Fisher Paykel Dryer has low heat
Comments (1)Possible airflow obstruction somewhere. I disassembled mine early this year for investigation of a recurring Airflow Fault whenever high temp was used (beeping with Auto Sensing flashing during operation -- Fault 16 in Diagnostics). Had been getting around it for some while by running only on Delicate (low heat) or Perm Press (med heat). Both run only one of the two elements as opposed to high temp (Regular and Denim) which runs both elements. My exhaust ducting is very short and confirmed clear so I was sure there was a clog somewhere in the dryer. I found the expected lint clog below the filter ring in the airflow outlet housing on left side of the drum. Required complete disassembly of the dryer to remove the outlet housing, which mounts to the left side-panel. I also found (unexpectedly) that one of the elements was broken. I am not understanding why the airflow fault was occurring since it logically would trigger via overheating of the elements which shouldn't occur if only 2/3 of the heating capacity is running. The bad element apparently was not shorting to ground as that would keep it energized continuously and there was no observation of that occurring. Anyway, got the clog cleared and element replaced, it's running good as new. Regards to the lint clogging ... check your filter ring for tears, which allows significant lint to pass through to the exhaust. ... and the lint scraper piece for excess wear. I had replaced my filter once before and it had a few tears again, so 2nd replacement was done. The replacement now appears to be of stronger mesh material than previously. The picture below shows the outlet housing removed from the side panel. It mounts turned facing the other way against the panel and at a slight angle as evidenced by part of the clog stuck on the panel....See MoreMiele to Release Solar-Heated Clothes Dryer
Comments (18)Hmmm....I live out in the country, in the middle of timber being grown and cattle raised. I've only had to re-wash one item in two years because something "pooped" on it. I don't have my lines in the middle of trees though. As far as allergies go, I tend to be sensitive to things and I really haven't had a problem from my clothing or sheets hung on a clothesline. If there is stuff blowing around I use my dryer that day. Don't even get me going on HOA. Couldn't wait to move away from that lifestyle. I did have a neighbor from Germany that stood up to them and said she was going to hang her wash out whether they liked it or not, and she did. Everyone gave up and stopped bothering her. Maybe more people should be doing the same thing. Since when did laundry become "offensive". It is possible to construct a clothesline system that is not an eyesore. I plan on having a fabricater make pretty metal poles when we get our house finished. As far as the towels go, if it is windy they are soft. If it is not then I look at it as a cheap way to keep my skin exfoliated without having to go to a spa:)) We have solar panels on our barn roof that have cut our electricity costs in half but I still hang clothes out to dry most of the time. I would find it absolutely insane to purchase a "solar dryer" that is a machine. For those that don't live in a sunshine state and/or have winters, with few exceptions (depending on the state) you aren't producing solar at that time anyway so a grid powered dryer is needed. I know. I used to live in the northeast. I took advantage of fair weather though and saved money about half the year. It is possible to ramp up a little at a time with solar panels and high capacity batteries. Not everyone would be able to do this themselves but with carefully studying the process it is possible to do. fordtech, we had winters where we would go 3 months without seeing the sun. Not fun....See MoreMiele T8966WP Heat Pump dryer or Bosch WTP86560?
Comments (2)Neither Bosch nor Miele have ever released a heat pump dryer on the US market so I doubt you'll get much feedback from this American forum. You can try the Discuss-o-Mat from automaticwasher.org Plenty of members from Europe on there who can help you out. I know Bosch had to revise the cleaning mechanism several times because it would clog with lint. Miele never had such issues but if it's so much more expensive... Both are good dryers in the end. Comments (4)Hi Maven, I had the first batch of T9820 gas dryers (Miele's first gas dryer model). It was LOUD, the clothes were so inconsistently dry...either super damp, or crispy dried and creased. Also, I never thought they smelled fresh after being dried. All of Europe (and most of the world) uses Electric dryers. The heat is a lot more consistent & even, and electric dryers are A LOT quieter than gas dryers. I have the absolute newest filter for the T9800/T9820 models. I can ask about firmware/software updates, but my unit has a build date of 5/2009...so I'd be surprised if anything applies to my unit, but ya never know. Thanks for the reply!...See Morerococogurl
