Does everyone hate front load washers/dryers or is it just me?
Comments (255)@Chris Powchuk I don't agree with that at all. I had an Electrolux front load. Crappy machine. Bio-stink built up on clothing. You would think after running a 2 hour cycle with warm water, on heavy cycle with extra rinses would result in clean clothing. Nope. The machine was also clean as a whistle inside and out. I kicked that machine to the curb and got an LG. Much better machine. Clean clothes and clean smelling clothes. So I do not believe they are all built the same or operate the same. I used to dry the boot and leave the door open on my Electrolux. Never any mold. I have gotten lazy with my LG and do not dry the boot but do leave the door open and again no mold. I run affresh on the tub clean cycle every now and then and that's about it. And top loads are not exempt from mold. I had a Fisher and Paykel top load at my previous house. That machine built up mold all around the outside of the tub where you couldn't see it but boy could you smell it. We had to take the whole tub out and drag it into our shower to clean it....See MoreDo you love your stacked washer/dryer?
Comments (14)When we bought our current house, it was shown floor-standing washer and dryer in an alcove by the back door to the back deck. PO took her appliances with her. The alcove was big enough for just 2 items. But there was no utility sink anywhere in the house. Obvious solution--a stacked w & d would give me space to have a sink installed. I LOVE the stacked unit. I'm 5'6" and don't find the washer too low, or the dryer too high. And the fact that in my case they're convenient to the line I have strung on the deck is a huge plus. Having moved from a house where the laundryroom was in the basement, and the bedrooms on the second floor, I discovered something. I LOVE doing laundry--what I hated about it in the other house was the constant lugging loads up and down several flights of stairs. If a stacked pair works for you, it can be a real space saver. I have a suggestion--if you have a friend with a stacked set, why not ask if you could come over and do a couple of loads, just to get the feel of it. And DO make sure you get all the specs before committing to buying the set. You have to have the right outlets in the right places--and if needed, it's better to have the electrical work done before the set's delivered (they didn't tell me the dryer only came with a 4' cord when I bought--so my poor electrician had to work around the already delivered washer and dryer to move the outlet up about 6 feet from where it had been previously....See MoreDo pedestals add vibration? Love/hate pedestals?
Comments (4)Pedestals do not "add" vibration. However, they certainly can amplify it if it exists. May require more careful attention to equalization of foot-loading of the machine than you're accustomed to. And installers are notoriously deficient in doing this because it takes more time than they're willing to spend. It's not all that difficult, but I doubt your installer will be willing to do it. Concrete floor install-sites are always best but MANY folks have suspended-floor installations that work fine. Suspended floor plus pedestal would have the highest likelihood of giving trouble. Do you have vibration issues with current set-up? These situations are very difficult to predict in advance. Too many variables. You may be fine or you may have issues. If you have issues you may find them easy to resolve or you may find them impossible to resolve. I encourage you to describe your concerns to the vendor before purchase and have an agreement that will allow you to exchange your chosen machine for another if you encounter an unresolvable situation. Not intending to obfuscate. In your situation, I would go ahead and do what you intend with the expectation that things will be OK or can be made OK. If it doesn't work, I'd shift gears and do something else....See MoreTop load washer but raise just the dryer on a pedestal
