Seriously,I have never seen that but it looks like another one of those "as seen on TV" gadgets that never work with the ease they are shown.I think it would be really hard to get close enough to the bug,unless it is standing still,to suck it up.Oh,and then if you were lucky enough to catch it you can let it go and it will come back later,and maybe madder! LOL Of course it might be a novelty for kids to catch bugs and examine them with.Is that what you meant?
I have one of those electrified swatter things that looks like a badminton racket.Has batteries in it and if you hit the bug with it he dies.Kind of like the bug zapper lights.It works pretty well.Good arm exercise.LOL

Way back in the early 50's when I was in Junior High School (as it was called back THEN) as a science project we had to collect and mount insects.
Catch them in a jar with a cotton ball doused with alcohol.

This portion of the damage to the leaves on my plum tree applies, found at http://www.treehelp.com/citrus-insects-diseases/ I will make mention that the leaves are not curled, the outer edges of the new growth of leaves are chewed. Citrus Whitefly The citrus whitefly is a tiny white winged insect that is about 1/12 of an inch in length. It is most commonly found feeding on the underside of the tree’s leaves. When the branches are shaken, the Citrus whitefly will rapidly take flight and can be seen fluttering around the tree. In addition to feeding on the citrus tree, the whiteflies also lay their eggs on the underside of the leaves. When the eggs hatch, the juveniles are small oval, almost transparent larva, which attach themselves to the underside of the leaves and begin sucking the sap from the leaves. As a result, the tree’s leaves begin to curl and appear to be covered with a sticky, sooty mold substance. The mold like substance is actually honeydew that is excreted by the whiteflies because they are not able to metabolize all of the sugars contained in the leaf sap. The honeydew can often be seen dripping from the tree’s leaves and becomes an attractant to other insects such as ants. Over the growing season, several generations of whiteflies can emerge. To effectively control Citrus Whiteflies spray the tree with Bug Buster or Trounce. It is hard to achieve full control of the adult flies, but several sprayings of the tree with either Trounce or Bug Buster will significantly reduce the juvenile population and in doing so the overall population.

Even though this post has dealt with some pretty disgusting creatures I cracked up with most the replies. But since this post morphed to include Germans I should share my best cockroach story. Rita will relate. I grew up in Greece where the weather is very much like north FL down to the Germans. Only back then, in the 1950s, we didn't have the pesticides of today to deal with them. So they came out at night in droves. My mother always put a glass of water on the night table for me. I usually just reached for it if I woke up at night. One night for some reason I turned the light on before I reached for the glass. Good thing - a dead roach was floating in it. EW!!! Ever since then I freak out if I see one in the house - just ask my hubby. Yah, I know. And I live in Florida? Well, the pros come out regularly so, knock on wood, I haven't seen one in the house. Now the lubbers, if they show up around here, it will be war, and I'm a good shot. My 22 is loaded.

qquick addendum. Root aphids are NOT the same as regular aphids. Many of the things I googled started talking about root aphids but quickly evolved to discussing soap or alcohol to kill foliar aphids which is irrelevant here.

"Often" is the keyword. You'll notice I go almost every Friday. If you see something, grab it because it's GONE the next day. The link I pictured is only one of many at the Community Forklift. They have several, in many different styles and colors. I saw a green one; kinda mint green. There's often white, and sometimes even ... pink. Oh, those directions on their site suck. Not stink, suck. You take the beltway around towards Bethesda/Silver Spring. Take Kenilworth Ave (201) towards the right. Go 10 minutes or so and look for Buchanan and turn right. Follow the curve to the left and it's immediately on the left. Right now they have tons of reclaimed bricks, lots and lots of doors, and those appliances I mentioned! I didn't know about the Restore in Chantilly. Is that the name? I might need to road trip. My sister is in a foreign country called Reston. Maybe I should plan a vacation... Every county is supposed to have a H4H. I didn't know that!

Shoot, I was hoping someone was going to tell me that they're all that. Had an unseasonably warm day here in PA, and of course the bane of my existence, LADYBUGS, are
back out in force. I was hoping this thing would work to collect them from the inside of my house. Only difference, no way in h*ll would I gently release them outdoors! But thanks for your input, I don't want to waste money on something that won't work. I guess it's back to using a bottle, or jar or whatever I have with a lid on it. Thanks again.

katlan-That might work on lady bugs since they are usually not in flight.Do you have a hand vac? That would probably work too or just get out the vacuum cleaner.LOL

I rather get one of those plug in bug things that emit high frequency sounds..They sell them at Target . That way I would have any to have to catch...it would just keep them away...I would hope.

I don't want anymore of those wolf spiders crawling around in here...ackkkk

I have 2 0f these -- one for inside, one for outside. They work on EVERYTHING (even skeeters! -- we have a lot.) And roaches are fun -- we have a few of those, too, here in the South --- b/c they kinda keep sparking for a while. Caution: if you accidentally zap yourself, it hurts! I bought mine at a local Harbor Freight to not pay shipping, which I think may be kind of expensive.

Guess I will probably go with a cheap dust buster then. I didn't want to use my vacuum cleaner because it's not even a year old yet, and the last one I had ended up stinking up the whole house everytime I turned it on, after having used it on ladybugs. Pattico, do the bug things from Target that you're talking about work on ladybugs? And gag me, wolf spiders are naaaasty! Thanks again everyone.
