I have a very tiny Bulova ringed with 18 tiny diamonds in white gold my grandmother gave me when I graduated HS in 1965. I've worn it almost everyday these 40 odd years except when I'm doing housework or gardening. I wind it every morning, it has always kept perfect time. I broke the crystal once and had it replaced, and lost the winding stem once and had it replaced, but that's it. I've replaced the wrist bands several times, though.

My Mom's Bulova from 1941 (the year she graduated HS and HER grandma gave it to her) is still ticking, too.

I don't know if they even make wind-up watches anymore.

I don't really see people wearing watches much any more, do you? My husband does--he's addicted to them.

But I think young people just use their cell phones to check the time.

I find a watch inconvenient and annoying--so I stopped wearing one many, many years ago. I have a pretty pocket watch that I keep clipped onto my purse, that slips into one of the front pockets. Other times, I'll use a clip watch on my purse. And I do have a cell phone. As far as around the house, we have at least 2 clocks in every room of our house (told you DH had an addiction--LOL)--so no watch needed. There's even a big clock on the front of the garage, if I'm out doing yard work.

Guess that doesn't help you with your dilemma, does it. I'd say, just go to the store, look around, and pick the one that looks and feels the best to you.

unlike you, I LOVE the digital. Mostly, cause of the alarms, stop watch and timer it has.

I have alarms set, to go off daily for different things, such as taking my pills, and when I should get off the puter if I want to watch the local nightly news.

I use the timer function for my vertigo exercises, and the stop watch for MANY things I feel like timing. :)

I gave up on big number watches with illumination, cause I can't read my watch in the dark in the tent anyway without glasses, thus, I might as well have a dainty size one. :)

These days a $20 watch will do the job just as well as anything so get what you like. That being said, I wear an incredibly expensive Cartier tank watch with a stainless steel band. My daughter bought it for me several years ago when she got her first job out of college.

Sherrmann, I have a fancy Caravelle Bulova I got when I was 11 in 1964 (what was my dad thinking, giving me such a fancy watch anyway?). I took it apart one day to count the 17 jewels (rubies and diamonds) and it hasn't worked since.

In my adult life, every watch I have ever bought has been a Seiko until earlier this year when I got a Rolex from a group of co-workers as thanks for a particularly tough project I worked on for them. Unfortunately I had just decided shortly before that to stop wearing watches altogether (which is probably why they thought I needed a watch in the first place :-).

I have a variety of watches, most have been given to me. My dad gave me a Timex Indiglo watch about 11 years ago. It's been thru numerous batteries and 2 watch bands. I love it because the dial lights up. When I am travelling to agility trials, I can tell what time it is in the middle of the night without having to wake up my companions. The indiglo just died, and I doubt if they make them any more. I inherited my mom's Rolex and I wear that a lot when the band on the timex bothers me (gets hot in the summer). I collect wolf stuff, so my friends over the years have given me lots of wolf watches. I inherited my grandmother's diamond watches but don't wear it as I can't see the time very well. Sure adds some sparkle to the holidays though!! When I was in Junior High and High School, I got a new watch every 6 months or so. (birthday and Christmas) because I was always dunking them in the horse trough. I was VERY hard on watches in those days, and they weren't waterproof. They should have invested in a diver's watch LOL, it might have been cheaper in the long run.

I hate to hear that, Sushipup, because I also wear a Pulsar solar watch. I got mine on Ebay for a fraction of a new one, after much looking. I loved the one I got for Woody so I found a nice ladies' version of the same watch for me. It's a bit chunky on my little wrist but I wear it loose like a bracelet and just love it. Anything happens to this one and I'm getting another. I really enjoy never having to buy a battery.

I have sitting here in my computer drawer....an old "Whitnaur"...wind up. That I bought at J.L.Brandies store in 1966. I bought one for me and one for Dennis...we both still have them and could use them if we wanted.

And I have a Lucien Piccard "Defonte" with four diamonds that I bought at the auction for 50cents. It works.
Also a Fossil that I bought at the auction for 50 cents. It also works...

But I don't wear a watch much. They bother me, and batteries don't last long in them for me. Don't know why.

I love to wear bracelets...so I think I'd like to get one of those beaded bracelet watches. Maybe I'd wear it then.

Lately I haven't been wearing a watch, just using my cellphone. But sometimes I miss the convenience of it. I do have a couple in the jewelry box.

