Eeek--another gift-giving question (immediate)

I bought this item at TJ Maxx (in solid red), thinking it was an unusual and cute server for deviled eggs. I wanted to give it to my daughter-in-law with a couple of my favorite deviled egg recipes.

But now that I'm wrapping it, I'm thinking the depressions look too deep for deviled eggs, and maybe this is supposed to do something else. Like sit in the fridge, maybe (a waste of such a pretty piece)? Or maybe it would work for deviled eggs if the eggs weren't cut lengthwise as is usually done?

Anyone have any idea how this should be used? Thanks!

It looks like it is intended to hold a dozen whole eggs. I do think if it were for deviled eggs the depressions would be oval and less deep. I would still be happy to receive one of these for a gift. You could even use it for holding jewelry.

Looks like a good thing for displaying Easter eggs.

Definitely not for the standard deviled eggs....

If the clock isn't working, Amazon will generally pay for the return shipping (or at least they have done so for everything I have ordered from them that has been defective.) You (not your BIL) will probably need to fill out the return request becuase you do that from the record of the order on your amazon account. When you check "defective" as the reason for the return, it should give you a postage paid label - if not, I would contact them because they should cover the return shipping. They have amazing customer service. Being that the clock is back ordered now, you could just request and wait for the replacement or you could request a refund and either buy the clock somewhere else or just give your BIL the money and let him buy something else. I had a couple of holiday surprise guests too--at noon, with the gathering scheduled to start at 2 pm, my son asked if it was ok for his ex-girlfriend to come! They split quite awhile ago (he broke up with her) but I knew they were still reasonably cordial. I'm not sure exactly what the status of their relationship is now but I have always liked that girl so it was nice to see her. And my daughter asked if a close friend could come. Friend is a Jewish vegan so it was a little challenge for me to ensure there was food she could eat. It all worked out and I am so glad I always have a few gift items on hand. Gave ex-girlfriend a Godiva chocolate bar sampler and a nice candle. Daughter's friend got an iTunes gift card and a joke book of the world's worst album covers (she and my daughter are both into the indie rock scene here). They both seemed to have a great time. Son and ex(??) went home to her place together, and my daughter's friend told her afterward 'Christmas is fun-I might have to find a Christian boy to marry!' :). Ann

One year I finally got smart. I bought all my in-laws clothing items at an expensive (to me)department store and included the receipts for each purchase when I wrapped the gifts. I got tired of being handed back gifts on Christmas with all sorts of excuses; "I can't wear wool. It scratches"."This isn't my size." "This color doesn't go with the things I already own." (Since when doesn't a woman own black pants or a skirt? The top was very pretty pale lavender.) Some people just can't be pleased. Have your DH shop for anyone on his side of the family.

DH and I were married in a suburb of Chicago over fifty years ago. I've never attended a wedding or reception where gifts were displayed. People didn't bring gifts to weddings. Even a registry was open to question because it could be viewed as an expectation of gifts. The invitee was simply being asked to honor the couple by witnessing a ceremony and celebrating with them. Gifts of cash were considered impersonal. This protocol, of course, resulted in newlyweds making many trips to multiple stores to return duplicates and gifts they would never use. We did have a registry, but still had many returns, resulting in...cash. LOL Gifts *are* brought to bridal showers, where they are opened in public. The invitation to a wedding (and reception) is usually extended by the family of the bride or by the couple. An RSVP goes to the parents or the couple. Gifts are sent ahead of the wedding to the bride or the couple. Thank you notes are expected ASAP, although Emily Post gave newlyweds up to a year. If the wedding is cancelled, all gifts are to be returned immediately. Gift-wrapping exists because you are giving *A Gift*! All this formality is in support of what is presumed to be a binding, once-in-a-lifetime commitment.

I have a white one, that hold 9 eggs~~it is all white and I got it at Ross. Works great for me, I always have h/b eggs in the refer for a quick snack~~~The one you got is really pretty~~

That is very cute but it appears to be just to store eggs and doesn't seem that practical for that purpose and would take up extra space. I think that it would be a cute gift for people that want everything really cute. As another said, you could certainly use it for something else like jewelry. I would use it as a cute organizer I believe.

People used to take their eggs out of the cardboard box, and store them in other specialy made containers. Perhaps it's one of those (although they were usually covered).

I'd still include the devilled egg recipes--that would be perfect for devilled eggs if you just cut the top of the egg off, and used the bottom to stuff.

It's a really nice piece--I'm sure she'll love it and find a great use for it.

I'd give her the recipes too.

I'd use it for all kinds of things. Candles... veggie trays, nuts and candies for company, AND she could cut the end off of the eggs and make deviled eggs a little differently! lol

Yes, give her the recipes. It's a cute piece but it is made for holding a dozen eggs, not deviled eggs.

Bet that could work for deviled eggs too even if not the purpose - nestle them on a bit of lettuce maybe for presentation? You may have cleverly purchased multi-functional :)

It looks like a ceramic version of the cardboard tray that holds a dozen eggs. Yes, include a recipe for devilled eggs, Susan.

Thanks, guys! We have two birthdays this week; the other is my granddaughter, who is living in a big house she shares with two other students. I'm thinking "cute" might work better for her, since she doesn't have a baby to care for. Plus she has lots of earrings, etc., while my daughter-in-law rarely wears jewelry. Both are vegetarians, so the hard boiled eggs/deviled eggs would be a good fit. I'll decide by tomorrow which one I'll give it to. Your ideas have helped!
