Dip for strawberries

What is the ridiculously easy, yet delicious dip for strawberries and other fruit? My brain is on overload.

Is it sour cream, brown sugar + ?.

I saw one recipe for sour cream, maple syrup & brown sugar , but that didn't sound right for some reason.

I am planning on substituting FAGE Total 0% Greek Strained Yohurt. Will see how it subs out and tastes - not telling anyone ~ as long as it passes my taste taste :) We have learned to love it instead of sour cream (esp the Lowfat sour cream)--really cannot taste the difference on baked potatoes. That has been an easy heart healthy choice/switch. I do not like regular yogurt, so I was surprised.

Anyway~I can't remember the dip recipe and I need it for for Friday - thanks for your help.

I like granulated sugar the best, or superfine granulated sugar. The berries have to be a bit damp for lots of sugar to stick, but it's still the best way to eat fresh strawberries, at least in my family.

Chocolate syrup? Or sugar.

Will people be dipping their own or are you preparing them in advance and putting them on a platter?

I can't imagine maple syrup on strawberries, but sour cream or yogurt are good.

Jude, that is the weird and wonderful thing about that coleslaw "secret." I just buy the bagged colseslaw ( buy 1/2 purple and 1/2 white if you want to be adventurous, lol!) and pour on the dressing. I brought it to a potluck picnic at work once when I was working at a biological research station (small group) and it was just my "desperation" offering, and it was a big hit. I don't know the name of the brand of poppyseed dressing I used, but it came from the fridge/produce section of the grocery, and it was probably a somewhat higher end product. After that point, you can throw in whatever else you like in your coleslaw. One interesting addition I like sometimes are peas, which you can toss in the frozen ones out of a bag real simple. But that's not part of my poppyseed coleslaw secret recipe. Another easy peasy dressing, which I think would work good with coleslaw although I eat it on salads a lot, is mayo with a healthy glob of dijon mustard and dill weed. A friend turned me on to that quick and dirty secret dressing. I call it "California Dan's Secret Dressing." Don't tell anyone! You could add honey if you like coleslaw sweeter and thin it with milk or yogurt of whatever. Another quick and dirty coleslaw secret is to add celery seed if you don't have celery to put in it or like celery from a texture standpoint. That's something else I learned from my mom, she put celery seed in a lot of things because dad had "celery issues." :)

Best melting 'white chocolate' chips

I have had the same problem. I tried a package of ghiradelli, and I agree with the others. These are the best by far. I found that microwave works best for melting them. Also, if you are having trouble getting white chocolate smooth enough, a tsp of shortening will smooth it out a lot.

Like Jo, I find that white chocolate doesn't really melt very well, even with a little bit of vegetable oil. It stays too thick to dip, it's better for drizzling. I've done a couple of batches in the microwave and they've turned to stone, very nearly. Dark chocolate I have better luck with, I'm using Trader Joe's Pound Plus and it's worked well. I haven't found a white "chocolate" that I'm happy with, not even the wilton type melts or the white bark for melting. It just doesn't melt very thinly. I also agree that the new microwaves will heat too hot too quickly. I melted stuff in my old microwave without incident, but my new one is just too hot. Add the pyrex bowl and there's a recipe for disaster, ask me. Sigh. Readinglady was kind enough to send me her Farberware double boiler, I don't think I've ever owned one. I use it for white chocolate, because it's so finicky, and it works as well as anything. So, Linnea, you are definitely not alone with this. Annie

My favorite variation of that is to put out a bowl of plain sour cream and a bowl of light brown sugar. Dip the berries in the sour cream and then roll in brown sugar. I always have an extra bowl of sugar in reserve for replacing when the brown sugar if it starts to get wet-looking.

I also like to mix cream cheese with a little bit of grated orange zest and Chambord. Then I quarter and spread out the bottom end of the strawberries, leaving the top part intact and pipe the cheese mixture into them.

We begin our Friday night Racing (Sailboats) this Friday.
I feed the 'crew' afterwards on the boat; I refuse to cook or even reheat, so all the food has to keep for a few hours, served in unbreakables, few utensils, and be easily covered & stowed should the weather not cooperate. I like to bring fruit, and I recall this dip was a winner. Another guy is a great cook, and he usually contributes tremendously, but I try to be prepared to feed 6 a casual dinner of finger foods, etc.
Sailors are pretty relaxed people :) and our boat is the Gourmet food boat - no bags of just potato chips!

Since DH's heart surgery last fall, this year will be more challenging ~ why I am going to try the Greek yogurt.

I still try to make an interesting presentation, because that's just me. Piping the mixture like ruthanna described is very interesting.

I like to mix:

cream cheese
marshmallow fluff
crushed pineapple

I add a couple drops of red food coloring to make it pink. Dip away!

When I was little my mother served it the way Ruthanna said (dip in sour cream, dip in brown sugar) when the berries were a bit sour. Nowadays they're almost always sweet, and when they aren't they're more woody than sour, and no one needs the cream and sugar, so none of us put anything on them any more.

Dip in sour cream. Dip in brown sugar.

Nothing is simpler and it would be hard to improve on.

I'm with Shaun, but I leave out the pineapple and the food coloring. Y'know, you don't even need strawberries for it...just get your own portion, dip your finger in it, lick, dip again. See what inventive ways you can get fruit dip withuot the fruit???