Hubby bought me a fancy Elgin a couple of years ago with a black band and diamonds. And then I have a regular one with leather band for daily wear.

Anne Klein or something like that. The little hand is in the way at the moment so I can't read the whole thing.

Let's just say that I am going to bawl when it stops working. It's very comfortable and still looks good. I wear it for any occasion.

I no longer wear a watch. I get kidney dialysis and can't wear one on my left hand. I use my cell phone and clock in my car for telling time. Years ago I found a man's Philippe Patek watch on the ground outside my office. I asked all around and put it in Lost and FOund for several weeks, but no one claimed it. I got it back and gave it to my husband. He still has it. In fact he's taking it in for a battery replacement today.

I have a Stuhrling Alpine LaFemme stainless link watch. It has a domed glass crystal and a mother of pearl face. I LOVE it. It wasn't that expensive and I love the look, kinda chunky and a little dressy. DH got it for my birthday.

Citizens Titanium Eco -drive. It is also solar and I had the same issue after about 6-7 years, but I'm thinking it was some issue other than the battery (or possibly in addition to.) I could not find another one that I liked nearly as much and although it was pricey relative the orignal cost, we got it repaired. I love it.

I stopped wearing a watch at my manager's suggestion. She felt it made me too anal about time, and had a tendency to create anxiety in me. Now I don't care WHAT time I get to work...lol.

GardenSpice, do you recall what was wrong with the watch? I do like this one. Sigh.

My job was time orientated...right down to the minute...so I haven't worn a watch since I retired two years ago. I use my cell if needed.
I always liked the basic Timex with big numbers, a light and an alarm. Inexpensive and durable.

Flamey, I do plan to wear the Rolex on occasion but I can rent it out to you from time to time for a couple scrubbies and a book cover, I do all my laundry indoors so don't need a pinny. :-)

I have a Citizen that I have been wearing for the past 20 years. I still have the little Bulova surrounded with diamonds that I wore before it and it keeps perfect time. I prefer a larger watch now.

A gold anniversary Mickey Mouse watch, a gold Tissot and my daily watch is a Skagen with tiny diamonds on the face.

I wear a 13 year old Guess watch. It cost about $100 back then and it's never given me trouble at all. I change the battery every 5 years and that's it!

I have a Seiko. Rich gave it to me for a gift last year when I lost my beloved watch my father gave me 20 years ago.

Pawsitive, indiglows are still around. I bought one recently.

Hi Sushipup I just checked and it was apparently the "movement" - which really should not have failed.
But the behavior was that it would not hold a charge, regardless of how much light it got.
That was annoying , but it has been right as rain ever since- no regrets about fixing this one, especially because at the time, I did not like their new models.

I have 2 watches that I rotate between and both are Movado. They're more bracelet type watches. I actually found another one I wanted and am hoping Santa brings it to me for Christmas! I've been a good girl.

My Fav Watch is Ann Klein with lots of Crystals. I got it for Valentines Day 2 years ago. My second Fav is one with a Turquoise Band my Cuz bought me.

For Years I wore a Seiko and layed it on a towel at the Beach. My DD ran up a picked up the towel and the Seiko flew in the air landing in the sand never to be seen again. I vowed never to have a expensive piece of jewelry again.

I wear just the cheap old Timex's from wal mart.That way i don't have to worry about it when i go from gardening to painting,to crafting.If i mess it up,i just get a new one.But they usually last me 4 to 5 years or more.

Oh and i have to wear digital,anything else will stop within an hour or so.

I feel nekkid without my watch. Guess that is from all the years I worked in the nursing field and had to have a watch.

I have one of the cheapest ones from Wal Mart and they last me 4 to 5 years before I buy another. It's cheaper to buy a new 'cheap' watch than buy batteries when they stop. If I could find one I would buy a windup one, the last one I had lasted for ages.

I wear a Tag Heuer. It's a women's Link, model WJF1353.BB0581.

I wear a Casio Data Bank for practical reasons. I got my first one about 20 yrs ago and found it so useful that I replaced it with a similar model 10 yrs ago. The batteries last about 5 years and I replaces these myself.

The watch continuously displays day, date, year, and time of day in either 12 hr or 24 hr format. It has a count-down timer and a stop watch with a split function. In the data bank, I store a few phone numbers and important dates such as birthdays and anniversary. I could put a memo set to display a day before my anniversary to remind me of it. (Before that watch, I forgot my wedding anniversary once and that was painful!) When I was still employed (now retired) I found these additional features useful plus the display was large and easy to read.

