Two suggestions for you from one who's "been there" :-)

One, if there is a store near you selling the Benefit line of cosmetics (e.g. Sephora or Bloomingdale's), or you can prob purchase online--get their product called She-laq. It's a liquid you brush on over the liner (also great on brows). Let it dry and voila--no more liner on your upper eyelid! I don't use it underneath the eye (except perhaps near the outer corners), but I believe you can use it there. It can be a bit sticky as it's drying, so I tend to use it sparingly, and only where I really need it. A little goes a long way. I've applied it over powder eyeshadow used as a liner (applied with a wet brush), and it held up really well.

Also, I know you don't want a liquid liner, but consider trying "Smudge Pots" from Stila (also at Sephora as well as some major dept. stores). It's a creamy liner (gel?), not a liquid. It can be smudged while still "wet," or let it dry down for a short while and it doesn't budge. Really! I use it primarily on my upper lids, and go over it with just a tiny bit of the She-laq (haven't tried it without it yet, but will, soon), and it lasts all day. Holds up better than anything else I've used before.

I use a really fine brush to apply it. It's more of a softened wax-like consistency rather than a liquid, so you might not find it difficult to apply. Make sure you close the lid tightly after using it, as it can dry out.

FWIW, one nice thing about Sephora (I'm no way affiliated with them, BTW), is that you can buy things and try them out, and if you don't like it--return it. I signed up for their free "VIB" card, and have gotten some good coupons via email the past few months (10% and 20% off).

While I wear cover cream under my eyes, I don't apply it on the lids and keep all sunscreen/moisturizer off my lids too. That seems to help a lot.

I still have problems and also need to change what I'm doing. I think I'm using the same pencil you're using!
But the results are better when I do what I suggested.

I had the same problem and found a trick that works for me. I quit using eye liner altogether and only use an eye shadow (thin line above my eye lashes) instead. The trick is to use wet mini sponge/brush and the eye shadow will stay on for a long time. Wet your mini sponge slightly before putting on the eye shadow and it will stay on for at least 12 hours.

I had a problem trying to find "just the right shade of brown" for my blue eyes. They all looked pinkish when applied on - it just didn't look right. Finally, I came across this tip on one of the websites & tried it - I found a brown eye shadow with a lot of gold & silver tones. It's perfect. It may work for you as well. Good luck.

Golden, how do you wet dry eyeshadow without it caking? I'd like to try that because I usually line the eye with eyeshadow instead of eyeliner.

No, Jen, I have the oiliest eyelids ever. LOL. Of course, getting older and getting more wrinkles under my eyes certainly doesn't help -- although I've always had this problem. I've never been able to find a pencil that doesn't run, but have had great success with a couple of the gel/cream liners from Smashbox. The brush makes the difference. Since it's a creamy substance, it's not like applying a liquid liner. You apply and smudge them. A bit pricey initially, but they last a really, really long time. They are similar to the Stila liners that cat_mom mentioned. If you have a Sephora or Ulta store nearby, that would be the best place to buy them initially since it makes returns so easy. You can also order free online at Smashbox. QVC offers the waterproof liner and brush set at a special price -- it's the only place, other than eBay that has the particular shade I wear, plus this particular brush.

I use Midnight Plum in the waterproof liner and Lava in the cream liner. Because I smudge and don't line heavily, they come across more gray.

I was just reading the reviews on Makeupalley.com for the eyeliner pencil in the "Inspired by Carmindy" line by Sally Hansen. Posters were raving about the staying power. Sorry I can't link to the actual reviews here. You need to be a member(free) to view.

Since you are not opposed to tattoos, have you considered having the makeup eyeliner tattoo done? My mom had this done and I thought she was NUTS for doing it (she also had eyebrows and lip liner done) but honestly after a couple of weeks when it faded and softened a bit, it looks like totally normal makeup and she LOVES that she wakes up ready to go with just a few additions but the "steady hand" stuff done already.

I also have very oily eyelids and have this same problem. I mostly use a Clinique eyeliner pencil for ease of use. It doesn't last all day, though. It's one that is made to have staying power (as opposed to their soft kohl liners), but it's not all that great.

