This week's finds! :) Yeah!

Well, if you're in the DC/MD area and need a fridge, freezer or stove, now's the time. Some appliance outfit donated probably 30 of each to the Community Forklift.

Lots of orphan cabinets, which makes me sick!. There are some cool, W3030 that are not painted, and a great Shaker door, with ... GLASS! OMG! They look like a little sand paper would do the trick for restaining. They're gorgeous.

I picked up 4 more of the exterior French doors I got 2 weeks ago. They're going to be the fixed windows on the porch off the kitchen & dining area.

I also found a whole bunch of 6x6" posts to use for, well, the POSTS! These buggers are about $18 for an 8' beam, and I paid $1.00 a foot.

I also found a replacement, exterior door for the mudroom, which has a solid bottom panel I can put another dog door into. It's pretty. The one I have right now is crap and doesn't close well.

My Multi-Purpose Fred has been taking apart stockade fence panels (but the flat kind, not the rounded kind) and putting them up for the porch ceiling. It is SO COOL and FREE!!! (Other than his labor, but I am more than read to pay him.) I can't imagine what I'd pay for reclaimed 6"w, 8"h 3/4" thick wood, to cover a 37' x 12' porch ceiling. Here in DC? OMG. cheeCHING! I'm just taking my fence down and an internal chain link is moving to the outside.

AND Fred and his hunting buddy finished the siding on the back of my house today. (In exchange for bow hunting rights.) I now have siding on all four sides of my house for the first time since 2005. It looks like a home rather than a trailer's tornado aftermath.

Other than the termites, it's been a great 2 weeks!

Doris Browlie is the wife of a hybridizer and Winston Goretsky is the main photographer for the African Violet Magazine Ruth Coulson is an Autrailian author of a book on African Violets that I used to own and give as a gift. Carolyn & WC8: if you go back to previous posts you'll see jean monnier a & b.... they came from fred clark and his awarded parents, whereas c & d came from an H&R compot of two unawarded plants, (the parentage wasn't touted in the catalogue) so far my favorite plant is the pink from H&R--Carolyn the only thing I'll be doing next is singing the seven dwarf's song "hi ho, hi ho. its back to work we go"--school starts soon---as for monsters, I've seen cyc canes over 2 feet tall-and as thick as the circle made by your thumb and 1st finger--some of mine might just get there next year if they don't die over the winter :( mark

Christine, yep, 26 inches. It is an exterior door in a little bumpout on the front porch.....my brilliant idea to have a way to let myself and the dogs in without going through the front door. I turned this bedroom into my laundry/ mud/ dog and cat room. I can have one custom made, for way off the budget, but I would rather find an old one! These old doors from my barn are a pair of entry doors, probably 72 inches for the pair, and they weigh about 200 lbs each. I will try to get a picture for you! And Ralph Lauren for $3.oo is a great buy.I shop thrift for work clothes because there is usually a real good selection of smaller sizes.The nice thing about the thrifts is that the clothes are usually organized into sizes,style and color.But for used clothing there is nothing to beat a yard sale.The same three dollar pants can be had for a quarter if you have the energy to roll through a pile of yard sales.I was just musing last week that I have found designer brands on the clearance rack at TJay Mox and Russ fer Less for as little as two or three dollars.They are new.At the thrift store I can get a decent shirt for two or three dollars used.I use the thrift for jeans and shorts and longer wearing clothes,and try to buy the shirts at the yard sales or at a good discount store 'cause I know I will get more wear out of them for the extra buck,and I won't be clipped at a yard sale the way I am at the thrift.

[LOL] Eriepatch, I pick them up but sometimes it takes me ages to actually do anything with them.

Beekeeper's wife, my fabulous termite man is here as I type. He and his son. Family business, which I like. He wanted to come last week when I discovered my "friends" but I couldn't get my bummy in gear to move things.

Looking around, they've also identified 4 areas where the ants have decided they're going to live in the house, too. Under the siding, up a post into the front porch ceiling, and other nice, dry places.

A Raid commercial has nothing on these guys!

I'm going to try to upload a pic of one of the many older sinks you guys rave about. Community Forklift has a bunch!

How do you know how to do all of this? Amazing! I love tag sales, flea markets etc. but I never find these great finds!

My skin is crawling as you write about the ants and termites, but I'm so happy you've got the bug busters there on your side!

Can't wait to see pics as it sounds like lots of progress is happening.

"Often" is the keyword.

You'll notice I go almost every Friday.
If you see something, grab it because it's GONE the next day.

The link I pictured is only one of many at the Community Forklift. They have several, in many different styles and colors. I saw a green one; kinda mint green. There's often white, and sometimes even ... pink.

Oh, those directions on their site suck. Not stink, suck. You take the beltway around towards Bethesda/Silver Spring. Take Kenilworth Ave (201) towards the right. Go 10 minutes or so and look for Buchanan and turn right. Follow the curve to the left and it's immediately on the left.

Right now they have tons of reclaimed bricks, lots and lots of doors, and those appliances I mentioned!

I didn't know about the Restore in Chantilly. Is that the name? I might need to road trip. My sister is in a foreign country called Reston. Maybe I should plan a vacation...

Every county is supposed to have a H4H. I didn't know that!
