I have seen pictures of very fanciful mouse or fairy houses that people have hider their stairs or some other secret place. In out chu8rch we have aht cutest little mouse peeking out of a hole near the organ....he's wooden of course....but lots of choir members have done a double take.

A good friend of mine in San Francisco who is from South Africa used to live in France in the 1970s and painted trompe l'oeil murals in French chateaux. He told me that he would often paint a cat stalking a mouse in the kitchens. He painted my portrait several times also - one of which was quite psychedelic. I thought a trompe l'oeil mouse was a bit creepy, since it might scare someone, but the mouse hole that you have is much more benign, although it seems like you might be inviting trouble. You might want to consider adding a cat silhouette!

LOL Lars. Did you know I'm from South Africa too?

We actually did have mice in our kitchen in the fall and we managed to find where they were coming in and seal it off.

Now I'm hoping that any mice looking through the window will see our house already "belongs" to someone else and they'll leave us alone :)

I think this is a great reason to get a cat!

L2c46, I had no idea that you were from South Africa. Do you have Dutch heritage like my artist friend? He was extremely tall, like several other Dutch people that I know.

My GGgrandparents, who immigrated to Texas from Prussia in the mid 19th century almost immigrated to South Africa instead, as that was their first choice. My GGGF owned a lot of land in Germany but my his sister had inherited all of the tools and farm equipment, and so my GGGF rented out his land and didn't work. When he got married, my GGGM decided to put an end to that, and that's why they decided to leave Germany - to increase their wealth. Their first thought was to immigrate to South Africa, but because a lot of Germans were moving to Texas at that time, they thought that might be a better idea. It took them a while to sell all the land in Germany, and some relatives in Texas gave me copies of letters written in German (and German script - not easy to read) that described some of the transactions of their land sales and money transfers to Galveston after they had already left Germany. It must have taken the letters a very long time to arrive.

Friend called one morning laughing hysterically. She told me she had a mouse in her kitchen. So I asked what was so funny. She said she turned on the oven to preheat so she could bake muffins and a disgusting smoke rolled out of the oven. She shut the oven off, cleared the kitchen of smoke and opened the oven door. Voila....roasted mouse! Her husband was so horrified he removed the stove and took it to the dump. He told her to order a new stove. She'd been dying to renovate the kitchen so...the rest is history. She said if she had known it was that easy to convince her husband to renovate the kitchen, she would have roasted Mickey sooner.
