Ideas for heating a remote bedroom safely?

We've got a remote guestroom that obviously isn't usely all that frequently. During the winter we use gas fireplace inserts in our great room & master bedroom to heat up those areas nicely without having to resort to central heat. That strategy save us a lot on heating bills.

However, there's a chance that we might have a family member stay with us for a couple of months this winter. Is there a way we could safely heat that remote bedroom separately without having to use the central heat?

How big is the remote guest bedroom?

Maybe an oil-filled electric radiator will do the trick. They're quiet as they have no fan, and they put out 1500 btu-hr on high.

I bought one of those oil-filled radiators. What a waste of money. Had to stand next to it or pull it right next to the bed to tell it was on. Not very radiant at all. I ended up getting a Monitor Heater (2200) My family uses these (bigger models) to heat their entire houses and they are really efficient. I will paste the info on them here. The 2200 has an optional drop in tank so you won't need any special lines. Just set it up. I ended up putting the bigger model in and heating the entire home for under $500.00 and I don't have any ceiling insulation. (I'm in Ohio).

Thanks, yes, it is for the new place. We'll have our GC investigate the insulation situation better once we are in, and do the draft-inspection, too. He's ramping all of the steps for us and replacing the sliding glass door. I'll probably stick with the electric heater, I was just hoping there was something I had not thought of. Xandra, he's not in bed much and I can't get him to use a throw, they feel too heavy to him. If he's cold in bed, I'll get a matress pad with heat. I love ours. You turn it on to get the sheets toasty and turn it off before sleep. By the time the room cools down from the cold night, the body heat of three dogs and two humans is keeping the room rather warm.

"Plus, sleep and marriage experts generally recommend to save the bedroom for sleep and sex, and since one statistic showed couples with TVs in the bedroom have half as much sex as couples without TVs in the bedroom" Really??? I don't know who these "experts" interviewed, but I can assure you that the tv has never presented a problem in the intimacy department in my own home. Also, I find it sad these so called "experts" deem the bedroom as the only suitable room for sex in one's home. IMO, lack of imagination, or perhaps some other undisclosed "issues" in the marriages of those who were interviewed by these "experts" seem to be the more likely intervening factor. Our bedroom tv sits on a bookcase on the wall across from our bed, since DH uses the armoire for storing some off season clothing.

I'm going back and forth on adding in some small streaks of the green and bits of silver. Here's what I'm thinking as of now: 1) Base coat - Color match to the beige/light gray in the pillow that comes with set (see picture of forest green comforter I added above.) 2) Add a FEW streaks ("strie"- the vertical lines), of the green and light gray (or whatever the "beige/light gray" pillow color is). I would add maybe 1 streak of each every 7 - 8 inches. I probably wouldn't even be using a teaspoon of each color for the entire wall. I doubt it would even show in the pictures, but when one is in the room, they would see a very subtle lines of the green and light gray. And if I even change the comforter, I could just paint over the green and light gray streaks. 3) Add the metallic paint (something light and "pearly") as the final coat on the headboard wall. 4) Paint the rest of the walls in the base coat (the beige/ light gray color matched from the pillow.) I really like the "drama" of the forest green comforter against the light walls. I also love that large gold metallic vase in @Molly 's picture. Thinking of doing something like that in a pewter. Now just have to find a massive vase that doesn't cost $300+ dollars.

Master bathroom/bedroom humidity question

The RH outside of that area is sitting in the low 50%. It is like 55% in the kitchen. It jumps to 60-70% in the bathroom area and master bath. Humidity comes from where? The baseline outside the area of the bathroom is elevated for this time of the year. Winter is typically drier everywhere. I am in a humid prone climate with a drafty house no less built before 1980 sitting here this morning with 36% RH in my office. So if outside factors aren't a factor the RH in this house is in the low 50% is coming from where? Osmosis? Well let's ignore that and just put in a bigger crapper fan. Just because I come here to provide hints, doesn't mean I am going to think for you too. Without trying to go down further rabbit holes of cold vs warm and how much humidity is contained there in --- take some new readings over the next two days. Take humidity readings in bathroom, and other areas of the house. The outdoors during this time is in the mid to low 50% RH outside. With this hint even still I am not doing all your thinking for you. Is the problem only in the bathroom? yeah we don't know, do we? Yet the rule here is to ignore all of that? Brita, I was actually thinking about a direct vent heater. The idea of a drop in fuel tank sounds intriguing. Thanks for the link. I live in the Sierra Foothills near Sacramento, CA. So there are a lot of people using different heating sources. I know I've seen direct vent heaters advertised in our local paper but just never paid much attention to them. I'll definitely look into them.

Wow. Brita: sounds like a commercial for Monitor Heater 2200. If I didn't know any better, I would have thought that this was a set-up question between shambo and Brita. But I do know better. Too much detailed commercial-type info to be a real post. How convenient, safe, and cheap is it? You are cold-busted.

Maybe the "Monitor Lizard" is a scam.
