Comments (43)What Mini-Splits Look Like in Your Home what do these systems look like in your home, you ask? https://www.ductless-mini-split-air-conditioner.org/ Indoor Here are a couple of pictures of “indoor units” installed in customer homes. As you can see, the indoor unit is mounted near the ceiling. mini split in home mini split home stock Inside the unit is a fan and a set of self-adjusting louvers. The louvers can be configured by the remote control to sweep back and forth and up and down, or point the cool air in a specific direction or directions. The louver directions are easily set with the remote control. We love our mini-splits because they are quieter than the industrial-strength fans we used to have, and they provide near instantaneous cooling. When the unit is off, the louvers close, making the unit look even sleeker. In this photo, the louvers are closed almost all the way: indoor unit closed The indoor unit is connected to the outdoor unit by two insulated refrigerant pipes and a power line. We only have to drill a 3″ hole through the wall to run the pipes and wire. And, of course, the hole is behind the indoor unit and made weather tight from the outside....See MoreGallery Update - Laundry and Mud Rooms
Comments (5)Thanks Emagineer, you're always so sweet. I do try to put little extras in the threads, like good organizing ideas, and little vignettes where appropriate. I'm always interested in those myself. Rosesstink, you're welcome! I'm redoing mine too, because of the flood. MORAL OF THE STORY: If you haven't replaced the hot and cold intake hoses behind your washing machine in the last five years, do it! They're under constant pressure and when they get old they can blow. Not the sort of thing I ever thought about before. $20 for a package of new hoses. $500 deductible to me, and thousands to the insurance company to repair the damage to my laundry room, sewing room, and garage. Plus workmen tromping in and out day after day....See MoreLaundry Room
Comments (16)I am LOVING this forum and the great advice. Thanks for asking oceanna! I have gotten some great ideas and a boost in confidence for making the changes I want. I am going to paint the walls a calm, cheery soft green and I have ordered a really cute white bench to put right by the entry: It's got baskets underneath and a white and red ticking fabric cushion for the top. I will find a close but safe place for the extinguisher (maybe right by inside the closet) and take out that paper towel holder and get something else that matches the new cabinet pulls I will get. I want to find something whimsical for the pulls and lighting. I am going to find some fabric that pulls from the red and white ticking but doesn't match. I am also going to get a red distressed pull out hamper from homedecorators.com: I am going to order some art I saw that looks like this: And I have always loved this one: I might go with black or nickel fixtures. I like a touch of black mixed in for contrast. With the trim painted out white and a new rug on the floor, it should really look welcoming. I am still figuring everything out so I am open to ideas! Thanks and Happy Holidays everyone!...See MoreDo you have a MUDROOM?
Comments (27)Boy, some of your mudrooms make me drool with envy! Here's a photo of ours. It had been a mudroom/laundry combination, but was too small to function effectively as both. So I moved the laundry to our unfinished full basement (good for something!) and dedicated the space to a single use. It's no more than 6x8, and connects the garage to the rest of the house. There are only two of us. We have a pair of open cubes to stow briefcases and handbags. Some organizational cubbies for papers, bills, keys. Some open shelving for shoes. A sink. An outlet so we can have a charging station for phones, Blackberries, Kindles, etc. On the opposite wall (not visible), I have beadboard going up about 6 feet, with a row of hooks at the top for coats (there is also a separate coat closet just inside the house) ... we do have a coat problem (i.e. too many, but still never enough...). When I have a big party, I use the room as a butler's pantry or beverage center. (Some of the cabinets hold placemats, napkins, etc.)....See Morefairytalebaby
