Taking the tree down and stalling...

Well, for three days I have been taking all the decorations down around the house. We decorate everything! The decorations which I have to put back in boxes and the tree are today's project. I have already wrapped and stored on the shelf all the big stuff. It's an anxious day every year, because I fear that it won't all go back into the same number of boxes I cram into the storage closet, which has no room for yet another box.

I took all the glass icicles off the tree, and they are wrapped in their own special box. The garlands from the stair railing and the mantles are boxed. Now I am down to the knitty-gritty, and the dread returns. So I delay, and stall, and procrastinate. But by tonight, it must all be put away. Gosh, I DO dislike this job. Do you too????

I'm so ready to get all my junk taken down and put up. I'm delaying it though, because I'm supposed to have dinner company this week for a late celebration of the new year. The stuff looks kind of pitiful now, though. lol
Time to come DOWN.

DH is bringing the boxes up from the basement as I type this. I didn't do a whole lot of decorating this year, so the job should be done within a couple hours.

Just a few seconds after you posted this I made a post about a different type of stall! lol Thought it was funny to see Stall in one post and stalling in another! What's the odds?

For the names of the maples you'd have to ask the nursery owner. But he may not know; so what you can also do is look at the growth habit of the tree and try to project out 20 years... and maples also lend themselves to pruning. If you want a high canopy, then all the branches you are looking at today will eventually be pruned off and a similar shape will be over your head. That is why to me the second maple/third picture looks more like what your property needs. But you could accommodate them both, or all three, if you manage them (once the other Bradford is gone, and honestly, it will likely be a lot cheaper to get rid of both at once - on the other hand, letting a new tree grow in for a few years first means you won't have to go through a moonscape phase). It actually looks like you might have a little new tree by the fence? Maples aren't always appreciative of being gardened under so if you want a flower bed I would be more inclined to remove your foundation hedge and corner pyramid evergreen, and make a nice garden there - those plantings weren't genius choices to start with and are getting past their best-before date. Removing that corner evergreen especially would open up your front door area nicely. Tree removal is always a good opportunity to rethink the whole property landscaping. If you do a plan view diagram and draw circles on it to represent the future canopies of your trees you may find it easier to think of options and placements. Consider sun direction and where you want shade. True you don't have a lot of room but there is scope for much better use of what you have. KarinL

We had a blockage at one point and pulled out tree roots when cleaning. The maple was only feet from the sewer line and it is a old house, so it is not surprising. The new tree will be planted further away from the pipe. I think the other trees on my street are lindens, but I'm so bad at identifying trees. From the bark, it looks like lindens from the pictures I looked at online. Also, I don't jump over these trees, but don't frown either if that makes sense. It isn't an issue the city is offering a tree and I'm happy they ripped out the maple (it scared me with constantly falling large limbs). I'm just going to use the tree as the base for designing the front yard and don't want to find out I based my plan off a horrible tree. Hope that makes sense. I'm just a little confused as some sites classify the these trees as medium trees and others indicate large. Maybe they stay smaller when planted as street trees?

Based on the assumption the lane is 8 to 10 feet wide the tree looks like it is about 20 to 30 feet from the power lines. Base on the type of tree, I do not see any need to remove it. As for the low branches, unless you are willing to hire someone with climbers or a cherry picker. You can remove the lower dead branches with a hammer and a long rope. Tie the hammer to the end of the rope, and arrange the rope so it can feed freely. The throw the hammer over the dead branch, feed the rope until the hammer reaches the ground that pull the branch down by pulling both ends of the rope. MAKE SURE YOU STAY CLEAR AND THERE IS NO ONE ELSE IN THE AREA. If you can not pull the limb down it tells you something about the general state of the tree. I have used this method for years to keep my trees clean of dead wood.

I have so many ornaments from when my sons were kids and it takes me a while when decorating as I enjoy looking and holding them before putting them on my tree. Using the crib mobil characters is a cute idea.

I decorated for Fall, then on the first of December, Christmas decorations went up. Everything looks so plain now.

We usually like to leave the inside stuff up for the entire 12 days of Christmas--but I don't decorate inside until the weekend before Christmas Day.

But this year, what with losing mom at the start of the Christmas season, and so much on our minds, we didn't decorate nearly as thoroughly as usual. And I did take down the inside stuff yesterday (a real departure for me). I don't dread the actual work, though--not since I started putting the tree away decorated. Only takes about 5 minutes to unplug the tree, haul it to it's spot in the basement and drop a large plastic bag over it. We have 2 trees that stay decorated that way, year round, so it isn't much trouble to either decorate or take down the decorations. And you don't have to find boxes, wrapping, or storage space, etc for all those ornaments. Something to consider, if you use an artificial tree. (and a real good reason to switch to one, if you don't--LOL)

My tree has been totally dismantled , but now I have to haul the lights and ornaments up to the attic. I'm never done in one day. And my legs are already sore.

Mine has been up since the first weekend in December. Of course I put it up on a Sunday when DH is playing hockey and I take down on a Sunday when DH is playing hockey. He has the job of getting the tupperware bins out of the attic each time. (poor baby) and I decorate and then undecorate) Today I took everything down and lugged it all up the stairs to that attic and put it away. (except for one box that is too heavy for me) as well as did 3 loads of laundry, cooked a roast beast dinner, coloured my hair and vacuumed & dusted the entire house.
And now DH is asleep on the sofa. Something is wrong here!!!

My tree is still up. Maybe in the next day or two I will take it down, but I really hate too. I hate the winter blahs and the tree helps brighten my mood.

I usually poke along but this year we had more days off school after Christmas and it seemed to be easier to get it all down and done with days to spare:)

I will admit when my kids were younger I was very lazy about it, because if I waited it out long enough and my DH had days off during the month of January and I was working (my big 4 hours) and running kids around he would do it all for me:)

I didn't even put up a tree this year but I was just thinking as I read this.Have you ever noticed how things are so pretty and festive looking when you first put up the tree and on until Christmas,but then the day after everything looks so......empty?

I don't want to take ours down!! I love how happy and festive it looks, plus, it's such a pain to rewrap and pack everything back in!! Although since I'm pregnant this year, guess I will be the packer and not the lifter!

Plus once it's all back in the garage storage, I won't have anywhere to hide my clearance X-mas purchases! LOL!!

Finally finished mine today. This time I used smaller boxes so they wouldn't be so heavy to lift onto the shelves in the garage. But they stacked very easily, so next year I'll appreciate that. Labeled everything well, too.

Going through the shelves I removed and packed up some things for a Yard sale this Spring. Mostly kitchen stuff since I don't cook or bake as much as I used to. The convection oven I got for Christmas is working out well for me so I packed up the toaster and the toaster oven; also my can opener since I also got the One-touch opener for Christmas.

Still decluttering!!

Ugh...It's 9:15 at night and we just finished putting everything away. I only have a few little things...Oh dangit! I forgot we have to take down the lights outside. :( I'll just make DH do that. :) I did the rest! I even cut the branches off the 11' tree and took the trunk and branches outside. MY BACK HURTS!

You know Sheila, when I first read that heading.... I was thinking trees outside. After all, we (husband and I) just cut down two big trees in our front yard, cause of ice damage.

Since then, I clicked on your post twice... and thought this time I should tell my first thought.

My Christmas tree was easy this time. Not sure why, but all the Christmas stuff came down fast. The tree didn't involve taking apart and putting in a box, that's why fast I suppose. I just opened the balcony door and tossed it off the balcony in to the back yard.

Yesterday my daughter cut all the branches off, and we layed them down over the canna plants.
