I am going to have my vision checked by a Walmart optometrist tomorrow.....wonder if I can get the eye glass cleaner while I am there.

Do yourself a favor and don't use a cloth to clean your glasses. They collect dust and grit, which--since you use them over and over--will eventually scratch your lenses. Which, of course, is just fine with low-end opticians, since it means you'll need to replace them more often. Your best bet is to use delicate task wipers and use ONLY ONCE and toss. I keep a big box of them in each house. They look like tissues but are safer because they're designed to clean delicate instruments, etc. You don't want to use tissues, either--they have chips and bits in them that will damage your lenses. My DD was getting all set to yell at me recently when I took my glasses to her to be fixed and she thought I'd wrapped the lens in a tissue--then she realized that I HAD been listening to her and had used a delicate task wiper. At that point, she nodded and smiled.

Your glasses cost too much, your eyes are too valuable to take chances with either.

I printed off the coupon, hopefully they accept this at the walmarts in Canada.

I cut up microfiber cloths an use. Best cleaner around and needs no liquid. I wouldn't have believed how superior even to lens cleaning tissues but once I tried them I don't go back.

Not so important when I buy dollar-store reading glasses at $1.00 each.

When I can buy a pair of glasses for a dollar - I figure that there must be some slave labour, or near to it, involved, somewhere (or several "somewhere"s).

My eye doctor gives us the same thing and tells us to bring the bottle in when it is empty and he will refill it at no charge.

Azzalea is right that the clothes get dirty. I'm an optician and I am amazed how many people never wash them!

Those delicate task wipes are good, we use them at work, but the clothes are okay if washed often. I recommend using mild dish soap and letting them air dry.

And the most important thing to keep your glasses from getting scratches is to rinse them under running water before wiping them.

I have a 1 oz. bottle that my ophthalmologist gave me some time ago. When I went in one time to get my frames tightened, the optician gave me an 8 oz. bottle. I told him I rarely use the cleaner; I just hold my glasses under the faucet and run hot water over them for a sew seconds and dry them on a clean towel. He said actually the hot water is the best cleaner.

My DF said paper money was the best cleaner. I've done that many times when I was away from home and needed to clean my glasses.

My prescription lenses are so scratched up it isn't funny. I never use kleenex, only use a dry cloth to clean them, but not the special task wipes you describe. And I have not been rinsing the glasses first.

When I get my new lenses I will rinse faithfully and use the special cleaner, wipes or microfiber.

Petaloid, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the anti reflective(AR) coat on your glasses that is so scratched. There are a few excellent AR coatings but many of the cheaper ones scratch or craze very easily and are hard to clean.

If they are less then 2 years old(and especially if less then a year)you should see if they have a warranty on them.

When you get your new lenses buy the best AR that they offer.

Thanks for the good advice, happyladi. Mine are more than two years old, but I recently went to the eye doctor and got a new prescription. When I figure out which frames I want I will "focus" on the best AR coating.

Like Nita, ours refills for free... and since we live more than 25 miles away, all we need to do is call and they mail me a bottle for no charge whatsoever...

If you go to a private doctor or shop ask for Crizal Avance or Crizal Sapphire. These are excellent ARs that are very scratch resistant and easy to clean. They stay clean well, too.
