Wine suggestions?

I need to buy 3-4 bottles of wine for Thanksgiving.

I have a bottle of the Cupcake Chardonney which is pretty good, but would like to try something else.

Also, am not a red wine drinker, so really need some help with that one. I've bought Blackstone before, but get confused on which type of red wine is most universally accepted!

What are your favorites?

I'm a fan of pinot noir for red (various brands). It's not too dry IMO.

Well I searched the internet and found that the seeds do contain cyanide, but you'd have to consume a lot. Also some people beleive in eating the seeds to fight cancer and some websites say there are not confirmed cases of getting sick that way.

A coworker scoped out Total Wine for me.... he looked at champagne in Magnum and double-Magnum sizes. You can get decent champagne in the double-magnum size for 180. I can't decide what to get my Dad for xmas.... he has everything ....he doesn't have a really cool looking bottle of wine. My fear is that I'll get some wine he doesn't like. I'll have goen for quantity not the quality. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to check it out myself in the red wines....

You may be able to find an imported unit from Asia for under $1,000; however, you'll be getting what you pay for (not truly 2 zones, doesn't build in well, prone to not working after a year or 2). As far as true dual zone units, I know that U-Line, Marvel, and Sub Zero all make units that you may want to consider

Yeah, I try not to drink at all if I'm driving. I can't figure why anyone would have more than a glass or two if someone is driving. Granted, a large male who drinks regularly should be able to handle more than a smaller female who doesn't really drink... but why would any adult who has to drive drink enough that they would get sick? Just very irresponsible, IMO. Reargding how much is enough... I think you may need to take into consideration that different wines do have different alchohol contents. There is one wine I drink that has a very low content. I can drink it all night (of course, I'm not driving these nights) and still not feel anything, while sometimes I have a glass of a different type of wine and feel the effects right away. I don't hear people talk about different alchohol contents in wine much, but it can matter a lot. Of course how long you are going to be out, how much you are eating, and how often you drink can largely effect things too. Here is a link that might be useful: Alchohol in Wine

A nice dry red would be a Cotes du Rhone. They work very well with fowl. It's probably one of our favorite "go to" wines because they pair well with many different entrees. Domaine de la Bastide (one of my favorites) or Domaine la Bouvaude Rousset les Vignes are nice choices and won't break the bank.

A very good dry rose is Domaine Begude Pinot Rose...dry, light and goes well from appetizers to first course.

And I second pinot noirs because they're not just for red meats. Castle Rock Willamette Valley pinot noir delivers consistently.

I'm also white wine fan. I adore Soave.

Not much help with the reds, but Monte Castrillo Rosado (Rose) is lovely.

We've had good luck with reds from Rodney Strong or Benziger, delicious and not too expensive. Had some delicious reds from Caymus too, but were pricey.

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo seems to be consistently good too. We've been to Italy recently and this was our favorite type of red (besides the Umbrian Sagrantinos, but they aren't available here in the States).

Beujolais Nouveau is the perfect turkey day wine. It's young and fruity and goes great with the big bird.

Lillet a french wine that tastes like apple, DELICIOUS. Although I wouldn't serve it for Thanksgiving.

I absolutely love Beringer's Gewurztraminer! it's a German wine, sweet, with a subtle taste of apples. Having been to both France and Germany and tasted the wines of both countries, I prefer those of Germany and Austria. I found this wine to be very indicative to the wines of Germany.

"GewÃ¯Â¿Â½rztraminer = Gewurztraminer = Traminer Pronunciation: guh-VURTZ-trah-mean-er Notes: German and domestic versions of this white wine are somewhat sweet, flowery, and relatively low in alcohol. They're very good with curry and spicy Asian food. Imports from Alsace tend to be drier and are excellent with seafood and poultry."

Check out a vineyard near Columbus. It's located in Powell. There are delicious choices in your backyard.

Duove is an awesome red!

That is where we stock up on wine when visiting our daughter in UA.

I agree that a Pinot Noir would be a good choice as a neutral red. I like that varietal but never pick it up for some reason so can't recommend a maker.

A red blend would be a safe bet. Here are some popular ones in my area. All around the $10 range.

Columbia Crest Two Vines Merlot-Cabernet Blend
Folie a Deux - Menage a Trios
Apothic Red (I tried it and thought it was on the sweet side)
Meeker - Roller Coaster red blend

Someone at a wine store once told us to buy anything from the Paso Robles region in California. That's what I do and it's never failed. There are lots of different kinds from the region (Merlot, Cabernet, Zinfandel and others). Just look for "Paso Robles" on the label.

This is probably too late for Thanksgiving, but thought I'd pass along the tip anyway.
