Naw, Mark, I think that they were just trying to bloom behind your back! What a great thing to come home to!

And the 2nd of the 2 Jean Monniers. The 1st 'c' seems to have nice flat flowers, but I really like the color of the other much better - I even like that spot-less pink area on the top petals (behind the column, I guess?)

Yeah, I relly like the pinker variety!

Great job! So where are you going next? ;)

(BTW, I fear as if my Jean M will have only a very few flowers. It's early to tell, and mine is only a very small plant (compared to your monsters), but it doesn't seem as if it will be very floriferous.)

They never bloom while you're watching. If you stay out of the greenhouse for 3 days, who knows what will happen. Love the coloring of the 2nd JEM. Mine is more like that, too, if I remember correctly. Never heard of Dapper Dots, but Ctsm are new to me. So many of these plants... so little room. WC8

Perfect, absolutely perfect... Jane, yes...that's the house and thankyou so much for the pictures of it..it's one of the chosen places I really want to see in person, if the day comes I jump aboard the clipper.. Kathy and Kathy....both are excellent... if I wasn't so adamant about gardening, with actual dirt and plants, I would love to fill my yard with this same kind of yard art but that never was the goal of what's transpired with my battle with the gestapo guy... I always had tripling up the garden space, with whimsical things added all around..but it's been an uphill fight, for months with the next door neighbors and for the life of me, I don't know why they don't just get a life and leave me alone.. before they had the fence built, I could understand them not liking the pile of junk I had on the side of the house..that was acceptable..I mean acceptable that they didn't like it all.. but after the fence was built, they just didn't let up. the day the survey was finished and I had a copy of it all in my possession, I was like given a second chance at life itself.. you know when you're in a restaurant and by chance you end up at a table, where the noisiest people in the world seem to gather..not just a couple but an entire extended family and they talk a mile a minute, top of their lungs and you wonder if they will EVER shut up or EVER leave... then, they finally finish and leave the place.. you sit back and are so tired from them all, that you just sigh a sigh of relief... or if you're out camping..in the quiet, in the woods..and some idiot cranks up the car radio, or battery operated radio, with music you detest....and they have a 'good ol' boy' party, bbq... drinking...then arguing, then either the cops are called or they finally pass out, till morning, when they start it all over again.....finally, camping is over and you go home, exhausted.... well, having the survey papers confirming my thoughts that the fence was on my side of the property.... that was the same kind of 'silver lining' in the clouds that came over me.. I could think straight, I could sleep at night, I could feel comfortable in knowing my boundries, both realistically and figuratively.. it was awesome... now, since we've gotten rid of what I believe were the points of concern...solid waste..(appliances that showed, since the carport fell down from snow) and the bags of coffee grounds and other misc...I don't think there's any reason for me to concentrate on anything other than my gardening in potted plants and raised beds, with the other garden junk art that I had planned. if he has a problem with any more, I will take it up with the county and file harassment charges. it's just gotta stop somewhere. and....I will have more than one person here, in my defense, to walk around, while 'gestapo guy' does the same. I have 30 different emails I've sent to myself, from google, emails and posted pictures on here and other albums some of you have in your own folders... there must be no less than at least a hundred photos... all of them too cool to single any out.. thankyou to any and all of you, who have contributed to this cause..I appreciate it so much. and sure wish you could all converge in my yard, the day he shows up...lol sincerely, Becky .(*_*).

Yeah, my neigbhors asked me how I was able to achieve that many plants. They saw me working on the garden around early March. They were curious about the garden beds I was making. They saw the milk jugs. I explained to them what it was and also gave them the Wintersown site. I actually watched their reactions when they saw it. They didn't pay much attention to it kinda like "oh, ok". However, when plants started to come out/bloom, they went back to me and asked, "was that from the tiny greenhouse". :) I'm going to make more beds maybe by fall once my knee gets better. :D Thanks mnwsgal! :)

