wash machine water
Comments (1)Soapy water is not a problem with most plants (citrus is an exception). Read the label of the detergent you use and watch for heavy metals. Remember that soapy water is used as a green form of insect control (aphids). If possible I would move the watering spot around so you are not dumping soapy water over and over in the same spot. You don't want to dump hot water straight into the garden so when washing whites you would switch to the sewage system or have a catch barrel that would slow down the water long enough to allow for cooling. You don't need to change out the hose if install a divertor in the drain line. Then its just a matter of turning a knob. Easy thing to install if you have pvc drain lines ... cast iron is much more of a pain and likely not worth the effort of installing a divertor. If you have cast iron you will need to move that washer drain hose after all ;o) Mike...See MoreFinal Decision: Miele DW - hot or cold water hookup?
Comments (13)I think many cycles on my DW use about 4.2 gallons of water or less depending on soil and load size but the DW can use more if the soil level is high but no more than 6 gallons. I connect mine to hot water, however my DW is not close to the water heater so the actual water is not all that hot, but better than the 38F degree water that comes out of the cold water line in the winter. I don't wash fine china in the DW so don't really care about dish damage, but even if I did because of my situation I can still get a cooler fill for that cycle. So it depends on your situation. If I cared about the china crystal thing ALOT then I would go with the cold water supply. Since I don't I opt for the hot water supply which helps speed up the cycle a little. I have seen times where there is a temp delay using a hot fill (you can tell if the time remaining count down stops and holds the same time) The delay has never been more than 3 minutes and then the time countdown will resume, however this will only happen if there is some different unexpected condition because each time you run a cycle the DW will take the time it took to heat the water into consideration so that the next time you run that cycle the initial cycle time will already include the time it took to heat the water the last few times you ran that cycle. Anyway it depends on your situation. For me no worries about china/crystal = hot water fill....See MoreCold Water Washes/Tide Coldwater Anyone? Don't be a hater
Comments (25)Some of the problems with cold water people out there in the world is they see stains disappear using cool or tempered cold..many stains will be shifted..so they think Great cold water really does clean my clothes. I don't think many in the world give a thought to body oils. Weve had people come in here asking why their sheets and pillowcases have turned yellow, remember the person that was going out to buy multi colored sheets in order to hide the yellow? As for smell, a fox may smell his own hole first but humans don't, check out the laundramats those people throw handfuls of dryer sheets in the dryer and dump the FS in the washer, WHY, they want their clothes to smell clean..there's two reasons for this either they associate perfumed clothing to clean, which many do, including some people here, or they are covering something up..I think much of the time its both. cold water will not clean your textiles, just because it removed a stain does not mean the clothes are clean. Body oils come out easily in hot water but if washed in cold will build up in the fibers turning to wax...melt a candle on a garment than wash ut in cold..wash it in hot and you begin to see it melt..you all know this but someone new may not. Our mothers and grandmothers did not wash in cold, they knew more than many people out there that was a poor laundry practice....there are a lot of people, intelligent people that someone has convinced use a coldwater detergent and your clothes will be clean and your saving energy....and on top of it there's no mention of how they are damaging their machines. No I don't wash in cold or even cool, I don't care what someone else does..I value clean clothes. You had to get me started on cold water..lol...See MoreWater to washing machine - I really need advice
Comments (21)1. washer worked perfectly 2, Handy man turned off all water in the house. 3.Handyman changed gaskets on the outside spigot 4. Turned water back on to the whole house 5. Went to wash clothes and the hot water worked for awhile (5-10 minutes) the just stops. 6. Cold water rarely would fill at all. 7. Tried the washer many times but no luck 8. Handy man got the flood hoses and put on machine 9. Tried more times to wash clothes but water would fill for a few minutes and stop. The hot water would almost always come on for awhile. The only way the cold water would come on is if it was turned on VERY slowly and sometimes not even then. 10. Checked water at spigot - water comes out fine. Checked water from spigot to unattached washing machine end. Water came out perfectly. 11. Today, replaced flood hoses and put on the Eastman hose. Every single thing concerning water remains the same. 12. I have never, in the past, turned water on and off when doing laundry. It think that covers it. We did all of the GE testing ideas from Sammy above, All results are listed above....See Morecandler
