I know...I am so pathetic, that I am seriously excited to try new laundry detergents. As someone posted, laundry thrill must by OCD related! I love doing laundry, and soaps, laundry machines & softeners are kinda a thrill for me. Oh well, it could be worse addicition!

My cousin arrived yesterday afternoon from Germany for a weeks visit. Where most people bring European Chocolate, perfume, or some other goodie....she brought me two HUGE boxes of German laundry soap. Both are not available in the USA. So excited.

The first is Persil Gold Color Pulver (powder). It is formulated for 20-60 C washes, protects color, fights stains and odors and smells SO good!!

The second is Ariel mit AktivLift. It is for coloured and dark cloths, with a special formula made to deep clean cotton clothing with special active lifting power for stains! It smells to me a little stronger than the Persil, but at the same time gentler.

I have never seen Persil Powder for coloured clothes, that is not MegaPerls in the USA. I personally do NOT like MegaPerls, but the Persil Universal Powder (which I like) fades darks and colours & is only for whites. Now, I can use Persil Powder (fine in texture) for my darks and coloured items with my new Persil Gold. SO excited. I cannot wait to fire up the new Miele W4842 today.

I think I have to do one of my infamous search missions, where I walk around the house and "find" things to wash. "Oh yes, this blanket in the guest room closet for sure needs a wash". "These jackets that are hanging in the hall closet need a good washing". HA HA HA

Larsi, you are too funny! I think my husband (and my mother) think itÂs just me. They wonder how any one could buy as many detergents as I do. I love reading your posts because I donÂt feel alone in this "craziness". Although there is no way IÂm ever going to go through as many machines as you :)

When I finally decide on the new set (unless they are terrible) IÂm sure IÂll have them for at least 10 years.

I hate to waste but once I move onto something new I just canÂt go back to using anything else. I just did a major purge of my laundry room and must find a willing home for some past brands (ie. BioKleen powder and liquid, Dropps, BioVert, Caldrea, Persil Megaperls Universal and Color Â oh my Â).

Do you finish your stuff even if you donÂt like it or what do you do with it?

I used to just toss it, and consider the waste a byproduct of my laundry addiction. Luckily, I have found a few friends of mine that could not care less what detergent they use, so I just give it to them! It's been a win-win! :)

