I don't own them, but Fiesta makes a 14.25 oz bowl with higher sides. Also, maybe there's a better place to buy Fiesta, but I stumbled on webstaurantstore.com, and their prices look good if you're interested in buying by the case (12 per case for the dinnerware).

I've had Fiestaware for at least 15yrs. They have taken a lot of abuse and there's not a chip in them.
My husband's only request was a cup with a ring that he could get his finger in. I chose the set with the mug rather than the coffee "cup". Macy's does carry this set.
I like the bowl that comes with the set.

I have had Fiesta since 1988. Always LOVED the bowls that came with the places ettings. Never a problem eating soup or anything else...I find them a good size, and use them when I serve veggies/etc to my family at dinner. I have original 1930's berry bowls that my kids have their ice cream in as well. I have a few pasta bowls too, those stack flatter and more even than the regular bowls. I have service for 12 (with a few extra pieces thrown in that I find at GW or Marshalls/TJ Maxx). I have 2 stacks of bowls in my cabinet...never a problem storing them. I have the large serving bowls set up the same way.

So, I'm not sure what the issue is with the bowls, but after having Fiesta for almost 25 years, I haven't found a think I dislike about them.

I've seen the fiesta ware at Kohls and when you have a 30% off coupon you can get a real bargain.

I love my Fiestaware. What about the rimmed soup bowls? They stack really well, and look great when serving with soup. I love mine.

Love my fiestaware. We have the larger gusto bowls which are perfect for cereals, stews, etc. They aren't perfect for stacking but I can stack up to 4 (usually do 3 though) in my 9.5" deep drawer. We have a set of 8 in 8 different colors. After 5 years of use with 5 kids no chips or breaks!

I really like our Fiesta dishes. I understand exactly what you are describing with the awkwardness of the bowl that comes with the place setting. However, after using them for a while we got used to them and they work fine. I would maybe use them for a while before you buy different ones. I have found that none of the Fiesta bowls stack very well except for the rimmed ones that don't hold very much.

You can order Fiestaware directly from the Homer Laughlin Company -- 1-800-452-4462 -- use the "option" for the retail store -- the factory prices are FAR FAR less than buying them from Kohls, Macy's, or other stores. And, the retail store personnel are very nice to work with -- they can answer questions you may have about any Fiestaware piece. Enjoy your Fiestaware.

We have Fiestaware. We use the bowls that come with the place setting for everything...pasta, soup, cereal, rice, steak and potatoes...anything. They work great. I do have some rounder bowls my sister-in-law made (she works with pottery), but frankly we only use those when the Fiestaware is all in the dishwasher.

I have Fiestaware and love it. The house we rent every year at the beach has a large assortment and it looks great year after year which helped me decide it was a good choice for my family. (We have Scarlet, Cobalt Blue and Turquoise. Cobalt shows utensil scratches more than the other two colors.)

For Christmas I asked for pasta bowls. Boy, I was shocked when I opened the gift....the pasta bowls are huge! I meant to ask for the rimmed soup bowls which are exactly the size I like for serving pasta dishes. If you are ordering on Homer Laughlin's website (manufacturer of Fiestaware in West Virginia) they provide the dimensions of each piece so get a ruler and see how big the pieces are.

The only negative to Fiestaware that I can think of is that it is heavy.

Wow, I can't get over this incredible feedback! First of all, it makes me feel so happy about my decision to go with Fiestaware (after almost a year of scrounging websites for new dinnerware.) :-) Also, the descriptions of which bowls work best for certain situation are very helpful. Photos are a huge bonus! (Elwydee, which colors of Fiestaware do you have? I see a blue and green in there that are beautiful yet unfamiliar!)

I've been collecting Fiestaware for awhile, and periodically they discontinue some colors and release new ones. The blue and green you don't recognize are Seamist and Periwinkle, which aren't available anymore. Left-to-right and top-to-bottom, the colors in my picture are:

Turquoise, Seamist, Periwinkle, Peacock

Peacock, Seamist, Periwinkle

Lemongrass, Flamingo, Lemongrass

I love grouping different colors according to my whim and the food I'm serving. Inside my cabinets, it looks like a clown exploded.

Also, you might consider getting the 9-inch luncheon plates and the little fruit bowls. We use both of those pieces a lot.

I second the recommendation for the luncheon plates, we use those a lot. I also have the ramekins and LOVE them for all sorts of things -- prep bowls, a few cheerios for snack, individual quiches or cakes. I have some of the boullion bowls, too, but use the ramekins far more.

You can also find replacements or additional pieces for Fiestaware on eBay pretty readily -- just read the description carefully as some are seconds. I love the chartreuse color, so have added pieces in that color to complement my set.

I also have picked up a few pieces of the square Fiestaware to use as serving pieces. I don't particularly care for the serving bowls shaped like the set bowls for serving dishes, but the pedestal bowls are great and I'm ogling the new oval bowls, too. And the new baking bowl set looks yummy, too. Have fun!

The one thing I love about Fiestaware is that you can mix the vintage with the new. I have many pieces that are original 1930s and aside from some very slight color differences, the ivory berry bowls I have look perfectly next to my new ivory mugs. The marigold celery dish I have matches perfectly with the mugs too.

I stumbled on this old thread while trying to determine if Homer Laughlin made chowder bowls in chartreuse. Haven't found that color on the HL site or on Replacements.com. Does anyone know? A chartreuse chowder bowl would complete my table setting in that color!

I wouldn't use original 30's fiesta ware. they have both lead and uranium. both can leech into your food. ivory and orange /red are the worst.

This is a great comparison picture. I have the bowls on the left -- they are officially called Medium Bowls. I like them because they're a good size for an adult serving of soup ... or a casserole. They are very sturdy, and none of mine have even a chip -- and I've dropped them on my linoleum floor (I wonder if they would've survived tile floors). I like that the sides are very straight because it's easy to "chase" that last bit of food and scoop it up on your spoon.

I also have the Fruit Bowls, which are useful in an entirely different way.

I would like to add a few of those Gusto bowls for chili and similar meals, but since I already have the Medium Bowls, it's hard to justify.

However, two negatives about the Medium Bowls: 1) They take up a lot of space in the cabinet. 2) They must be spaced out "two prongs apart" in the dishwasher, meaning I get fewer dishes per load.

Changing the subject a little -- now I'm talking about plates: Someone mentioned Kohl's sells Fiestaware. Note that they sell what they call "buffet plates", which are a smaller plate. Yeah, I know, when you say "buffet", I think bigger, but it is what it is. I love them: We use them for small meals like sandwiches. My daughter has full-sized Fiestaware dinner plates, and the size /weight difference is surprising. The point: Kohl's is the ONLY PLACE that sells that buffet size plate, so if you start buying plates there, you're locked in for your plate purchases.

The buffet plates from Kohl's are the same diameter as the luncheon plates, they just have a different rim. Luncheon plates are available at a lot of different retailers.

Fiesta has a new Bistro place setting with the buffet plate rims and a more rounded bowl that is easier to stack than the medium bowl. Like we needed more choices!
