I was just seeing this on MSNBC website. Some are scarily identical looking, others not so much.

I knew a young woman who looked like a famous movie star. I often wondered if she had been adopted because she looked so much like her.

Have you ever noticed engagement photos in the paper where the bride and groom look like they could be brother and sister? I see that more often than not. Maybe people are attracted to people who share their own facial features? I don't notice this among married couples I personally know though.

I'm often mistaken for Angelina Jolie. >>>Kidding.

I have noticed that, Lydia. Somehow those couples look like they're well suited to each other. That said, my DH and I looked nothing alike. ;-)

If not twins....definitely siblings.

I have been told many times that I look just like someone else that someone knows. I have no idea if people are talking about the same person....because it is always strangers that say it to me.

I think this is amazing. When Joann asked for new pictures and I saw Jasdip's picture, I thought it was someone I knew from Mandan ND. I think thdy could be twins. Same hair styles and smile and everything. While everyone else was commenting about her husband I had to go back and look at him because I hadn't even noticed him.
I had a sister who passed away when she was 40. We looked a lot alike. Even after she passed away people that I didn't know would come up to me and ask me if I was her sister. I think probably when we were younger some people thought we were twins. She was 3 years older than me though.

They say everyone has a twin. After seeing these pics I believe it!

Likes DO attract. In fact, that's something we always warned adoptees and birth family about when they were searching.

When a new baby comes home from the hospital, the family starts 'claiming' him. "Look, he has at Grandma's eyes, Dad's ears, etc." As he grows, there's more claiming, often of traits or talents. But when an adoptee meets his family as an adult the 'like-ness' can create an attraction between people who have been strangers until that moment. It can feel sexual.

Nobody believed it would happen to them, but it happened often. Forewarned, people could recognize it and explain it to the found family member with the 'crush'. This usually worked -- not always. We advised going slowly, allowing time for a delayed *family* claiming to develop.

That was FUN to look at!!!!!! and the animals....liked THAT too!

Marilyn~~~I always have people telling me I look like soo and soo, some have even greeted me in a friendly manner like they know me. It does not happen just in the area I live. It has happened when I am traveling in other cities even. I tell them I must have a very ordinary face to have so many people say that about me;) They will even chat with me a bit telling me no you look just like her~~she is such a nice person and on and on~~I want to meet this person or persons I have always wanted a sister;)

YogaLady, it is good that we look like someone they like...because that is what they always tell me too.

...I am often told I look like Meg Ryan...plus 30 pounds or so!

Chisue: My ex husband unknowingly dated his half-sister in high school. Everyone thought they were the perfect couple.
The girls mother confronted him when they started to get serious and confessed she had an affair with his father. He broke up with her and kept the secret.

I wonder if she knew how much she was asking of him and the emotional damage she did to a heartbroken teenage boy.
He not only kept the secret from his "girlfriend/sister" but also his mother.

salgal -- Oh, so sad! Did the girl know why they had to break up?

My year-older cousin stopped at our home unexpectedly. We were to attend the wedding of one of my childhood friends. My fiance was invited, and the bride's family invited my cousin when they learned he was in town. At the reception dinner my cousin graciously danced with all the ladies at our table, including me. People assumed my cousin was my fiance: "They make such a lovely couple!"

My DH is the middle of his birthmother's five children, and the only one surrendered for adoption. She'd had two boys with her first husband, then my DH with the man she married later (after his divorce), then two girls with him. My DH and his youngest sister are virtual twins -- male and female versions of the same genes. Maybe it's a *good* thing the girls never wanted contact with us!

Chisue, no he never told her. He did not want to destroy her family, or his. Very mature for 18.
He said he very well might have married her otherwise.

I far as I know I was the only person he ever told.

I have a twin out there - at least one. And she must like to gamble - my parents spotted her in Atlantic City around 20 years ago and about a year and a half ago my sister spotted her at the local casino LOL. They were SURE that it was me. People have been telling me I look like someone all of my life, usually not anyone famous, just someone they know.

Paula -- You really need to 'fess up about that gambling. LOL I always wonder why you wouldn't get contact details when someone tells you they KNOW your 'double'.

My DH has a funny story about relatives.

He played softball with his cousin for a few years on a local team. He doesn't really look like his cousin since my DH is VERY tall and skinny and his cousin was shorter,and quite solid. There was another teammate that everyone thought were the cousins, which we thought was just because they were similar in size and personality.

Fast forward a few years and DH's family had a funeral to attend. The friend from the softball team appears and says "Guess what??" My grandmother is a sister to your grandmother, so all three (my DH, his cousin and the friend) were cousins!

Small world!
