One big boiler, or a twinned pair?

Hello!

We are installing a heating system for a sizable 2-family house. We have an option of getting a single big boiler (McLain's UG-230) or a pair of smaller ones (McLain's UG-105) twinned together.

The dual-boiler option is about 35% more expensive does the extra expense justify the reduced risk of the single boiler breaking down?

Or are we being too paranoid? Another option would be to get a backup electric boiler  this would protect us from interruptions in gas-delivery as well as the gas boiler breakdown.

What's the prevailing opinion? Which electric boiler would you pick for backup? It does not have to be efficient  as it will almost never be used  but cheap to procure and install. Thanks!
