Your Bosh Axxis dryer comes from the manufacturer without a power cord. If yours was delivered with a cord, then the dealer installed it. You need to contact the dealer and advise them that your dryer arrived with a a 4-prong connecter, but that your house has the older style 3-prong outlet. Most dealers will provide the appliance with whichever connecter is appropriate. If your dealer won't change it, then you can easily do this yourself by going to your local home center or hardware store and buying a properly rated 3-prong cord which will cost $12 to $15. The instructions for installing it on your dryer are on pages 8 & 9 of your owner's manual, complete with very clear illustrations. The dryer can be installed with either type of plug, unless you're in a mobile home or your local electrical code doesn't allow grounding through the neutral (which is what's done using a 3-prong connecter). Incidently, if you had an electrician out to run an entirely new circuit for a dryer, he should have installed a 4-conductor cable from the breaker panel and a 4-pronged outlet. The old 3-pronged outlets are out of date (but still legal if already in place), however new installations must be installed using 4 conductors.

Hmmmm. My Duet dryer is almost six years old. That clicking sound is something electrical. From all the reading I have done usually what goes out in a Duet dryer is the thermistor....But I'm not sure if that causes the dryer to actually not start or just not heat. Slight correction: Gas dryers (which operate on standard 110 volts) do include an attached power cord. Electric dryers (220 volts) do not. So, I assume the OP ordered an electric dryer. :-) Yes, you can swap the cord, assuming it's in good physical condition. Dryer cords (30 amp) come in either 3-prong or 4-prong configurations. Many local electric codes now require 4-prong cords, although existing homes may have 3-prong outlets and dryers installed with 3-prong cords and not been updated.

ronnatalie...I don't think there is a ground (or ground wire) in the 3 wire run from panel to dryer. It's the old flexible metal type of casing around the 3 wires (2 lines, one neutral). The block on the dryer electrical connection is grounded to the dryer cabinet. weedmeister...I'm very sure Miele is already wired with a 4 wire cord and you can't make any modifications. I e-mailed them and they got back to me within hours (great service). They said and I quote: "Thank you for your interest in Miele products. It is NOT recommended that the appliance be hard wired and that the plug provided be altered or changed in any way. Please follow the electrical specifications that state the following: This appliance must be grounded. In the event of malfunction or breakdown, grounding will reduce the risk of electric shock by providing a path of least resistance for electric current.
