Thanks Diane. I saved the picture. I loved the table centres and I was really trying to take in as much as possible when watching the luncheon room on TV. I could be wrong but as beautiful as they were, I thought they were a little tall, and may have blocked people's vision, but they may have only appeared that way. In comparison, I did think the scale looked good on the large round tables and they made grand statement. I too am glad that they actually mentioned the names of the roses that were used. I'm a long-time admirer of Pete Seeger too, and have been a member of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater organization for years. The member sails were a great experience (no, Pete Seeger wasn't on the boat and I never met him). Did you know that there's a movement to nominate Pete Seeger for a Nobel Peace Prize? Speaking about the speed of the internet, I read yesterday about how Obama used a shaka hand sign to acknowledge his high school band. I'd never heard of this, so of course I googled it. The Wikipedia entry for "Shaka sign" had already been updated to include Obama's use of it. I just checked again, and it now includes a photo as well (see the footnote). Claire

I amazed myself and managed to get them all correct. But there was also some lucky guesswork involved. I was just reading on the Garden Web Bath forum where someone referenced Mamie's Pepto Bismol pink inaugural gown and that dress apparently had a huge influence on the color of products sold in the following years. Which of course explains the pink stove, sink and refrigerator in my first apartment and all of those pink bathrooms which were installed.
