I bought some lovely towels at Bed Bath and Beyond. They had them on sale up from for $4.99. Really heavy, big and wash well. I love them.

On the other hand, bought the wash clothes that went with them and do no wash well, have strings, color faded, and are not holding up at all. arghhhh

The Hotel Collection from Macy's was the highest rated towel in either Good Housekeeping or Consumer Reports ( I can't remember which).

I bought towels from Lands End recently, but I ended up returning them. I first washed the towels in cold water, and the color came out! I currently have towels from Lands End that I bought ages ago, and I'm very happy with them, but not with the current crop.

Funny you ask this question. I bought a bunch of towels from Walmart about five years ago. I was sorting laundry an hour ago and took a good look at my towels and decided I needed to buy some new ones as they've lost their oomph! I want to go to Sears and buy some of their good thick fluffy towels. Mine have always been solid colours too. I want patterns now. As for brand? It doesn't matter to me. As long as they're thick and fluffy before I wash them.

My last towels I bought were from Walmart. They were about $5 on sale about 3 years ago or so.

The hems are fraying now, which I'm not happy with. Other than THAT, they haven't bled, shed or faded. Oh, I just remembered, one of the WM towels would leave lint on me after I showered. I ended up Freecycling it.

I bought 2 expensive ones that were on sale from Linens N Things before they closed here. The buggers are constantly shedding even now.

This is one my biggest complaints. I cannot find towels made in the US. I try to find some from China, as they seem to be the best now. Do you have a Sam's club/costco near you? Check KMart. Don't know if they will have there annual white sales or not (like they use to).

My vote would be for bamboo towels. I don't have any...just learned about them, had the joy of using them, at my son's over Christmas. Soooo incredibly soft and absorbent...I want some. They will definitely be by "best-est" towels!

DD also loves the bamboo towels; they are very soft and absorbant. I used them while visiting her and understand why she likes them.

Make sure you read the care label before you buy. I was looking for white towels that could be bleached if necessary. Most of the towels - even the white ones- said non-chlorine bleach only. But what really surprised me was that most of them said to wash on gentle and dry on low.

I finally bought Nautica at Bed, Bath and Beyond. They had a large sticker on them that said they were Bleach safe as long as you followed the instructions.

I always can find plush spa-worthy towels at TJMaxx. I don't look for a particular brand, just really thick, absorbent ones. I have bought nice ones at JCPenney as well.

THANK you all! Nice to learn some of you like the bamboo towels. I know, I know, I will have to trudge to some store and actually FEEL the goods, but knowing what has and has not 'come out in the wash' is useful. Everything looks good when it's new.

Does anyone know what that 'bare' section is called? The band or bands near the towel ends. Just 'decorative'? It's
sure useless.

BTW, I did look at some towels at Costco the other day. Not what I want. What I WANT is to find my old Royal Velvets! LOL

I have found my best towels at Tuesday Morning, TJ Maxx, BBB and surprisingly enough some fabulous brand name over sized ones at Big Lots for a great price, I stocked up!

Ralph Lauren Turkish towels. Mine have held up really well and they're very plush......and on sale!
