Did I miss something, or didn't Lori tell us about Las Vegas?

Lori, how was Vegas? Is their airport as annoying as Salt Lake City's?

Did you win any money?

Vegas was great!
Considering we don't drink (much) or gamble (much) we had a fine old time.

The airport bars in Nevada are better than in Utah.
Of course, the weather was better in Vegas than at home too.

One Homeland Security woman at McCarren in Vegas was having a bad day and yelled at Custer for being so slow. She said if he didn't hurry up she'd search his bag and make him miss his flight. The rest of the HLS crew were very nice and more than made up for her behavior.

We did a lot of shopping at the trade shows. Custer got a new and much needed saddle. I found two pairs of beautiful silver earrings and a very handsome purse. The kids, of course, fare well too. I love to shop at the cowboy trade shows and get new western Christmas ornaments.

We had some very good meals at the Flamingo Hilton and Mandalay Bay.

We gave ourselves fifty dollars each to gamble one afternoon. Custer hit the twenty one tables and I cruised through the poker machines until I found one that liked me. We both played for a couple of hours. Custer lost all his money and I cashed out my fifty plus a profit of a $1.25.
A well spent two hours I say.

The seats we got to the rodeo were perfect and we enjoyed it so much!

The trip was short (two nights and not quite three days) but we saw all we wanted and did all wanted. Not bad for a trip
we didn't know we were going to take until five days before we left!
LOL

Thanks for asking.

Wantonamara = Mara ? LOL...Yep. I am highly questionable. I am also very bad with remembering names in real life and not very organized like y'all with your list. Whoa , I am impressed . I usually callpeople by their handles because I never know who is sensitive about having their name displayed online. I have irritated a fiend by posting her by his name and he did not like it so I go by that rule usually unless it has been in common usage.

I don't remember ever getting an actual spanking, I am sure when I was really young I did get them just don't recall it. I would get sent to the corner however. I had gone shopping with my mom and big sister in the BIG city (we were from a very small town), they were looking for a special dress for my sister for some event. Well I was so tired of being dragged around that I crawled up under one of the round dress displays (it had a floor to it) and just fell asleep. My mom finally noticed I was not right there and went into panic mode, they searched and then started hollering then the store workers got into the act. I never heard a thing I was so insulated in my little nap spot sleeping soundly. Someone finally saw my little shoe poking out from under the dresses. My mom was about to have a stroke by then. She screamed at me then nearly hugged the stuffing out of me. I tell you one thing I never did that again. Another time I got a talking to was when mom came out on to the front porch and looked at me and my dog and said what are you eating? Well it was a box of doggie treats, but I was sharing with my dog!! I thought they were regular cookies! My dog really loved my cookies LOL I thought they were a bit dry myself. Now this one not so much did I get in trouble as did my 2 much older sisters! Our house was just down the road from my grandparents so we would walk or ride bikes back and forth. There was a huge barn at my grandparents with a hay loft and a big opening on one end to load the hay in and out of with a rope dohickey out of it to raise and lower the hay. We did not know it but my mother could see that barn and opening through the kitchen window at the sink (at our house). One day my sisters decided we would go up to the loft and swing on the rope thing, which meant we were dangling in the air very high above the ground. Then they decided to make me do it! So of course I did. They lift me up and I grab on to the rope and the push me out of the hay loft, there I was dangling. Well at that very moment my mother was at the sink and looked out and all she saw was me(her baby) dangling out of the hayloft by a rope!! I do not know how she came across that field over the fences, I think maybe she flew... My sisters got the whipping of their lives and I got the stuffing squeezed out of me again! And of course told to never do that again no matter what my stupid sisters said.

Larry, I have to agree with you about The Far Pavillions. My sister in law kept telling me how wonderful it was and how much I would like it. I'd take it out of the library, look at it and end up taking it back, unread, a few weeks later. She even gave me a paperback copy for my birthday (she was persistant) that sat on my bookshelf for months. Finally, one day I picked it up and started reading it. I couldn't put it down. I read all but the last 3 or 4 chapters in one sitting. I'd have finished it that night except I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer.

