Spaghetti Squash Running Everywhere!
Comments (8)"Spaghetti Squash Running Everywhere"... Well, CHAIN those suckers down before they run down the street! Put 'em on a leash! Nail their feet to the ... never mind. (I'm very visual) They get pretty heavy, and would need sturdy supports. If it would not be a financial drain, and you have a feed store nearby, you might get a couple of hog fencing panels (see link below for visual). They are usually made from 1/4" diameter rods, welded together. Some are graduated like the drawing, and others are all the same size openings. Just get a package of cable ties (zip ties) and fasten them together to make a very sturdy trellis. Reuseable forever. Don't be afraid to move the vines themselves, to guide them to where you want them to run... just think of them as octopus arms! I grew them some years ago, and they ran across the driveway and up the wall around my mother's bedroom window. She did say it was a bit eerie to see the shadows of the vines moving in the night breezes, lit by the street light. She kept thinking of the 50s movie "The Day of the Triffids". Sue Here is a link that might be useful: Hog panels...See MoreWANTED: squash seeds - Hubbard, acorn, Spaghetti Squash
Comments (4)I went to your blog. I think that I would like to have the seeds of the Kosovo tomato. That would be the type of tomato I like, according to your descriptions. Thank you for rating them. Please let me know the difference between your sweet peppers, if it does not take too much of your time. Your new dog is beautiful. I am also a dog owner with two dogs. Comments (9)I cut them in half and put them cut-side down on a cookie sheet and bake at 375 for around 20 minutes - but it can take a fair bit longer if the squash is big. You'll know when it's done when you're able to easily scrape out the "spaghetti" with a fork. Everything but the rind turns into these lovely strands, there's very little waste. We like to make "spaghetti" casseroles with them with homemade meat sauce and some cheese sprinkled on top! It's a lovely squash, and we plan to plant some next year (we're trying our luck with butternut right now)....See MoreSpaghetti squash cooking
Comments (3)I cut them in half crosswise with a cleaver, put the halves cut side down on a paper plate and cook in the microwave on high. I usually start with five minutes; then take them out and remove the seeds with a spoon. Back in for three to five minutes, depending on size. By then, they're ready to easily pull the cooked strands out with a fork. Occasionally, if it's an especially large one, I have to return the squash to the microwave for a few more minutes to cook the remaining strands. I add the seasonings and/or flavorings after they're cooked....See MoreIslay_Corbel
