Do you sweat way too much??
Comments (41)I sweat way too much but that's because it's hot and humid here. Stepping out into our sun is like walking into a blow torch. I've got to quit gardening between noon and 6PM, but I'm a night owl, too, and don't rise early. I remember last year I was on the west side of the house in the afternoon, and the heat was unbearable. (I get red in the face, too, and people get worried.) I went in the house, got several ice cubes, wrapped a dish towel around them longways, put the ice cubes at the back of my neck and pinned the towel pretty tight at the front of my neck. I was afraid I would suffocate with the cloth so high around my neck but no. It was wonderful. No sweating, no heat. I was perfectly comfortable even though I was out in the same hot sun. When the ice melted, I was sweating again. The ice must have been cooling the blood to my brain and elsewhere. At first it was too cold and then it wasn't. So glad for this thread. It'll be hot tomorrow, and I had forgotten this. I always thought female gardeners should look like Martha Stewart - and then there was me. I can't wear tank tops because I need the sleeves on the t-shirt to wipe my sweaty face since my hands are covered with latex-dipped gloves (typically manure coated) that add to the heat. (Talk about stink! Those gloves get really bad.) Sweating is bad, but muck under my fingernails is a horror! Gardening is a totally embarrassing experience since I live in-town with close neighbors and I garden in my front yard a lot. But I guess I'm past the embarrassment. My shirt is soaked. My shorts are soaked. It's disgusting. I drink GatorAde while I'm out there. I find that I recuperate faster than with plain water. It's been a joy reading the posts of all you sweaty ladies. Truly a joy! To show you how huge sweat is in my gardening life, get a load of the title of my blog. Comments (8)Thanks for the help, all... No, not mixing ammonia and bleach, which produces mustard gas. Always worth mentioning, in case anyone doesn't know. Ammonia is supposed to be the best choice for sweat stains, didn't work this time. How much do I sweat? Dunno, pretty hard to quantify. This is a Select Comfort [sleep number] bed with 'Outlast' top and pad. Outlast is a special fiber that is supposed to absorb excess body heat, release it when you start to cool. Love the bed, but I think my comforter was just too thick. Had this happen to a much lesser degree when I got my first memory foam mattress, and those sheets were a cotton sateen, too. Tried the Oxyclean, no luck. Not on any supplements just now, they got lost in the move, haven't re-developed the habit. But the cold pre-wash is a good idea, will remember it. I really think the color of the fabric is changed. It doesn't look like the old color is under there, with an overlay of staining. They've actually changed, gone from a nice golden tan with subtle pinstripe to orange. Current plan: bleach them, try to dye them a uniform color [Is this possible with a front load?]. Nothing to loose at this point: these are Select Comfort's store brand of sheet, can go for $350/set. Got them on closeout [thank heavens!] but still. Thanks again......See MoreOT ; Do you iron your sheets?
Comments (88)This thread brought me out of lurkdom, lol! I've starched and ironed my topsheet (most of it) and pillow cases for years. I iron while watching t.v. and, for me, is worth the time and effort. There's nothing, absolutely nothing, better than climbing into a bed w/a great mattress, wonderful bedding, good quality starched and ironed sheets. For me this began while living overseas. A friend of mine hated that her DH traveled so much. She'd keep a set of starched and ironed sheets, done at the dry cleaners, on hand and put them on the bed the day her DH would leave. She said she'd pamper herself w/the sheets, a good book, candles, etc. to make that first evening a little easier. The idea of the starched and ironed sheets really struck a chord w/me and I've been doing it ever since. Complete luxury for very little time (no, it really doesn't take long) or $$$!...See MoreStores to find 100% cotton sleeveless shirts? Not online
Comments (42)Stopped into a Marshall's on my way to the library today. I hadn't even know it was there. Went through EVERYTHING because I didn't want to miss something. My conclusions: everything commonly available in cotton is either white or blue. Wait! There's a third color! White with blue stripes. I don't normally wear either color. This has been true in every store I've visited, not just Marshall's. I did end up buying a white linen shirt with embroidery at the neckline. It was only $10 on clearance (slightly damaged, but I can fix it easily) . I will wear it a few times and see if I can stand to wear a color that will be filthy by the end of the first day. I can always tea dye it. Probably will. Marshalls had, it seemed, almost everything on clearance. Must be between seasons. But henceforth I will think of that store as the Home of Rayon. I'm sure I would not have noticed that before, if I hadn't been ferreting inside every shirt for the fiber content tag. Wait Wait! I did buy some all-cotton shorty pajamas. They are blue and white. Striped. But I don't have to choose jewelry to match them, and I won't worry about them making my skin look green while I am sleeping. Then I stopped off at a Talbots (which I also didn't know was there) and bought the shirt Lucy mentioned above. The cut is very flattering, with a yoke front and back. The nicest cut of anything I've found so far. Tassel-Tie Chambray Popover Shirt Which is blue. With white embroidery. I asked them to help me find anything else in a sleeveless natural fiber. I was the only one in there, so the 2 staff ladies quite got into the challenge. I tried on the 4 other items, 3 of which were blue, white, or blue and white. The remaining shirt was white with orange embroidery. Sigh. I didn't buy anything else. So far I have not bought anything in any other color. But the Nordstrom order arrives tomorrow....See Moreemma
