So sad to see them go

Today I have watched as my two HUGE pine trees and my Big old Oak trees were cut down and carted away. It brought tears to my eyes. I so hate to lose trees. We have almost 40 big trees on our property but losing any is just horrible. The disastrous drought conditions we had this summer coupled with the extremely high temperatures for long periods has killed so many big OLD trees, we drive around and where there had been lush green fully treed property you see dead trees or trees being cut down. The 2 Huge pines were at the back of my property and shaded a large part of my back yard, the oak was right beside the house and hung over my sun room and shaded my big AC unit. These will be missed in many ways including the price I will be paying for my electric bills in the heat of the summer.

Watching them climb way up to the tip top of those enourmous Pines was just plain scary and with 2 chain saws dangling on ropes from his tool belt. But these guys are just amazing, they have done all our work and several of our neighbors too, it is a family the father and sons and sometimes even Mom comes along and brings her little dogs to visit mine.

No way would I ever be able to do what they do.

I just watched as one of the young men hefted up a huge log on one shoulder and thought oh my then he bent down and picked up a second as large on to the other shoulder and this guy is small! All muscle apparently.

The interesting thing as the forestry dept has been saying is that these trees did not die as much from drought as from the massive high temps for so many days straight it literally baked the sap inside the trees which has them much weaker than a normal dead tree and they need to be taken down quickly because they are much more likely to fall. And of course being in a hurricane area with possibility of high winds not going to chance being squashed by my trees!! We don't usually get much Ice here but did not want to chance that either.

So goodbye my lovely trees you will be greatly missed!