Welcome to the Okie Forum kevokie! Normally for both zones in Oklahoma, the last projected frost is usually April 1st for zone 7 and April 15th for zone 6. I live in zone 6b, where the two zones cross. The projected frost dates are always anyone's guess here in Oklahoma anyway, but this year it is a real toss up. Who knows what to expect. Kev, the secret to all successful gardening is GOOD SOIL. If you will continuously work on building and enriching your soil with compost, leaf mold, & composted manures, you won't need as much fertilizer. Remember, the plants are continuously feeding on the nutrients, so you must keep renewing the soil if you are to have healthy plants. There really isn't any way around that. Water is the second most important element to good gardening. Plants need the water to take in the nutrients they need out of the soil and carry it to where it is needed in the cellular structure of the plant. It cools and protects the plants. Liketolearn shared a lot of very important information. My experience differs in one way though. Our bank would not approve us for a loan without a signed contract. We were, of course, pre-approved, but they needed to know what the bottom line was before making anything more formal. Okay, so this may be different depending on your area and your land, but for us this is what happened after our plans were finalized and our contract was signed... (we also own our lot and have a construction-perm loan.) The bank did an appraisal of the property + estimated home value. Our contract was for much less than this amount for which we were given a pat on the back by the bank (they're a little cheesy, but their rates were good!). We then proceeded to closing the loan. I think that took place within a few weeks of the contract being signed...maybe a month. I'd have to review my documents to be sure. While we were waiting to close on our loan, our GC applied to the county for well-septic permit and for the building permit. In our area, you have to have the well drilled before a building permit can be issued. Once we closed the loan and had the well-septic permits, we proceeded to clear the land. After that, we had the well drilled. Once that was finished, we were able to receive our building permit. Then the building started...they staked the ground, had it surveyed, poured the footers, laid the foundation block, started framing, and on and on... The structural engineer was involved several times during this whole process. If you don't have to drill a well, you can proceed straight to the land clearing as charliedawg mentioned. @ joaniepoanie IIRC, the Sears Ultra Wash detergents are made by a company called DeSoto. I'm not familiar with it, don't know where it is located. The link below links the Sears detergent I have. I get good results in hot or warm wash water, not so much in cold or cool. However, the info at this website says it is formulated for all wash temps. Some people here have said it has faded some of their laundry (maybe dark fabrics, not sure), while some people here really, really like it a lot. I've always bought it at half-price when it was on sale at the local Sears appliance store. It is also available at Sears mall stores and online. The price is definitely very reasonable. Holly-kay, in my mind you are the hardware goddess of GW; I understood what you meant, no worries! Romy718, if it was just me, I would go all knobs on the uppers. But I am taking dh's wishes into consideration, a little, and I do like the look of my pulls in a vertical position. I have them that way on pullouts and the few lower doors. I could certainly be wrong - I have been spectacularly wrong on hardware so far! Rococogurl, you are likely right. But I just couldn't get those knobs out of my head! I am worried this may be one of Jakuvall's "don't let a good idea ruin a design - use it next time" examples. I may send those knobs back and pay the restocking fee...or decide to use them in my bedroom...or just put them in my kitchen and know that while I love them no one else sees them the same way. I don't think I'm going to have a "next time" in remodeling a kitchen. I'm quite interested in how design elements successfully migrate from different rooms - I think lots of people first see mop (and my mop mosaic) as "bathroomy" and my GC was appalled by the idea of glass knobs in my kitchen - he said they are good for tween girls and strippers, lol! People with my level of talent really ought to just follow design rules and use experts. Winston Churchill once said that American will always do the right thing, after exhausting all other possibilities. Call me patriotic, I've got the "exhausting all other possibilities" part down pat!

Keep me posted on how you like the new detergents. You've given me a new idea ... my step father is German and has a friend who comes to visit. I could ask him to bring me some on his next trip. I feel the excitement Â

I LOVE the Ariel mit Aktivlift. It has made my coloured clothes, towels and sheets amazingly clean, fresh and bright. It has a strong smell in the box (clean & old fashioned) but after the wash and drying the smell is very, very light!

The Persil Gold for colors is good. It smells almost identical to the MegaPerls. So if you don't like the classic smell of Persil, Persil Gold Powder is not for you. It dissolves better than MegaPerls. Odd, but even with a large amount used (100-135ml)...there is NOT one suds bubble. Looks like clear water during the wash cycle!

Going to Sweden & Germany in less than a month, so I will get some Dash in Germany and some goodies in Sweden. Also planning on picking up some Vernel softener while in Germany. I hate the smells offered here (peach, rose and "day at the beach"). Seriously, a day at the beach to me smells like dead fish, bbq potato chips and suntan oil. NOT something I want my clothes smelling like!!! ;)

Actually, the Actilift formula is not about actively lifting stains off the fabrics but to prevent them from attaching to the fibers in the first place. It contains an enzyme that eats off loose cotton fibres. The fibres become smooth and dirt has less surface to attach to, thus it can be washed off more easily. That's the theory. It takes four to eight washes for the detergent to fully treat the clothes.

Dash is a mid-level detergent. It used to be famous because it was the only detergent available here to have a built-in fabric softener effect - Dash 2-in-1 was its name. The softener effect has been remove as the brand got revamped. Now, Dash's selling point is the strong scent it leaves on clothes - even without softener. Dash is all about fragrance.

100 - 135 ml of Persil? Did you get a Jumbo Pack? The bigger the box, unfortunately, the more fillers it contains. True for Henkel and P&G detergents in Germany. The small plastic bags of Persil contain the most concentrated versions.
