Do your 100% Cotton Sheets Cause You To Sweat?
Comments (19)Something else to consider other than just the sheets are the different types of mattresses and mattress pads you cover your mattress with, as well as the weave and fiber content of any blankets you top your sheets with. They have as great a cause and effect on sleeping comfort as do the sheets. We have a memory foam mattress and it holds your body heat really well, which is nice in the winter along with flannel sheets (we don't heat our bedroom) but that warming has the opposite effect in the summer. In the spring we add a mattress pad and sheets from coolingmattress.com and the wicking technology helps keep you cool. When you sweat (and the average person loses about 10% of their water in the form of sweat while sleeping - and people who sweat profusely, even more), the material in the sheets wick the moisture which will make you feel cooler. We use a comforter from the same company in the fall/winter because it helps regulate the temperature - you get neither too cold nor too warm. We like it a lot more than the down-filled comforter we used before getting the comforter from this company. A bit extreme, but we also have "Summer Survival Mats" we can use. They are gel-filled mats that act as a buffer between your body and the mattress to absorb your body heat. Great for that time of the year before you turn the air conditioner on, for camping, or a way to cool down fast without air conditioning. You can watch a video about these mats at cooldownfast.com, along with more information about how they work. -Grainlady...See MoreDo you iron your bed sheets?
Comments (68)I iron my top sheets and pillow cases. Any wrinkles in the fitted bottom sheet come out when you put it on the bed. I have tried to buy iron-free sheets but they are usually sateen sheets and even though they are 100% cotton, my husband and I don't like the feel of them. We like crisp, fairly heavy sheets and they are hard to find, especially if one's on a budget. I have one perfect set and 3 other not so perfect sets in addition to sets that have gone to Goodwill because we hated them....See MoreHow do you get rid of elm tree seedlings in your beds?
Comments (3)I wait for an "after rainy day" and start pulling by hand. If not possible, I have a small shovel. If not possible, I mark it with colored tape and next time I have help, I cut it as short as possible and dab brush killer poison on the cut, while the other person holds nearby growth out of the way so I don't accidentally kill it while trying to kill unwanted. Some years are worse than others and in Spring 2015 I'm waging a brutal war against elms, oaks, etc....See MoreBest sheets for a bed with an adjustable base?
Comments (6)I'm surprised to see this topic again! Thanks for all the suggestions. I bought several of the Wamsutta Pimacott sheets, even a couple of extra fitted sheets to use with top sheets/pillowcases from sets I had previously. I do not understand the newer mattresses being so deep! Even with a bed that is not adjustable, many mattresses now sit on an upholstered base. Another thing we started noticing is the mattress wants to slip a bit on the base. I seemed to be forever pushing one corner over a bit. I ordered a mattress thing that is like a rug pad. It lays between the mattress and the base. And Terri, I also got some of those straps too as even though the wamsutta sheets fit good, sometimes after we've had the head up and then lower, the sheet wants to slip. The strap holders do work. Thank you all and I hope these tidbits help any others looking at mattresses/beds....See Morejoannetepper
