Figuring out a better way...
Comments (30)Tricia, I feel for you, having been there myself. That's why I also cook ''more than one'' and rely on my freezer heavily. It sounds like we've had some of the same issues, and do many of the same things; it's why I always want to work out a plan for any recipe I make, banking the results for future meals. After three leg surgeries (and one more to go), I am almost back to normal but the ingrained patterns are there to stay. I have to separate the energy for shopping, cooking and clean up, and when it works for me...opposed to feeding us when we're hungry. I'm so happy for you that you can scratch your legs again! Tami, I make Bierocks with a twice-risen potato bread dough. The last ones I made were the best EVER, so if you go to the beginning and look at my tips, they will be very good! I got 18 meal-sized, and 20 appetizer sized Bierocks from my last effort. Since they freeze so well, it's great to know we always have dinner, and with home-made bread! I bake mine first before freezing, and reheat them on a covered glass plate on the defrost cycle for 13-15 minutes. Since the defrost cycle is much more gentle heat, it keeps the texture of the bread from getting hard/chewy, and they literally taste freshly made....See MoreI think I've got this figured out.....(maybe)
Comments (24)Parma - LOL!! I hope you had a great vacation!! Seriously, thou, girl - I am the cheapest person....I have agonized & agonized over this....paralyzed by this b/c I don't want to waste my money!! I really like hand me downs & old things & hate paying full retail for anything! LOL I held off ordering the shutters on the doors b/c they are custom & if I switch the doors then the door handles will be switched & there goes the money for the doors!! Zula & Patricia - that's the way the shutters will be done once I make a decision!! I plan on having the den french doors done in plantations also. Caroline - what a great space you have. Every pic I have seen of your house is beautiful:) You all have mentioned having the current door swinging out.....I am concerned about that b/c it is quite a drop off there & to the left is another 3 foot drop off - it would be quite a tumble for someone. We do have elderly parents over often. I was thinking about having the doors switched. Does that work? Thanks for the compliments on the color...it is an old Duron color Ardmore Green. I really appreciate all the thoughts....2 days ago I was about ready to rip out the dang fireplace but that wouldn't be good for resale, either. Smiles:)...See MoreI need some help figuring out how to lay out this kitchen
Comments (66)If you use lisa_a's with 2 entrances to the pantry it may just vent itself easily as I'd imagine the pocket entry door to it from the garage may stay open or ajar frequently. You could possibly fit it in the bump back to match the entrance stairs. Fridges in garages are pretty common around here but we have more issues with freezing temps than overly hot. Otherwise I'd put it in that spot in the garage where the writing says small appliances for inside the kitchen. That's not far of a walk at all....See MoreTrying to figure out full house standby generators.
Comments (21)Ron, everything you say is correct, except, full description: The power comes from the street on an overhead line to a pole on my property with a transformer. From the transformer, the service goes down the pole underground to a meter stand about 50 feet away, where the meter and cutoff switch are located; this was all done by the POCO. Initially, it was a 200 Amp meter with a 200 Amp underground service to my house, about 180 feet away. At that time, there was also a receptacle mounted on the meter stand (and, I assume, a breaker somewhere). When they discovered their mistake, the meter was changed to a 400 Amp meter and a second 200 Amp underground service ran to the second 200 load center, which now services primarily my boiler. I got my CO after all this was done. My initial plan for a generator was to locate it next to he meter stand, so I had a large propane tank installed nearby with a line, again underground, to the house where it services my gas cooktop only. My thought was to put a generator near the propane tank and feed it to one or both of the services which start at the meter panel. These ideas were all approved in principle by the builder and his electrician. If this generator were to feed only the second 200 Amp line, I might move my more essential circuits from the first load center to the second. Last December, I had solar panels installed. The very professional installer ran his line from the roof down to just outside my utility room, in to the two inverters in that room, then to two cutoff switches (one outside), to the second load center. I discussed this whole thing with him and he suggested I consider one or two Tesla Power Walls (Tesla was NOT involved with the solar installation)....See Morehamconsulting
