The Garden Party

A gender reveal party?

I'm just finding out about this kind of party. From what I understand is that a party is given to reveal what gender the baby is.

When did the gender of the baby get so important here in the US?
Anyone been to this kind of party?

Good Lord, no! Why is it important? When I was expecting and was asked what I wanted, I said "a baby"

I looked it up and found out that there is such a thing. I guess that came about when people were able to find out the gender at an early stage.

When we were invited to a gender reveal, I'd truthfully never heard of one. I don't do Pinterest ;0) It turned out to be fun. Our nephew and his wife were so looking forward to a baby. They had given us news of a baby on the way as our 'Christmas Eve present' the year before, and lost that baby to a miscarriage. If they wanted to have a party - anything that made them happy made me happy. I took a neutral color for-newborns stuffed animal, but only because I wanted to. There were a few gifts but many didn't bring any. The confetti in the poppers was blue. He will be 3 in two weeks. And, he has a little sister who just turned 1 yr old. They opted not to have a gender reveal for her and made phone calls when they learned the gender, seems once was enough.

Yard work the past 2 days. Every day I do some weeding, mostly pulling up those (of the thousands that dropped this year) of maple seeds that have sprouted. I also neglected to deadhead the blue cardinal flower last year, so there are dozens of those that needed to be yanked out. Cut back the overgrown vinca that was escaping its bed. Swept the patio - the neighbor's locust tree has been dropping a lot. Sprayed the fruit trees and roses, and the moss growing between the pavers. All done well before the rains came; then went to Menards to buy a new shovel and dryer ducting on sale, and stopped at Aldi for one of their frozen pizzas. Today it is raining so it is my "rest" day, browsing the internet, reading the newspaper and a Tony Hillerman book ( a rediscovered pleasure after years of struggling to enjoy books after an infection), and will watch a movie later. I will need to do some bit of light exercise before this afternoon is over, I always feel bad if I sit all day.

Vee, that reminds me of when we went to an outdoor concert and the couple in front of us were really obnoxious. The concert was in summer time in a paddock which was rocky and had dry stubble and weeds and was quite rough. This couple kept standing up and dancing in front of their sets, blocking the view of everyone behind, and the security guard kept coming and telling them to either sit down or go to the dancing area off to the side. They also thought they were being so clever smoking (it was a no smoking area) and hiding their cigarettes under their seats so the glowing ends wouldn't be noticeable. At the conclusion of the concert we started the long walk back to the car park, and on the way DH dropped into a collection bin the garbage bag we had been handed on entry. I remarked to DH, "Wasn't that couple a real PITA?" "Yep," he replied. "And one each of their thongs were in that bag I just dropped into the bin." While they were up dancing, with their thongs (flip flops) under their seats, DH had reached forward, taken one from each pair, and placed them into our garbage bag. I don't imagine walking across that prickly paddock was a lot of fun, once they gave up looking for the missing thongs :-)

Were the cucumber sandwiches and cucumber water supposed to be a meal? In my early days, wedding receptions I went to were short, alcohol free, with just coffee and punch to drink, cake, and very small cups of nuts and sweet tidbits to eat. Not an entire meal, at all, in fact I don't even recall seating, but there was probably some. No dancing either. Cucumber sandwiches would not have seemed cheap in this atmosphere. But if someone is thinking that small, crustless, cucumber sandwiches and water make a meal, they are mistaken.

Funny you should say that, anneliese. The first time I saw the name was on a picture board on the net. A lady had knitted a bear, and had both a pink and blue bow on it.
The subject of the post was Gender Reveal.

At least I know what to do now, if I'm ever invited to a party.

Good grief. This is as ridiculous to me as giving the new mother a "push" present. What's that, you ask? The new daddy is supposed to give mommie-kins some expensive present right after she pushes the kid out. Like diamond earrings or whatever. Because of course every new mother needs a pair of expensive earrings.

Gimme gimme gimme, indeed!

Oh my, I'm behind the times because I have not heard of a "push" present.DH owes me three diamond rings, some 50 years late. That ought to give me his best "roll eyes".

Well, my DM received a strand of pearls for my birth. She had a very rough 9 months and a C-section. Yup, I was trouble from day one!

But a party to reveal the gender is just nuts. It will be either one or the other and there is no return policy if you don't get the gender you wanted. Frankly, parents should not know before the big day. Just my opinion.

If you are going to know beforehand and tell other people, I think it can be fun. The ones I know about, the parents don't know ahead of the party either. The doctor puts the answer in a closed envelope and that is handed over to a bakery to make a cake with the cake inside either being blue or pink.

The ones I know about where generally family affairs and no gifts involved. Just a fun party.