Suebot - don't think i'm going to tell you anything that somebody else hasn't said, but since i've had too much experience with deer & rabbits, i figured i'd concur with the remedies that worked for me. i used to live/learned to garden on nantucket and martha's vineyard, where the deer are at least as unreasonably tame and probably more abundant than they are in ct. i've heard stories of people standing 10 ft away from them yelling at them while they chomp on their hydrangea flower buds. one woman i was talking to claimed she saw the deer attacking her dalmation!! anyway, my first thought about your original message was are you sure all damage is due to deer and not rabbits? - when they stand on their hind legs, they can eat quite high - on a couple of my client's properties on the islands, i had more problems with bunnies than deer, especially with my daylilies & echinacea. so, i also found success with the deer away spray products; i can't remember which one i used, but i believe it had garlic & mint in it and i actually liked the way it smelled. the directions said to spray every couple of weeks (??), but i found that i had to spray every couple of days or so & definitely after a rain. it was pretty time consuming. unfortunately, my other success was fencing in the gardens. i just tried to be decorative about it - i used nice cedar posts with caps, bird netting @ 4' high (you can't really see it, so the garden still looks nice), i hung rope along the top of the netting (for a nautical look...). I did throw netting on top of the gardens in the spring until things grew too tall, but i have to admit, the deer hopped in a couple of times (- that would've been a mess i kind of would have liked to see). i now live in maine and have a large cutting garden in my back yard, a good distance from my house and i use the bird netting as the fencing (simply because it was the only fencing i could find that would be high enough in one piece) and it works (doesn't handle snow load, though). i see deer in the back and they walk right around the garden. chipmunks are now my problem. unfortunately, my true feeling is that if the deer want to get to something, they will. sorry to be so lengthy, good luck. just out of curiosity, do you have phlox and is it being eaten - that always gets destroyed the worst for me. -mara

We signed all the papers today - paying 6% commission or 5% if he brings the buyer. We viewed the 4 bedroom house with a pool. It is vacant and needs alot of work. On its side, it has the 4th bedroom, but the house is in rough shape. Listing says freshly painted, but they had to mean the exterior because the inside walls are in horrible shape. Tile in kitchen old, dirty and shows age. The entire yard is taken by the pool - that's a subjective thing as a buyer either wants one or doesn't in this AZ market. It's on a corner lot on the main drag of the area. Ours is a quiet street. Huge EWWWEEEEEE factor - fridge included in kitchen was DISGUSTING! Mold and crap growing inside. Something small, but huge turnoff to me. Dh and I looked at a house when we were looking to buy two years ago. Nicely remodelled, but dead roaches everywhere. It was off our list. Closet doors off their rails, bathtub cracked and chipped, door frames, baseboards and trim terrible. Old 80's brown carpet in LR, bedrooms and masterbath. Original light fixtures. House was quite dirty and there were ants and other bugs inside. Our house is in considerably better shape. Not dated, clean, no bugs, doors, frames etc., in good condition compared to this house. With the other two and our home, ours is in the best shape and by far needs the least work. Pool house is listed at $249,900. I was worried about going higher, but our realtor said let's give it a shot and reassess in a couple weeks after we've had feedback. We're listing at $253,500. Price per square footage is smack dab in the middle with other homes in the area. Most recent comp from June sold for $240K, so that gives us wiggle room. He's coming on Thurs AM to take photos and will have an infotube on sign. Open house most likely next Saturday. Let the fun begin!

Carolyn & WC8: if you go back to previous posts you'll see jean monnier a & b.... they came from fred clark and his awarded parents, whereas c & d came from an H&R compot of two unawarded plants, (the parentage wasn't touted in the catalogue) so far my favorite plant is the pink from H&R--Carolyn the only thing I'll be doing next is singing the seven dwarf's song "hi ho, hi ho. its back to work we go"--school starts soon---as for monsters, I've seen cyc canes over 2 feet tall-and as thick as the circle made by your thumb and 1st finger--some of mine might just get there next year if they don't die over the winter :(

I've got them in a shade house-about 50% and where the cyc's are growing there is a palm tree cluster directly overhead further reducing light

You did a fine job in blooming them! The pink form is my favourite, 'though they're all so cool!
Did they receive any watering while you were away? I have had Dapper Dots for about 4 years-no blooms . The tallest leaf is about 8". Please let us know how you are growing them. Thanks!

thanks for the comments---Carol I grow them with a lot of light(50%) and fertilizer---I fertilize once a week (strong)and make sure they get watered twice a week ( either me or nature) but up there in canada I'lll bet they can stand a lot more sun due to the lower angle of the sun ( sun in Miami is real strong) I love the pink too---all I could saw when I saw it was wow--real articulate huh?

I do grow it in strong light, and water it every day! (It's dry in the sunroom) Heavy watering twice a week, and a good fertilizing once a week, but no stronger than the other orchids. Do you mean stronger fertilizing than the other 'chids?
Sorry for the questions, but I really want this orchid to bloom after all this time.
"Wow" is the ultimate comment upon seeing an orchid that makes you say it.:)

Clara: I'm using miracle gro a little stronger than label instructions once a week. H&R does have an online sore--they are out of Hawaii.Fred Clark at sunset orchids should have some also--but ask about the color expected from the cross if the pink is the color that you like.
