Well I just did...

My daughter just called...Denny answered...

He brought me the phone. I was talking to her but could barely hear her...So I told her I was going to see if I could turn it up...and that I couldn't imagine how Denny could hear her at all...

I took the phone away from my ear to turn it up and noticed it was upside down....

I totally lost it...Laughing so hard I didn't think I'd make it...

I can hear her saying...Mom...you are such a looser..I know what you did...

She figured it out right away because she couldn't hear me either..

I couldn't even talk , I was laughing so hard...

I'm wearing my capitol "L" on my forhead today....

Please somebody tell me you do dumb things too...I don't wanta be alone....

@sunnibel: Apologies! I think of the east as so crowded, I forget there ARE rural areas :). Re: Cardboard: I have had no quackgrass come up through it at all, for 5 years after cardboard + 4" compost was put down. At that point, I let my tenants have the bed and they allowed the quackgrass to come in from the side. Quackgrass is incredibly invasive, and I have found its runners in a dense layer 24" down. But it is very sensitive to shading. I have a bed, just north of my neighbors' two story house, which gets full sun at midsummer but only a couple hours the rest of the year. The amount of quackgrass it has, if it was in a sunny bed and let go, would take over and kill everything else in the bed within a month or two. But that bed, I don't even pull it. It's been at a steady state for 5 or 6 years, and it doesn't bother the potatoes. There is spearmint and bindweed in that bed, too -- same deal, though I do pull the aboveground growth off the bindweed. That bed is isolated from the rest of the garden by a driveway. If it wasn't, the quackgrass would use it as a base of operations to invade the rest of the garden (and the world!). Re: Water: Sunnibel asked about summer rain. We don't haz it. Lawns here are brown in summer and green in winter. Controlling water is a significant part of how I control weeds. I water the garden deeply once a month in summer, for established plants. Newer plants and water-lovers like beans and raspberries, every two weeks. This helps a lot :). If the plants I want have deep roots and the weeds don't get a chance to develop them, there is not much competition. Is this water thing related to why tilling doesn't seem to do much good, here?

I'm a married man with a 10 week old child and a shih tzu. I do dishes, laundry, take out the trash, mow the yard, keep a fruit and vegetable garden, build and fix whatever, work over 40hrs a week, and try to keep "MY" flower beds looking decent lol. My wife could care less most days if the yard was mowed or if the flower beds looked like anything. For some reason I have a crazed anxious urge to stay on the move all the time. I very rarely crash and take lazy days, even though the laziness is well deserved and well needed. I love more than anything to mow the grass and to garden in the flower beds. I'm always feeling guilty that it just isn't right. Bare spots here and there in the grass, a few weeds in the flower beds, flowers in the wrong spot, more to buy, more to plant, more more more to split and give away.... lots of it is overwhelming. And at times I feel stressed and guilty over all of it, possibly that I'm neglecting something.. maybe my wife and child lol. My urges lie in the progression of everything else...but then again I'm human and more precisely a man lol so go figure. I never claimed to be romantic =P

Larry, I have to agree with you about The Far Pavillions. My sister in law kept telling me how wonderful it was and how much I would like it. I'd take it out of the library, look at it and end up taking it back, unread, a few weeks later. She even gave me a paperback copy for my birthday (she was persistant) that sat on my bookshelf for months. Finally, one day I picked it up and started reading it. I couldn't put it down. I read all but the last 3 or 4 chapters in one sitting. I'd have finished it that night except I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer.

Silly things are a daily occurance which are usually pointed out to me by my smartypants 6 yr old. My biggest mistake was telling her what a v. yeast infection was and how it felt.....now she goes around hugging me and singing "The Itchy and Scratchy show!" (from The Simpsons...which she's never even seen, but is singing the tune that my hubby taught her) We 've had a good talk about how that stays "at home" and is not to be sung in public

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Phones are tricky, I tell ya. When I can't find what I did with my cell phone (this time) I pick up the house phone and call myself to hear it and find it. When I locate it of course I hang up. I cannot tell you the number of times I then notice not 10 minutes later "1 Missed Call" on the front of the phone and CHECK the number to see whose call I missed! DUH! My kids watch me do this, hear me ask outloud "Huh, whose call did I miss?" watch me check and sit and wait to laugh at me... again!

kickypants, it doens't always pay to be open and honest with kids, does it? They'll use it against you! Maybe one day you can sing it back to her.. but she doesn't think it's funny then.

LOL I haven't done that one. But I practically always will turn on a light switch when the power is off. Once I was at my mothers and her uncle and aunt were coming. We had a power outage, he had health problems, and I wanted the house to be nice and warm for them. So....I lined the back of the fireplace with aluminum foil to reflect the heat. It took me quite a while to do the job, got done and then took us a while to find the fan (to blow the heat out into the room) and then went to plug the fan in when it hit.....DUH....there IS no power. We about laughed ourselves silly. I probably spent 30 minutes on that project. LOL

Too funny Patty!!

Yes Lillie, I'm always picking up the Remote instead of the phone or visa versa--The other day I dialed my neighbor on the remote & couldn't figure out why the call didn't go thru!!! Duh!

Just can't get into everything this old lady does lately as I'd have to write a book_ LOL

One of my BIL's favorite stories. Ex and I were watching TV with the kids with the lights out. Phone rang, it was BIL calling. Ex gets all excited and starts screaming, "Turn on the lights, I can't hear a darn thing!" Phone was right side up, but he couldn't hear because the lights were off!#!????

ooooh so much fodder in my life for these kind of stories and so little space to type them in...You are SO not alone here.

Two recent funnies: I recently (ok, not so recently, 6 months ago or so) got contacts, but I still poke my eye on a daily basis trying to push the glasses up the bridge of my nose...And no matter how many times I press the button, the car door remote will NOT unlock my house front door. I won't mention how many times I try to get out of my car with the seatbelt still on - we'll save that for another day, lol!

Y'all are not alone. I answered the phone when my DS called the other night & said, "Hold on a sec- I've got to put my glasses on so I can hear you better."

... seatbelts are quite restrictive!

Carry (at least one) set of extra reading glasses in the car!

Patti - when our daughter was in labor with our 2nd grandson, she drove to our house and DH took her to the hospital. He had been standing outside talking on our cordless house phone and got so rattled from all the excitement, he stuck that phone in his coat pocket thinking it was his cell phone, so he walked around the hospital all day with our home phone. It was so funny.

If I'd done what you did, not only would I have laughed myself silly, I'd probably wet my pants in the process.

I just remembered a few years back...I bought some lip stuff for chapped lips from Bath and Body. Theirs comes in a container like Chap Stick only larger...

I had it sitting here on our computer desk for when needed...

I reached down and picked it up...(I thought) and put it on.

Hummmm that didn't feel right...So I took a look at what I was using. It was Elmers Stick school glue...."S"
