Why wash in cold water?
Comments (3)I typically never use cold water, unless I am washing something of dark black or blue. I have a pair of black jeans and these get washed in cold. Even then I don't wash it in tap cold water I use a temp of about 85F. The only other time I use cold water is if the fabric contains a lot of spandex or polyester that is being used to keep it tight or to secure it. Other than that most of my loads are done at 105F or 120F and an occasional 140F if whites are very dirty....See MoreSpot Clean Only? Did you wash?
Comments (5)I think that it would be fine to wash them on delicate. You might want to hang them to dry though, so they don't shrink. You might have to iron them after that though! We just bought new throw pillows for our living room, and I was having the hardest time finding removable covers that were washable. We have two little boys and a dog, so it MUST be washable! ;-) I ended up finding pillows at Tuesday Morning. They are really decorative pillows that go with a bedding set, but they look great in our living room! I bought some solid color pillows with a machine washable cover from Bed Bath and Beyond to go with them - they also came from the bedding department!...See MoreOk to only use cold water hookup on washing machine?
Comments (12)thanks for the advice, after i found water under the washer while in the laundry room i removed the washer to outside and after looking inside ( after removing the front panel ) for a couple of days and not finding a water leak i put back together and moved back into laundry room and started using, it still leaked, it wasnt a visible leak outside while working on it because i never thought to look in the back of washer to actually see the water escaping from hot water side, so after finding it was leaking from valve hot water side i attatched hose to hot water port hoping that would keep the water escaping from the hot water side, i knew the valve went bad i just thought keeping water in an enclosed system by attatching hose to both ports would stop the leak, it didnt work, the water found its way from the valve itself since the hoses were keeping pressure inside , but again, the water found its way to leak, so, i ordered a new valve, it came in and it was the cheapest valve i could buy on amazon, 10 bucks, it leaked a dribble when put on and started, i began to think i got what i paid for and am returning valve for a more expensive brand, AND the cold and hot water ports are not joined or combined inside the valve in any way , two different ports with two different solenoids , i will update when i get that on, the photos of the washer drum above are horrible, it looks like well water or near a beach where water is not greatly filtered, our washer is old, 2000 model GE profile, and has always used on cold only, but ours is as clean as the day we bought it honestly. i dont know why, i dont do the laundry i just fix things that break , i can do laundry :) i rarely do, i think my mother said hot water can fade or make colors " bleed " making the whole load the same color ? i have no idea, i just dont want to have to replace the flooring in the laundry room so the washer has been moved outside on back porch again until new valve arrives, i was wondering if Jeff had any luck or ideas that i had not considered, i didnt think this 5 year old thread would still be active, i am very pleased it is, thank you....See MoreCold Water Washes/Tide Coldwater Anyone? Comments (25)Some of the problems with cold water people out there in the world is they see stains disappear using cool or tempered cold..many stains will be shifted..so they think Great cold water really does clean my clothes. I don't think many in the world give a thought to body oils. Weve had people come in here asking why their sheets and pillowcases have turned yellow, remember the person that was going out to buy multi colored sheets in order to hide the yellow? As for smell, a fox may smell his own hole first but humans don't, check out the laundramats those people throw handfuls of dryer sheets in the dryer and dump the FS in the washer, WHY, they want their clothes to smell clean..there's two reasons for this either they associate perfumed clothing to clean, which many do, including some people here, or they are covering something up..I think much of the time its both. cold water will not clean your textiles, just because it removed a stain does not mean the clothes are clean. Body oils come out easily in hot water but if washed in cold will build up in the fibers turning to wax...melt a candle on a garment than wash ut in cold..wash it in hot and you begin to see it melt..you all know this but someone new may not. Our mothers and grandmothers did not wash in cold, they knew more than many people out there that was a poor laundry practice....there are a lot of people, intelligent people that someone has convinced use a coldwater detergent and your clothes will be clean and your saving energy....and on top of it there's no mention of how they are damaging their machines. No I don't wash in cold or even cool, I don't care what someone else does..I value clean clothes. You had to get me started on cold water..lol...See Morecryptandrus