I have also tried using dry eyeshadow as eyeliner, but it doesn't work very well. Wet eyeshadow didn't stay all day, either. I've also used the gel pots, such as the one by Stila mentioned above, and it seems to work pretty well - but it doesn't last until 5pm, either.

I am interested in trying the Benefit She-laq and will follow this thread with interest!

I really, really, really love Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I can be sweated soaked and my eye makeup stays put. No creases. It's wonderful. There's lots of positive reviews about this stuff.

If I'm out of the primer potion I find that my eyeliner holds up great. I use M.A.C Powerpoint eye pencil. I currently only have Engraved, which is black, but I'd like to try some other colors. There's a good selection. (Sorry still don't know how to make links)

Thank you all so very much for all of these suggestions! You've given me quite a few things to look into. I am a "member" of Makeupalley.com, so I'll definitely be checking out the products mentioned here to see if I can get even more info on them.

I never use moisturizing eye creams, because they only exacerbate my oilslick issues. I guess I'd rather have this problem than extremely dry skin, but sometimes it just feels like a curse when what I put on my face in the morning has slid right off (or into the wrong places) by lunchtime.

I don't think I'd ever go the route of permanent eyeliner though. My tattoos are in places where sagging isn't going to be a major problem (or if I do get saggy calves, I can always cover them easily!) -- but I think I'd worry too much about my eyes drooping and the permanent eyeliner being slightly out of whack over time! LOL!

Oakley, I am now the proud owner of two bottles of Cashmere Mist, as well as the body lotion and I love it! I had ordered my first bottle online, and then a coworker brought in a gift set that she wanted to advertise on our company bulletin board (she received it as a gift and didn't want it) - so she let me have it for $30, which was half price. A bargain! I can see this being my signature scent for some time to come. It's very soft and fresh, without being the least bit overpowering.

Put your powder eye shadow on first, then put on your liner over the shadow. Or, if you don't wear shadow, then use translucent powder on your lids before the liner.

Merle Norman makes great makeup period, but their soft touch liners are wonderful.

Yes -- I use a powder foundation -- and always dab it on my eyelids before putting on any makeup!

Well, I kind of wish I had oily eyelids...my skin is on the too dry side, but I was told by the make up lady who sold me a lot of makeup for DD's wedding that the Estee Lauder pencil I got would stay on. And it did...my eye make up did not come off at all, thru tears, dabbing, dancing, etc.

So if you have an Estee Lauder counter near you, ask them about it. I don't think I paid too much more than a premium drug store brand.

I just ordered She-laq by Benefit (from Amazon) and should have it tomorrow. I've read lots of positive reviews and am eager to give it a try. Any negative reviews seem to stem from women using too much of the product, so I'll have to make sure I use a very light hand when applying.

One thing I've found helpful, is not opening my eyes really wide just after applying it (my eye/lid shape means my lids at the lash line come in contact with the upper part of my lid when my eyes are fully opened--contributing to the liner "transfer" problem). I look down, or keep my lids partially closed for just a moment or two 'til the She-laq dries. Also, if there is too much product on the brush, I run the brush lightly on tissue (to wipe off any excess She-laq) before applying it.

Once it's dry, you can go over the line(r) with a small brush dipped in powder eyeshadow if you prefer a softer, less defined line. I usually dust over my entire lid with a minute am't of translucent powder (when I'm done shadowing and lining) just to set whole area anyway.

FWIW, I really have been pretty impressed with the Stila Smudge-Pots so far (I have the brown and the black).

I will second Shee's recommendation for the Urban Decay Primer Potion. This stuff is amazing!
I have very oily skin and eyelids. In the past, my eyeliner would smudge and eyeshadow would collect in the crease of my eye. The primer potion looks and feels like a concealer that dries into a powder. It makes your eye makeup have truer color, and it makes it last forever. My eye makeup still looks the same at 9 pm as it did at 6 am.

One thing I find helpful is to apply my foundation to my eyelids and my lips before applying eyeshadow, liner, mascara, and lipstick. You can use loose powder over the foundation too which really thickens the eyelashes after putting on mascara. I learned these tricks years ago from a makeup artist.