One caveat: When I traveled by air for the company on any plane that had the distance capability to fly to a foreign landing strip, our security chief advised that I delete any personal information that could be used to locate and/or contact or identify members of my family. That bit! It negated some of the most useful reminder features of my watch, but was a necessary precaution.

Lindsey, that watch is exactly the type that I like. That's a beauty!

Usually my fave is my Movado but wear a Rolex as well. And have a scarab Joan Rivers.....hard to tell which I will wear....I have a few, I love watches.

Woody has a Rolex that his Dad gave him. He was wearing it when he was out in Albuquerque at a testing lab and he got frisked when he went in because it had a radium dial(I think, he's not here to ask) in it. He set off all kinds of testing equipment and alarms. lol When they figured out it was the watch, they relaxed but asked him if he intended to have children, as he wears his watch on the inside of his wrist. rofl

I have had Timex Indiglo watches for the last 20 years. Each watch lasts for years and years. I like the fact they glow when you push a button. This one has embossed leather oxblood color band. It has a white face with black arabic numbers with sweep second hand. Water resistant to 30 meters. The best thing about it I got it and a spare for $10 each on sale last year. I am hard on watches because I wear them all day with gardening, cleaning and crafts so can't see buying expensive ones.

i don't wear one, but can relate to aptosca's post. ds1 left his when he got married and dil had bought him a new one for the wedding...i keep it on the side table in the guest room and it's still running fine ..(they got married in 2000) i love the fact you can press that little button and it lights up...

I wear an old Timex....at least 12 years old, I bought at a drug store one day when I realized I went to work without my watch. I am an RN (retired, now) and needed one with a second hand. I have replaced the battery once and the band once. I still have the wind up Timex I have had for 30 years so so but didn't like the color.

By the way, a word of warning about buying watches from Costco --- although Costco will carry watches by Tag Heuer, Movado, etc., Costco is not an authorized seller. So, the manufacturer will not honor the warranty. Costco gives a warranty that requires you to submit the watch to some other company for any repairs, etc.

We bought my Tag Heuer at Topper Jewelers in Burlingame, CA. Topper is an authorized Tag Heuer retailer.

I've been wearing a Movado (with the black leather strap) for over 20 years. I'm thinking of buying another Movado in the bracelet style.

I got out of the habit of wearing a watch during my hippie phase(LOL) and never started wearing one again. My husband just can't wrap his head around anyone being watchless. LOL

I have no sense of time, so if I am away from home, I like to have a watch on my wrist. But like Fran says, my sons prefer to just use their cell phones for the time. And I just buy a cheap $20 watch and get several years' use from it.

I used to wear one but somehow over the years I stopped. I can pretty well judge it now and rely on my cell phone if I really want to know

I have a Timex my DH gave me for Christmas about 15 years ago. I've only replaced the battery twice, and believe me that watch has been abused! I like it because the band is slim, and the watch itself is oval, parallel with the band. I've never seen one like it on anyone else's wrist and thank him for his good taste.

I wasn't allowed to wear a watch or any jewelry actually, for the 37 years I worked at a food manufacturing plant. I've been retired for a year now, but haven't even thought about buying or wearing a watch.

When I wear one (which hasn't been much since I retired) I wear a big old TImex watch that my Daddy gave me when I was about 50. He laughed and said, "Here, Sis, I've got a watch here that you can see the numbers on!" LOL

It didn't have a band on it, so I bought a big red, expansion type band and put on it and I love the way it looks. It's one of my favorite pieces of "fine" jewelry! LOL

I have a Guess watch that I got on double sale (40% off and then 40% off the sale price). It took me ages to find a watch where I could see the time without having to dig my glasses out of my purse. It has a black watchface with silver hands. The strap is a stainless steel link strap so it looks like a bracelet. I really like it.

I really miss a gold toned Seiko Lassale ultra-thin battery-powered watch. Watch and integral link band were 1/4 inch thick. They don't make them anymore. Don't repair 'em either. Now I have a Citizen Eco-Drive, silver & gold mesh band.

In the safe dposit box is a Baume-Mercier gold mesh bracelet watch for evening wear that DH gave me MANY years ago -- before the end of the gold standard, I think. (I sure wouldn't spend what it's insured for today!)

I had a cute ring-watch when I was a preteen. However, I forgot I was wearing it one day when I got into the bathtub. Oh, well!