When I was young they didn't have the orange road cones used today, to alert one to construction or a roadside emergency. They used little cast iron 'smudge pots' that were lit with kerosene. The cross street at the end of our road had some construction going on, so it was lined with many of them, that were just too tempting to some of the neighbourhood boys. One time two brothers kicked them all over, so the kerosene inside them spilled onto the road. Imagine what could have happened if a car had driven by and one little spark ignited the road under it! If I recall, the boys' sister tattled on them and sand was soon poured over the spills to prevent them from igniting. The boys were rightfully grounded from playing outside for two weeks. The only dangerous thing I can recall personally was walking across a trestle bridge that connected two neighbourhoods, because there didn't seem to be any particular train schedule. One kid would rest their cheek on the rail and feel for vibrations, while everyone else looked down the tracks in both directions. If no vibrations were felt, we'd happily scamper across the trestle bridge, assuming we'd have time to complete our crossing if we suddenly heard the train whistle! One thing that happened in our area during my childhood, was the Detroit race riots. Our family left on the morning of Sat. July 22, 1967 for a cottage on Lake Erie that we'd rented for a week. That night (actually early Sun. morning) the Detroit Police raided an unlicensed bar, which led to a public disturbance that ended up turning into the Detroit race riots. I lived in Ontario, right across from Detroit, and some personnel from our Police and Fire Departments were sent over to assist in Detroit. My father was a police officer, but we had coincidentally gone away during the exact time that the rioting took place. When we returned the following Saturday, we learned that the skies over Detroit had been filled with smoke from fires and the sound of sirens and gunfire, until the rioting was finally brought under control. It was the worst of times for our neighbours to the north. http://mashable.com/2014/11/26/detroit-riots-1967/#B5PyEFmc8kqF

Glad you had a good time Lori. I love going to Las Vegas. You gambled 2 hours, and still had money? You did great. I agree, the Flamingo has good meals.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun. You must have a lot of energy to pack (and unpack) so soon after the holidays. I've just wanted a day in my p.j.'s with a good book, but that hasn't happened yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Trade shows with saddles? What kind did Custer get?
I have a Circle Y flex tree (bought it used) and loved it but I am sure Custer bought something sturdier for ranch work.

Glad to hear you had a great time while you were here. The rodeo is a great time. A lot of people come here for it. We do a ton of rentals for it and events pertaining to it. I am sorry the HLS woman was mean. You should have told her that SHE was being slow too! Maybe she didn't like where she had to park. LOL Grouch!

Hi Kathy!

Custer has a circle Y buckaroo saddle with a deep dish and high swells and cantle. He's had it for years and is a good comfortable saddle but it's very heavy. His shoulders are wearing out. Riding bucking horses for twenty years didn't do them any good, I'm afraid. I have worried he was going to tear a shoulder throwing his old saddle on a horse. He's been looking for some time and found a G Bar G saddle he liked. G Bar G uses bronc saddle trees so they are tough but lighter weight than the Circle Y bullhide tree. Digger has a G Bar G so we got a 'second saddle' discount.
I'd bet the Circle Y you have was made recently and is lighter. His is twenty five years old. I can't hardly pull it off a horse and lift it on a saddle tree it's so heavy. I don't know what he'll do with it now. I prefer a slick fork and ride a Colorado. Digger has her G Bar G and Jesse (I don't know where she came from....:) prefers to ride her prissy little barrel racing saddle...LOLOL. The old one will probably sit in the barn for awhile. His new saddle is in the middle of the family room. LOL

The saddle makers want pictures of Digger and Custer to display. As soon as Custer gets his out of the family room I'll get some photos. I already have lots of Digger in hers.
:)

Lori, thanks for the post. I totally forgot about all, but when I started reading I remembered you telling about the airport and Custers saddle.

Thanks again.
