Talk to me about the Miele T98xx dryers
Comments (18)As someone who is obsessed with ironing (I'm not German but have a British background)... I do appreciate those settings. While I don't own the rotary iron (it is on my most wanted list) I do own a Rowenta hand iron. The hand iron setting leaves just enough moisture in the items to be beautifully pressed. I think it speaks to Miele's commitment to fine fabric care - the thoughtfulness of these options. I own the T9822 gas version and have no complaints about its performance. I did have some install issues that seem to have been fixed. Miele's service (in Canada) during that was outstanding (even giving me free care products each time they came out). I am in love with their Miele detergents now ... but I digress ... It does reverse tumble (although not as often as electric) but I've never had an issue with items being balled up. @Larsi always talks about how Miele make electric dryers for the rest of the world (I've never checked to see if they make gas for anyone else) but gas and electric are not that much different. One uses an electric element to create heat and the other uses a gas burner. I prefer the heat generated by gas (it has a higher moisture content and dries nicer IMHO). I've never used a Miele electric so I can't compare directly. I was told that the 45 min dry was for when you use the drying rack. I seldom use this setting as I find the temp to be very hot. The Miele sensor is very sensitive. If you dry mixed loads you can expect some uneven drying. For example, I wash my kids' jeans with their other dark clothes (like t-shirts) and when I dry the load the jeans will always still be damp. Once the machine registers that the t-shirt are dry it stops. I just hang the jeans up and they dry pretty quickly. I really appreciate the residual moisture left in items when using the normal setting as I can appreciate how much better this is for fabrics (not to overdry)- again, Miele taking the best possible care of fabrics. If you find it too much moisture, you can select extra dry. I do this for loads where I have socks for example. The socks are always too wet dried on normal but come out perfect on extra dry. There is a learning curve and you'll have to figure out what works for you. There is a newer dryer in Canada (the IntelliQ) but feature wise it is hardly any different. I read a comment from someone that said they were told Miele is going out of the W4XXX series machines ... I don't know if that is true. The light you are referring to is the Check Filter/Vent indicator (Indicates to clean the filter or vent). It says (PC) beside it. My washer says PC beside the sensitive button. This may have something to do with programming. The Miele techs can connect their laptop to the machine and do all sorts of things. Good luck!...See MoreMiele dryer "Filter/Vent" fault, frequently triggered
Comments (24)Taking the toe kick off did not help. I did a load with one pillow and one 2x3 heavy cotton bath rug. It was near the end of it's cycle at the cooling down phase. I walked away and the buzzer went off. Came back and the filter light was on. I opened the door and the pillow was standing, back at the rear vent area. I had the settings on normal, full load, extra dry. The rug was ever so damp and the pillow (synthetic stuffing) wasn't totally dry either. Moderate to large amount of lint on the screen. Rug had been washed a fair number of times. Pillow was the first time. I took a piece of toilet paper and there was a nice draw that was being pulled in at the opening that I exposed. The filter light still went off. Fahrenheit: 1) if I get a buster what kind do I look at? 2) Would taking that dip out of the corrugated run help, as seen in the picture, or do I just get the darn booster? 3) I would have never thought that I would have needed a booster with the unit 8' away from the outside wall. Is this fairly common? I recognize the bends are causing more resistance to air flow, but still. 4) Is this typical for all dryers to need a booster at 33' of adjusted run, or is it because my dryer is really a hair dryer like MRB-627 says? Comments (30)I own the Miele 4842 and have had it for 8 years now. I really love it. It gets the clothes clean, even if you rarely see water in the drum. Magical. I just recently had a problem with it, for the first time. It threw a fault code F63, which is the water intake unit. It threw the code a year before, but kept working, so I thought this time I should investigate more, before it actually stops working. With help through this forum and youtube, I learned how to take the lid off the machine, open up the water path unit whilst still attached inside my machine. I was told to look for alignment of timing gears. The white gear was not flush with the red gear. So my husband found a tiny washer, placed it under the white gear. We put it back together and tahhhhhh dahhhhhhhhh, it works again. The only cost was time and a washer we already had. Admittedly, without everyone's help here on the forum, who told us what size screwdriver to use and what to look out for, the fix would have taken a longer time for us to figure out. I really like this machine....See MoreMiele Dryer - low heat?
Comments (19)@rococo....Wrinkle Free on the washer spins slower than using Normal. The Normal wash cycle is Max spin, unless you change it. @suburbanmd....That makes sense about the sensing strips thinking the items are still damp, as this NEVER happens with Cotton clothing, towels and sheets. @livebetter.....My smaller Miele dryer tackles CA King sheet sets with 4 pillowcases, and it dries thick Queen blankets and thin/med. thick CA King blankets. I have not found the size to be too small at all, but it is not as fast as my 8 cu ft. Electrolux dryer was. A big load in the Electrolux would take about 40 mins, +/- 5 mins. The Miele takes about an hour. @ Whirlpool....I have many times thought about adding a cotton towel or two to the wash load with my Athletic clothing, and see if that helps with the drying. Thanks for all the help!!! :)...See Moremieleforme
