Should I replace furnace along with ac even if it is working?

Here's the background.

Compressor on ac died and I have very strong recommendation from more than one contractor to replace the whole unit as they will not guarantee anything with compressor replacement only because of unknown condition of coils- unit is probably at least 10 years old - I have been in the house 6 years.

The furnace is fine (York Stellar Plus 115,000BTU), but as old as the house (15 years). I am concerned that I spend the money to replace the ac only and then have to come back in a couple of years and replace the furnace with much higher labor cost than if I do this all at once. Another advantage to replacing the furnace is improved heating efficiency of the newer models.

So what's the smart decision? If it ain't broke, don't fix it, or get a whole new system and hopefully get some payback with tax credits and lower utility bills?

A follow up - is a modulating gas valve furnace necessarily much more efficient than a 2-stage furnace? It seems that AEFUs for both types are over 95%.

I live in SE PA, so heating efficiency in the winter definitely matters.
