I don't know.. if it's via ultrasound- what if they can't see the gender?

Reading the link you posted; it's one thing if it's just your immediate circle & there are no gifts; but if there are gifts.. no way.

Would I do it? No. I wouldn't want to know via a cake with everyone there.

No, never heard of it before. And if either of my sons and their future wives ever indicate they would do it, I'll be hard pressed to keep my mouth shut. It's an extension of Facebook, Twitter and all manner of letting the world know way more than is necessary and often way more than anyone cares to know. But that just speaks to my age and impatience with all these young whippersnappers!

No, I have never heard of that. How ridiculous! Our oldest is 21, and we were criticized for not finding out his gender before he was born. In fact, we did not find out the gender of any of our three children before they were born. I don't understand this "need to know" and I certainly don't understand having a party to announce it.

Man, that is a little too much. I never learned the sex of my children till they were born. In fact, I only had one ultrasound with my first, and that was early on, too soon to tell. I never had one with my 2nd, and with the 3rd, it was to confirm the position and he was turned in such a way we couldn't tell anyway.

Not sure if I'd have wanted to know, even if I could. And even then, I SURE wouldn't want a party for that. Sheesh!

Oh good grief - talk about thinking the world revolves around you! LOL I wasnâÂÂt able to find out the sex of baby 1 before he was born, but wanted to. I did with #2, because I had amniocentisis done. I LOVED knowing in advance - felt even more connected to the baby. We did tell people, and that was fun, but we told them in casual conversation once we had the test results.

I've never heard of this type of party; I find it hard to believe that clinics would put up with it, having a bunch of people in the other room waiting for the results. Do they schedule the ultrasounds at night, or on weekends so everyone can attend ?

With Facebook and Tweeting announcing 24 hour a day every mundane detail of one's life, I suppose this was a natural progression.

Luckily, no one I know does these sorts of things and I would not participate if they did.

The parents of my son't best friend in H.S. are a very socially connected well to do couple in my area (and very nice people too) that do quite a bit of entertaining. They had a graduation party for their son (and ours too) and invited us. I was quite surprised to find the party already in full swing right immediately after the graduation ceremonies. They had invited all of their friends to their home before the graduation was even over. I got the feeling that the party was not so much about their son's graduation, but about their social connections.

I like the mom/dad baby showers. Today, most fathers are hands on when it comes to baby/child care. The notion of female only baby showers is as out of date as not allowing the father into the delivery room. Channeling Bob Dylan -'The times, they are a changin'.

That said, I haven't been invited to any couple's baby showers or birthday parties with lots of partying and booze. I must be lucky.

Golddust, I like those couples baby showers, too! In fact, I'm co-hosting one this Sunday afternoon. Kids are invited, too. I'm so glad that some moms-to-be are open to these types of showers nowadays ;^D

Great, Lynn! I hope the couple's party turns out wonderful. I've been to several baby showers, Birthday parties and the like, whose focus is on families supporting family. We need more of this today, no matter what the occasion is. With so many fractured families, I find it refreshing to be asked to be part of a positive celebration. I'm hoping this new trend will help keep young families together.

Some time recently, a couple had the gender of their baby revealed on The Price is Right. They had Drew Carey open the envelope on air.

Count me in as one who likes couples and family bday parties. I'm from a teeny family, alone in my state except for my dh and ds's. So when my DGS had his parties, both families came, some extended families and their kids came and we all had a blast, including the little one's.

But there was NO alcohol and just lots of good food, cake and toys.

I'm so glad my son's started this tradition because they didn't benefit from it when they were kids, while their friends did.
