How much I appreciate what Lowspark did

May (Lowspark) posted something about beets, with a warning in the subject line about gross references. I didn't read it, and for all I know I might not have minded anything in it, but I am grateful.
So many times I have been eating while reading this forum, and have come upon references to bodily functions. I know some people are not sensitive this way, but many are. And many of us are eating breakfast or lunch while reading this forum.
On a cooking forum, it would be nice to have no surprises of that nature. I've never posted a complaint because I did not want to single out anyone. But I will express my appreciation for May's considerate post.

Yes, that was nice. I also appreciate when people put SPOILER in posts about books, movies and tv shows. Also nice when ppl say "don't open at work!" .

Wow! Thanks for that! Honestly, I'm the type who actually can't resist reading something like that -- curiosity gets the best of me -- so I do hesitate to call attention to it in that way.

Good to know I did the right thing though - it served its purpose!!

I do resist movie/book spoilers. I hate finding out what's going to happen in advance.

When I think it can't get any better, it does. May, I love everything, the bowl, the cookbook and the wine. Just a perfect package. Lars, we have mesquite on our land and DH does the same as your Dad. I have seen some beautiful furniture made from mesquite. There is a place in Austin that makes mesquite dining furniture and I wanted it until I found out what it cost. Well, I still want it! The bowl is beautiful. May, you shop good. Have fun, Stacy.

Odd Subfloor Question -- Help Much Appreciated

I agree, it is odd. Is the maple flooring actually flooring and not a subfloor? I would be tempted to pull up some of the maple flooring to see what was under it and get a better idea. However, if it is good flooring and you want to use it, then you will need to use some sort of transition between that and the higher areas. Here in Colorado floors are sometimes made with in-floor heating which is covered with a thin layer of cement. That seems unlikely in CA, but maybe that is what you have. --Kris

Thank you Thurman for your post. I too agree that this forum/list is very useful for us step parents. Before i found this forum, i looked everywhere for books on step parenting or anything i could put my hand on to better understand my situation. Thanks to all who post here, your comments are always helpful and have helped me alot. It is true that sometimes it is difficult for others to understand the situation of being a step parent if he or she is not one themselves. I remember discussing my situation with my very best friend of 25 yrs. and her responses to my delemma were the same as many others : Why bother with that child? She is not even your biological child? etc. etc. etc. People can be mean. The only way i got to resolve my situation with my SD is really by coming to this forum and reading everything on the Internet that i could on the subject. I also truly, truly worked on detaching myself from her, by not letting her get to me as much, by simply ignoring her! So Thurman, i understand you when you say even your own family or friends don't really understand you in regards to your SD. So this just proves how we the step parents have to work on the situation ourselves and not with the objective of making the step child happy or to make them love us more but rather with the goal to make us the step parent a better person and a happier person. Go Thurman go. I also wanted to say Thurman....if you do practice some of the suggestions offered on this forum, like doing things by yourself and not always having to be in or at the events/activities where your SD, wife and son are at....you will notice that the entire family whole will not fall apart, your wife will still care for you and no your son will not love his mommy more than he love his daddy. Well, I LOVE my recently added knockdown ceilings. Ya wanna know why? because I had POPCORN ceilings before! DH and I did all the popcorn removal ourselves. It was torture, but well worth it. We had a company come out and do the knockdown..DH really wanted smooth ceilings but yes, our ceiling was all wavy and would have to be "floated"and would cost a lot more...so we went with knockdown. We had it sprayed and troweled so it is very big "blobs" (for lack of a better word...you know what I mean, I am sure). This is a 1970's ranch we just purchased a few months ago and are totally renovating. In my last house I had popcorn...and in the house I grew up in? POPCORN. Geez, I hate that stuff! I just did the 1st coat (primer) on the knockdown and yes, it is hard...I have to apply pressure on the roller to make it in all the little grooves and whatnot. My shoulders were bunched up in knots at the end of the day. I guess I don't have it so bad cuz my house is small (2000 sq ft) and the celings are low (8 ft) but I am not looking forward to doing the paint. I keep putting it off. I actually like the look of KD on walls, but my DH hates it so we didn't add it to the house. My DH was a builder and said just what you did...knockdown (and popcorn) is used to disguise shoddy workmanship. We needed it on the ceiling, but not on the walls. Good luck, I am sure your rooms will be GORGEOUS when you are done!

I think that is why I do not enjoy mysteries. I always get impatient and flip to the end to see what happens. Saves all that reading. LOL. I love every other kind of book.

I also did not open that thread after being warned. I do not have that type of curiosity - I am only curious about things that I think I will like, and I also often do not open threads that do not have enough information in the title for me to know what it is going to be about - especially ones that are intentionally vague or teasing - I do not like being teased.

OTOH, I do not like movie spoilers and want to be surprised when I see the movie. Some movie reviewers are good and are able to critique a movie without revealing the plot and other movie reviewers are too stupid to anything other than rehash the plot, which is not what I want to read. I do not read mystery novels now, although I used to as a child.

SPOILER if you are waaay behind in movies, read no further:

I remember when I worked at the library. A volunteer had just seen the movie Fatal Attraction and was dying to tell everyone about it. I hadn't seen it and wanted to, so I asked her not to talk about it. Then she blurted out: "I couldn't believe she boiled the rabbit." Gee, thanks.

You should have shot her on the spot! Anyway, I have not yet seen that movie, and now I won't. I should have stopped reading at the spoiler alert - normally I do, but I did not realize that I was that far behind in movies! Actually, it was not on my "to see" list.
