fixtures there and some great tile. Our store constantly has contractors swinging by to drop off their excess supplies. I have seen brand new windows, sinks, some beautiful lighting fixtures, paint...you name it and they will eventually have it! Our particular store has a wish list that you can put your name on and if that particular item comes in they will give you a call and give you first "dibs" on it. That's how we landed the doors. We have also lucked into some great stuff through our local Freecycle group.....all free! A couple of the best things that we have found here were four full light, fir framed doors (new, never installed!) and a huge old oak fireplace surround (needs elbow grease, but beautiful!). I think that if you stay flexible and open-minded that you can find all sorts of great things for your build! You also need to love to shop.....alot! hee hee! Shopping like this has allowed us to flex our budget on others things, which has been great. Good luck to you!

Just go the LG website and click on support at the top of the page. Then click on Serice Center under the LG Service topic. Put your zip code in the box and pick "refrigerators" from the pull down menu. I was able to find 3 local service centers in about 2 minutes. The internet is a wonderful thing. :) I don't expect big box stores to service appliances unless I bought a service contract from them. Even then, they just farm it out and the best they will do is give you the number of the place that takes care of thier service contracts. Whether they have good service contracts or good companies to back them up is another matter. None are capable of appliance or TV repairs, HD, Lowes, Circut City or any other type of large store except Sears. When I needed service for my whirlpool Refrig. I called whirlpool. They gave me the names of local authorized service centers. Keep your warantee info for large purchases, including owners manuals. They always have numbers to call for service and warantee information. If you don't have those things just a do search for the manufacturers website and you will almost always find info t there, also. Hope it gets fixed soon. The LG steamwasher looks so appealing; are you all happy with yours? Is there a dryer you'd recommend (we'd use a gas dryer)?

Curious about the LG Steam and dryer also, are these worth the big dollars? Just how well can fine fabrics be refreshed? Will the steam cycles refresh a soiled wool suit( for example ) to remove drycleaning smell? Will the Steam set stains? I wish there were plaaces we could experence the machine working in person to "know" what it will and will not do.
Also shopping in the bay area and exhausted from researching product and price, and not confident I have all the facts no matter how long I work at this........and I really hate my line dried towels after years of fluffy soft ones!
