Bragging on my sister's art again! (and please click the link!)

My sister Pam and her partner Cara were nominated several months ago for the "Atlantic Canada Award of Excellence for Product Design" for their artwork. They didn't expect to win, but considered it a huge honour to be nominated. Well, they won! The committee is flying them to Halifax next month to accept their award at the ceremony. All their expenses will be paid. It's apparently a big fancy shindig. There are 4 awards being handed out, including theirs. They're super excited, and I'm super proud of them!

Here's the link to their rather strange blog again (Cara's the writer and she's an oddball, but a good oddball). They'd love it if you'd check out their stuff. Plus, they're in a friendly competition with a friend of theirs to see who can get the most hits on their blog, so I'm networking for them. :)

Hi auntjen. Thats a piece I painted about 10 years ago. It was inspired by something I saw on the internet...I have no idea where at this point. It's a piece that was in my garage until 3 years ago because I never finished it. Still isnt finished (based on the idea I had in my head when I started it). But since it was started I now have a 3yo so it will likely not be finished in at least the next decade :). I have MANY pieces of original art (all my own) in my house. Art is my passion. I dont expect others to care for it but when they do, it makes me feel good, so thanks. My favorite pieces are those that my 3yo has done. We have a huge wall collage of his pieces. He's amazing. He finishes his pieces in 2-minutes flat and they are simply masterpieces! I probably have 100 of his pieces on my walls. Most people think thats a little overkill. I think its precious. He will look at a piece he has done..that looks like scribble to most of us...and will tell you exactly what it is, with detail. Kids are GREAT!

Well, this artist and published author thinks it's crazy NOT to be creative. Being creative is simply one of the pieces of a well-rounded life. There is such joy in creating beauty with our hands -- which, after all, is why we're all on this board, is it not? Are we all crazy? I don't think so. It's crazy to just work, watch TV in drab surroundings, sleep and do it over again. I learned very young the joy of doing a good drawing, or painting, or sewing something pretty to wear. I feel sorry for those who have no confidence in themselves to create, who were not encouraged as children to express themselves through art of some sort. The part of the article that resonated with me is the part that said you can't create if you're truly crazy. Well duh. When I see someone who can rescue an old kitchen table and turn it into a beautiful new kitchen island; or grab an old shabby mid-century dresser out of the thrift store and turn it into a glamorous mirrored beauty; or walk up to a blank wall and create a breath-taking mural; or is willing to put in the work to pick out the perfect sofa or drapes, I'm very impressed! I wish you lived next door because we would have such fun. I suspect those who call us crazy are just jealous. Ya think?

I pulled it up and voted from IE just now (usually use FF) next page said Thank you, we've already counted your vote. Wish I'd thought about it when I was at the Y this morning. There is a bank of computers for members use in the hall. Hmmmm..tomorrow's another day.

Pal - I thought same as Annie....Naaaaw not Kincade! I actually really liked the floral painting in your design though. I came across it in one of my searches last night. Humph, but I already forget now the artists name! This is such a great exercise for the mind. Mine has been really REALLY out of shape for years. "Personally embellished". Ha! Now we know his technique for achieving the shimmering highlights of morning dew glistening of each leaf or that diamond glint on a trickling brook. His DNA signed works cost extra. I remember as a teen going to a Kincade gallery. It was in the Mall. It was like walking into a dark cavern. The paintings would have small picture lights above each. But some special works had tiny lights embedded somehow behind the frame so the street lamps and house windows lit up. Now that is realism! Annie - That's awesome! The houzz pics droopy chair is absolutely perfect. Cawaps - I love your interpretation room! The ant on the red half round table is my favorite. I want to try my own, but I am not sure how you guys do these. I am using an iPad. Does anyone know if there is an apple app to make these boards? I will look, but for now I will watch and learn. Thanks jlc for starting this thread. I love the ideas of DAT based on your pet, a song or musician, and the craigslist one sounds really fun.

Ever since you posted the link to their blog here I've been following it. It is so funny!!! I love their artwork too, I have one of their cards mounted in my porch. One day I will get a real piece!

I love folk art. I love that they use lots of color. It reminds me of some of the works I've seen in Taos and Santa Fe.

That's a really looong blog, but the art is just crazy enough to 'catch on'. I think it's a winner. The writer is a humorist. She should be writing a column for a publication.

Oh, Nicole, what talent you have in your family! SUCH a fun blog with wonderful photography and color. I adore their style and taste in art, I would love for my whole house to be filled with their things and done up like their shop. HOW FUN! Loved reading it and now I'm a follower, too.

I only wish they sold on Etsy or something like that!

Wow!!!! As an artist myself, I can only say what wonderful, creative output!! Carving is not as easy as some think and I love the humor they've injected in to the art. Beautiful work. You have every reason to be proud.
